This is about a friend but I was unsure where to put it.
It was my friends birthday on Friday.
Normally we go out to celebrate but obviously we can't this year.
I ordered her some flowers and a card to be delivered on Friday.
The thing is she hasn't left the house in 3 weeks as she is so worried about catching the virus.
She rang me upset thinking I had brought the virus into her house on the bouquet of flowers.
She hasn't spoke to me since except when I said I was sorry and she replied
Fair enough
I honestly didn't even think about the virus being on the box,I just wanted to cheer her up.
Do you think eventually she will realise this?

That’s a very ott reaction. Sounds like she has a lot of anxiety around health.

sunop · 12/04/2020 10:16

She does.
She has two young kids too
I should have known better really.

You didn't do anything stupid you did something nice. Just leave her for now. she'll probably come round.

Aussiebean · 12/04/2020 10:19

If deliveries were considered a viable risk of passing on the virus, the government would have stopped them.

Cambionome · 12/04/2020 10:19

I don't think it's you, I think it's her.

You've apologised - I would leave it now. Hopefully she will calm down and realise that you were trying to do a nice thing.

MsJaneAusten · 12/04/2020 10:19

You did a nice thing. You did not send the virus to her house.

She’ll come round.

Casino218 · 12/04/2020 10:20

She didn't have to accept them. Tell her to get a grip!

Dandarabilla · 12/04/2020 10:21

Your friend is a drama queen.

MaeveDidIt · 12/04/2020 10:27

Poor you that was a lovely thing to do but probably with hindsight not a wise thing to do 💐
Your friend might suffer from anxiety but she also suffers from a lack of tact.
With all deliveries and that includes post - after opening it, she should be washing her hands as a matter of course anyway.

JKScot4 · 12/04/2020 10:32

How is she getting food?
I think that was really kind of you.

izzywizzygood · 12/04/2020 10:46

She's really ungrateful. She'd also be feeling annoyed if you didn't send her a card/flowers and complaining everyone forgot her birthday. I think it was extremely kind of you to send her flowers. She should be grateful to have a friend who would go to that effort. She's being very silly with the way she thinks about things.

BackseatCookers · 12/04/2020 10:55

She's been really nasty to you OP and it makes me sad you've accepted her claim you've done a 'horrible' thing.

If it made her super anxious she could have said she didn't accept the delivery because she's worried about CV and to please not send her anything else.

She's been a complete dick and I am baffled as to how she thinks the way she's gone about this is ok.

I'd have expected her to respond again saying sorry I overreacted but I was just really worried.

She's been a shit friend and you've been a lovely one. Thanks

Barton10 · 12/04/2020 11:26

She is ridiculous I sent my Mum flowers on Mother’s Day as I couldn’t see her. It’s a very thoughtful thing to do. If it posed a risk then deliveries would be banned.

ChristmasFluff · 12/04/2020 12:02

You are the one who deserves an apology when she calms down. If it isn't forthcoming, you have lost nothing. It's horrible, the way she was so quick to accuse you.

I hope you find some new, real friends when this is all over.

SandAndSea · 12/04/2020 12:09

Is she not accepting any post? What about food?

You did a lovely thing. It's not you, it's her.

scryingeyes · 12/04/2020 12:17

Wow! Ungrateful. She's no friend OP. Most of us are anxious, but that doesn't give us an excuse to be obnoxious.

Please feel free to send me flowers/ chocolates/ wine and I will be so gracious and grateful you will want to send be gifts weekly .

Theresomethingaboutdairy · 12/04/2020 12:18

Yes, I was going to ask what she was doing for food? You did nothing wrong OP.

Spied · 12/04/2020 12:25

I live with health anxiety and would probably have a private wobble about the possibility of the delivery person having covid and touching my flowers/the box etc ( probably irrational I know) BUT I would be so happy my friend had done this for me and I'd say nothing about it and thank them lots for the kind gesture.
She sounds like she's either really struggling mentally and spiralling or she's really rude.
You'll know her best.

soannya · 12/04/2020 12:42

She doesn’t sound like a very good friend! I’d love for somebody to send me flowers! You sound really considerate and she’s a fool. She must be receiving deliveries for food! Don’t message her again. Let her come to you when she’s run out of friends.

Redwinestillfine · 12/04/2020 12:44

She sounds like hard work

jessycake · 12/04/2020 12:55

What on earth does she do about food then ?

ceejay54321 · 12/04/2020 12:55

My neighbour left a container full of yummy Easter rolls in our doorstep. We’re having a debate over whether to eat them - but it was an incredibly sweet thought from my neighbour, and I’ve said a big ‘thank you’. I think your friend has over reacted. If she gets post, shopping etc - she can manage your delivery in the same way. You are not at fault here.

sunop · 12/04/2020 13:04

Well that's the thing she got a ASDA delivery last week (god knows how as the slots are like gold dust )
So not sure how that is much different.
I have a feeling the flowers will be in the bin now which is a shame.
I've still been ordering from Amazon so was probably a bit naive of me to assume everyone was

SandyY2K · 12/04/2020 13:08

I couldn't be dealing we with such friends. My tolerance for this kind of behaviour is not great.

Unless she has a known allergy to flowers, you didn't do anything wrong.

topcat2014 · 12/04/2020 13:09

Some people don't deserve friends
