What attracted you to your partner? And is it still there?

Just curious! My attraction to my dp was mostly because I thought he was a sexy bloke and a nice guy. 8 years later I still fancy him, although not in the same quick get your knickers off way and he still is a nice bloke but OMG he doesnt half get on my nerves sometimes...obviously I didnt see those things at first though...how about you?

I was attracted to my dh by his sense of humour and kindness (we were friends first). Both are still there but until we were properly going out I didn't realise the things that would annoy me IYSWIM. I still love him but sometimes wonder if I should have thought a bit harder before marrying him but then the grass is always greener isn't it?!

NomDePlume · 11/10/2004 13:14

Hmm, I was attracted to DH's SOH and personality. I didn't really fancy him all that much when I first met him, but we got on like a house on fire. I was in a LTR with a very good looking guy who really wasn't compatible with me personality-wise (he was pretty but dumb), we had a mortgage together etc and were due to get married.... Then I met my now DH. The more I got to know DH the more I found the sexual attraction grew. It's nice to know that our relationship grew from a genuine interest in each other, rather than just from wanting to jump each others bones ! Although DH said he fancied me rotten from the start .

3+ years on, we are married with a 2yr old DD (+ 2 DSs from his 1st marriage) and things are still good. I love and trust him with every fibre and I know he feels the same about me. I do still fancy him, but like you, in a 'slow boil' sort of a way.

Of course he gets on my tits at times but I'm sure he could say the same about me !

All in all, I'd say we are a very happy and compatible couple.

suzywong · 11/10/2004 13:16

NDP
that is exactly the same as me! apart from the mortgage. Exactly the same.

I have been furious with DH for most of the day and I was about to go in to his office (home office) and have a go at him but his smile made me soften and then laugh.

OMG how slushy is that

suzywong · 11/10/2004 13:18

the getting on the nerves, jeez, they don't half get on your nerves do they. Sometimes the sound of DH breathing gets on my nerves

Thomcat · 11/10/2004 13:19

his cockiness, his confidence, his SOH, his looks, the fact he knew everyone and everyone knew him, his cheek, his charm. Yes it's all still there and I still love all those things about him, and more.

NomDePlume · 11/10/2004 13:23

[gagging emoticon]

I know what you mean about the breathing thing. Dh has a cold at the mo and has spent the last 3/4 days snorting rather than blowing his nose. Gross. Still, he's away for 4 days on business and I miss him already. He only left this morning

JoolsToo · 11/10/2004 13:25

definitely his sense of humour - and yes its still there! also he had/has good legs better than mine actually - well anybody's would be!

Pagan · 11/10/2004 13:30

His glasses and he has since had laser eye surgery!!!

Still love him to bits though

northstar · 11/10/2004 14:19

His car!!!!

And no, it's not still there

welshmum · 11/10/2004 14:24

I think the moment things crystallised for me was when we were in the bedroom in my flat and a radiator fell off the wall. DH just fixed it - no fuss, no bother. God that was sexy!
He's still very good at that sort of thing, gorgeous and an incredibly loving man and a fab dad.
What more could I ask for
(sorry am quite annoying on the subject of DH)

MrsDoolittle · 11/10/2004 14:25

Our is one of those "Our eyes met across a smokey room..." kind of stories. He is the intellectual, literary, high brow type oozing confidence. I thought he was soo out of my league, his interest made me weak-kneed. he tells me he jsut saw my sexy-eyes. I'm surprised he saw that much really, he was soo plastered.
We fell head over heels. He left Australia to be with me.
Five years later, the downside is, he always has his eyes in a newspaper or a book EVEN WHEN I AM TALKING TO HIM!!!! Last night he was convinced he was coming down with something because he was feverish, apparently, and was distraught that I had no sympathy (he didn't look sick). Well he got out this morning crowing that he had obviously got a bug but had successfully fought it off!! yeah right....

nomdplume - why do men do that snorting thing ? my dh does it every morning it drives me mad. However, what i loved about him initially was his ambition, sense of humour, the fact that he was different to all theo ther blokes i'd know previously. still love him but not with quite the same intensity iykwim.

suzywong · 11/10/2004 14:51

it took me 11 years to train DH not to take a snort directly before I put the first forkful of dinner in my mouth.
Disg-ustin

nailpolish · 11/10/2004 14:54

my DH asked me to hold his pint "while i go for a dump"! It was love after that...couldnt resist! We were friends for a couple of years before we got it together. He is lovlier now than he has ever been. Dont want to make you all puke by continuing but yes it is still the same 12 years on.
