Going to a hotel on your own

I’m about to lose the plot at the moment, getting under each other’s feet- has anyone just buggered off to a hotel for room service and wine alone? Nothing dodgy just some me time

I haven’t done it but dream about it all the time. Currently have DSS here and I just feel like glorified babysitter whilst he does what he wants.

mummyofgirls123 · 21/08/2020 14:41

Literally thinking about going to a hotel to be on my own today.. Would be nice just to have 'me time'

Cornishclio · 21/08/2020 14:42

Not done it but cannot see anything wrong with it.

lookatmememe · 21/08/2020 14:45

Yes, thoroughly recommend it.

Windmillwhirl · 21/08/2020 14:47

I'm planning this in a few weeks as my partner has to rock and I want to hit the shops in a big city. Done it quite a few times. Love it. Especially the super comfy bed all to myself and early, long breakfast 😄

katy1213 · 21/08/2020 14:47

Haven't gone specifically to be alone but have definitely gone for business/holidays alone. Why not? I love hotels. Don't think I'd lurk having room service though - I'd want the full menu.

OrangeGinLemonFanta · 21/08/2020 14:49

Yes, last year when I was losing the plot with the kids DH booked me a surprise trip to a nice hotel with a pool. Did me a world of good.

Windmillwhirl · 21/08/2020 14:53

Sorry, has to work not rock Grin

DramaAlpaca · 21/08/2020 14:53

I did it a few years ago. Had a blissful few days by myself, doing what I wanted with nobody hanging off me. It was great and really recharged my batteries.

DH was thoroughly bemused that I wanted to go by myself, but he soon got over it.

Teacher12345 · 21/08/2020 15:16

God I would love this!

Whoopsmahoot · 21/08/2020 15:16

Yup. Couple nights away. Long walks, bit of gym, spa time, and someone else to cook the meals. Long baths in the evening, Netflix, wine and snacks. Wonderful. And yes I do adore my family but sometimes you have to recharge.

BlingLoving · 21/08/2020 15:22

I went with a couple of friends to a mutual friend's 50th. We were staying overnight. I made it clear to all involved that they could share rooms if they wanted but I was having my own room to luxuriate! Grin

Absolutely - I think its perfectly fine. DH is always trying to get me to do this as he knows how hard I find the relentlessness sometimes. But money is tight so I don't. Go ahead and enjoy!!!

sammylady37 · 21/08/2020 15:35

I do it very frequently! And I live alone and don’t have kids, but I still love the treat of a hotel break.

BikeTyson · 21/08/2020 15:38

I used to book on far flung work training courses a couple of times a year specifically to have a night on my own in a hotel, and that was pre-kids! Living the dream.

OstrichFeathers · 21/08/2020 16:48

I've done it in a hotel 3 miles away. It was a Bank Holiday weekend so I went on the Monday lunch and swam, read and had a very civilised afternoon glass of wine in the old school drawing room of the hotel. I came home on Tuesday late morning to a silent house. Then picked up the kids from school at the regular time. It was perfect.

LongPauseNoReply · 21/08/2020 16:55

Yes I do it regularly. There is a huge part of my work that is creative and I sometimes need a chunk of time completely alone if I need to write content or other material.

It's bliss, can't recommend it enough!

pinotgrigio · 21/08/2020 17:04

Yes. It's wonderful.

ASimpleLampoon · 21/08/2020 17:46

Yes. Day after my birthday. Spent birthday with my DH and DC and checked myself into premier inn the following afternoon. 2 days after hotels reopened in my city. Watched about 10 episodes of Judge Rinder read the papers endless teas and biscuits. Got a take away it were bliss. Long bath (ok 3 long baths) slept like a starfish and lie in. Take out breakfast more papers checked out at midday and back home. Best present ever.

DancingLady · 21/08/2020 17:50

Yes, two nights for my birthday. Heaven.

TeddyIsaHe · 21/08/2020 17:53

Yes do it!! I take champagne with me and drink it in the bath. Have a lay-in, room service breakfast in bed etc etc.

Trouble is, the time between needing a hotel break away becomes shorter and shorter so you end up wanting one every weekend Grin

dementedma · 21/08/2020 18:00

I get to do it for work occasionally and it is the best thing ever. When I can I pay for an extra night myself and turn it into a mini break.( I might tell DH work needs me to stay for two nights!). 3 nights in the Outer Hebrides...such a busy trip!( Wasnt sitting in splendid isolation on Luskentyre beach at all, no sir!)

Tilly1313 · 21/08/2020 18:06

So I took all your advice and I’m currently in the bath with a glass of wine and so many Waitrose goodies waiting for me in the most gorgeous beamed thatched pub- instantly feel more human and the best most spontaneous decision I’ve made Wine I think this will become a regular treat!!
