2 key cards for hotel room - normal?

My husband stays in London a lot for work and stays around the city. I found a key card holder and it has 2 keys. I also found another one with 2 keys and someone else’s name written in pen on the front. Can someone tell me if this is normal practice to give 2keys and can there be any explanation for someone else’s name on the front?

I'm sure they only give 1, the idea being that if you leave the room you take the only key out of the slot, therefore not wasting an absolute fortune for the hotel!!

Like a PP I used to be a hotel receptionist and we’d pre-pack the keys using two sometimes, regardless on however many were staying

Hotel receptionists don't put first names on key wallets. Tbh all that needs to go on is the room number. Anything else is just giving out far too much info in case it gets left lying round.

Alex has written her name on a spare key wallet and given it to your dh. She is likely another guest.

Look just call the hotel and say I was staying in the room on the night and did I leave my glasses or something.

I would make a wild assumption here and say that he has kept the keycards of two women's rooms that he has went to. One called Alex and one called Tina. I have been given 2 key cards whenever I have checked in to a hotel so it's possible that once he has been to these womens rooms, he takes one of their keycards with their name on it (reception often write your name and room number on the card slip that the key goes into). It doesn't make sense any other way because who takes the keycards home? You usually leave them in the room or hand them back at the desk when you leave! If they were keycards for his room or a room he booked and took someone to, they would have his name on it! So to me, he is a weird guy that goes to womens rooms when he's at hotels and takes one of their key cards as some sort of momento or something!

Pretty much always handed two cards in a cardboard wallet when checking in, even if dh or Dd are further away and not visible at check in.

And yes, lots of hotels all over the world use the key to activate the electricity in the room. Normally via a card a lot on the wall near the door.

luckygreeneyes · 07/09/2019 10:18

I stay in ALOT of hotels. I’d say 80% give 2 keys as standard. About 50% write room number and my surname on the wallet. The other 50% just room number.

You don't need proof if you aren't happy.

AliciaQuays · 07/09/2019 10:43

PM me his twitter name! I always take a look at what men favourite. That’s revealing

Jazzybeats · 07/09/2019 13:40

I’ve had 2 keys a number of tones staying alone. The name thing is weird. I’ve never had a name written on my keycard.

MouthyHarpy · 07/09/2019 14:36

If I had proof of something it would help me decide to make a change.

Or ....

Think about another 10 years of his current behaviour day in and day out. You only get one life, OP.

He’s being pretty clear how he wants to live his life; is this how you want to live?

Ringdonna · 07/09/2019 14:44

I always get two so I can keep air con going especially abroad ( am currently in India and it is so humid.

justasking111 · 07/09/2019 14:52

The OP has a suspicion because of two key cards. That is bordering on the ridiculous if she has no other reason to think her OH is playing away, reading the many posts on here. I have had two cards as have lots of people, my OH does not suspect me nor I him.

ittakes2 · 07/09/2019 18:05

Does his first name start with A? If yes, is there a chance he is checking into the room using a false first name? I just ask because credit cards tend to only use the initial of the first name. It’s odd to use only a first name on the folder.

ittakes2 · 07/09/2019 18:08

Its odd the name Alex is written on an angle but the room number is not. As if they were written at different times from different positions.
