How common is it for English men to bad mouth English women and put foreign women on a pedestal and how do you feel about that ?

I've noticed many English men doing that on the Internet. I was wondering if it truly reflects what many English men think or it's just online jokes.

I am well travelled and I don't believe English women come across as worse looking than Irish, continental European, American, Middle Eastern, Arab, Black, Hispanic or Asian (South and East) women.

So do English women notice these comments and how do they react ?

BogglesGoggles

English women were considered very attractive in the 60s/70s. (White) Australians who are mostly of British stock are thought as hot.

The "English are ugly" thing is pretty new.

I've heard/read stuff along these lines, but not just from British men. You get it in the States as well.
On the one hand, there are the people who are attracted to specifics of physical appearance, and this isn't inherently awful (being attracted to certain facial features or skin tones isn't objectively more immoral than being attracted to eg broad shoulders, or long legs, or bigger people or whatever) as long as they treat everyone around them with courtesy and don't use their preferences as a way to denigrate people who don't fit into that category.
And then you have the misogynistic men who combine a racialised fetish with an outspoken preference for what they call 'feminine' women, by which they mean passive, obedient, quiet... and usually vulnerable enough to agree to have sex with unattractive older men for economic reasons.

swissmilk · 11/06/2019 12:44

I think it's because British/English women aren't a push-over and men view foreign (poor) women as having lower standards (although a quick look on the relationship by and would tell you all you need to know about how low some British women's standards are)
Btw I am a mixed race British woman, 'exotic looking', first chat-up line (as in only men ever asked me this in a first conversation with me) was...where are you from?....I have a PR English accent....so yes a few balloons were deflated. No one gives a shit now I'm old and grey Grin

I used to know of a guy like this. One day he exclaimed that all British women were, "loud mouths....covered in tattoos...swore too much....drink too much". He seemed to be quite obsessed with finding a woman from eastern Europe to date but did occasionally date British women. Funnily enough none of them ever lasted more than a date. The truth of it was that he was a mindless misogynist bigot who just wanted someone to wait on him hand and foot and listen to his endless racist rants. I think he wanted someone who he knew would be financially dependent upon him so he could control them. Vile cretin.

I'm an English man who married a Polish woman, in 1996, long before Poland joined the EU.

Not because I thought that English women were awful, but because I fell in love with a woman who happens to be Polish.

I do know of some men who prefer Foreign women, though. There are American websites dedicated to this, as what they want is a 'traditional' wife who will cook and keep house for them. They think Polish women will do that. I showed a couple of these sites to DW once and she almost killed herself laughing.

In the early days, before so many Poles came to the EU, I did get the odd comment of 'you must have got her from an online brides site' or 'English women not good enough for you, then, mate?', the latter said in quite a hostile tone.

I had an acquaintance years ago who felt this way about Irish women, completely fetished 'submissive' Asian women but hated Asian culture and despised his friend's Chinese wife. The relationships he had swung from an Indonesian teenager he had an online relationship with to a newly arrived Brazilian to an Irish single mother and last I heard of him he was married to an African woman.

In reality, he targeted vulnerable women like a heat-seeking missile and that's why he targeted me. We were never in a relationship but he liked to pretend we were when we were out together. I was ten years younger than him and looked like I was in my early teens. All his relationships ended as soon as he couldn't hide how awful he was.

I rarely saw Welsh women being labelled as ugly though

This made me laugh, we all look pretty much the same in UK, but then the Welsh women I know would beat the shit out of men calling them ugly. They aren't known for keeping their mouths shut and behaving, maybe those men online avoid Wales altogether.
I think they are probably insecure and looking for a more subservient vulnerable woman. Sadly they will find most women grow in confidence, and I doubt those vulnerable foreign women would put up with such men for long.

AngelsSins · 11/06/2019 16:56

It’s misogynists who make comments like this, often racist to boot, so they’re best ignored.

AryaStarkWolf · 11/06/2019 17:07

So basically the OP is Polish and wants to tell all you English ladies that she's better looking than you all and your men thinks so too? Hmm

Self praise is no praise OP

Throwaway20199 · 11/06/2019 17:31

AryaStarkWolf

No, I am Western European.

I think it's unfair to claim that Polish women or other non-English women are more attractive than English women but I've seen English men saying that.

Well the British are the most overweight in Europe. Also as someone that has travelled around quite a bit there is certainly a difference in behaviour 'generally' (just go to your town centre at 2am to see your city's finest).
I find it can be harder to find good quality people. But maybe I'm biased I am in a relationship with a polish woman so what do I know.

Agree with your whole post

I remember seeing a tweet something along the lines of ‘guys from the UK who say latinas are their type... have you even met a Latina?’

Springfern · 11/06/2019 21:30

I agree with the PP too. I think it's a case of men projecting racist and xenophobic stereotypes. It's incredibly dehumanizing

ArfursSixpences · 11/06/2019 21:32

"have you even met a Latina"

Latina? Someone from France or Italy?

likeamillpond · 11/06/2019 21:35

Most men who turn down women of their own nation / race / culture tend to do it because the women they fancy of their nation / race / culture wouldn’t touch them with a barge-pole.

This is very true.

Far easier to go for a vulnerable, often much younger woman from a different culture.
Even better if she's from a violent country and on the poverty line.
They can be the knight in shining armour. It does their balding, middle aged egos no end of good to be the rescuer of some 'subservient' female.

They know that no English woman would put up with their shit.

Saddos all of them.

lhw92 · 11/06/2019 21:36

Arfurs - Latina referring to South American girls who you may more likely encounter if you lived in the US, but for e.g. Mexicans make up a small % of the UK

ArfursSixpences · 11/06/2019 21:39

@ihw92 - aha got it.

I thought it included women from Latin countries, eg Italy, France, Portugal, Spain and their American colonies, such as French Canada as well as Mexico etc. Must be an American thang.
