What do you call "him" if you dont like the word "Boyfriend"?

At almost 50 it seems faintly ridiculous to refer to him (of six months) as my boyfriend, but partner isnt right either.

Other half sounds daft when I say it so thats out!

Companion?

AutumnCrow · 10/11/2019 23:24

I don't know either. I've been with my OH for nearly 7 years and we don't live together.

We're both middle-aged farts.

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/11/2019 23:25

I quite like that in an elderly Victorian lady kind of way :o

Perhaps I should call him my toy boy as he is younger than me, he does refer to me as his Cougar when we are with friends despite the fact that its only a couple of years difference!

Him indoors

PumpkinP · 10/11/2019 23:26

I would say partner as I really can’t bare to use the term boyfriend, I don’t care if people on here don’t like it!

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/11/2019 23:28

@AutumnCrow you see I would say partner after that amount of time. I think I probably would after 3 years or so because not living together doesnt mean you are any less committed to each other or the relationship, its just your choice not to cohabit. I have no intention of living with anyone until at least the youngest has left home, and as she is 8 there is not much chance of that any time soon :o

I remember a few years ago it being suggested on MN that I go for either Squeeze or Gentleman Caller, if you like old fashioned monikers!

PyongyangKipperbang · 11/11/2019 00:07

Urgh @ Squeeze! That is more cringeworthy than Delboy's Significant Other :o

Gentleman caller I quite like though :o

My called my husband my lodger for years. He hated it Grin

PyongyangKipperbang · 11/11/2019 00:08

I think I might have to go with partner even though it has been less than a year.

Singlenotsingle · 11/11/2019 00:09

Gentleman caller? That sounds like he's a customer knocking on your door. Hope you haven't got a red light outside?

PyongyangKipperbang · 11/11/2019 00:10

Thats a very good point! Maybe not Gentleman Caller then, I dont want people thinking he's a punter!

If we were living, or even planning on living, together it would be easier!

AutumnCrow · 11/11/2019 00:15

I call him my 'close friend' during introductions. He just says, 'This is AutumnCrow'. Maybe we're hopeless.

MummaofFurGirls · 11/11/2019 00:19

I call my husband "Lover" :-)

StillDumDeDumming · 11/11/2019 00:20

He’s my fella

7Days · 11/11/2019 00:28

A few years older than me (I'm 40) people call their partners Himself or Herself, this is when they are not present.
I used to hate it, now I'm warming to it. No need to mention marital status, or get coy and tinkley.
I found myself saying it last week, Ok Himself will call in later to sign the form. Nobody keeled over. It rolled off the tongue.

Though when you are introducing people to your new fella, This is Tom is ok I think. Let great aunt Julia work it out herself

nex18 · 11/11/2019 07:15

What would you like him to call you? I go with boyfriend as I hope that I am his girlfriend. Definitely no to partner or other half and I can’t be doing with any tweeness. Possibly “manfriend” is more accurate as we’re both in our 40’s.

HerBigChance · 11/11/2019 07:22

I'm nearly 50 and I quite like the term 'boyfriend'. There's a vague whiff of scandal to it that I like at this age.

Soconfusedandlost · 11/11/2019 07:51

I used to call my ex "that tall fella" and he called me "that girl there". Saved awkward titles

Mummyofbananas · 11/11/2019 14:55

I call mine partner but only because we have children and j don't like saying fiance. Otherwise I'd probably say boyfriend.

I like gentleman caller 😂😂

LucileDuplessis · 11/11/2019 14:57

I'd say boyfriend. Being nearly 50 doesn't mean you can't have a boyfriend IMO!

StealthNinjaMum · 11/11/2019 15:00

I'm nearly 50 and I have a boyfriend. It makes me feel young.

momoney1 · 11/11/2019 15:20

'David'.

Let people draw there own conclusions.

6utter6ean · 11/11/2019 15:23

I'm nearly 50 and I have a 'boyfriend' who is 64
