My partners family dog got in a fight with my dog and bit her on the head.
I can't sleep worrying its going to get infected as it's deep and open.

I want to get it looked at but people think I'm over reacting and tea tree oil been put on it and that's all that's needed apparently but I really need some advice.

Glad she's being seen Smile

WatcherOfTheNight · 01/04/2019 08:57

Glad she's ok & being seen today @Maybeitsjustmeor .

I just want to add that there are a few things you can keep in stock for emergencies like this ,they come in helpful for many other things too .

Hibiscrub (as a Pp mentioned) is great for a variety of thing BUT be very ,very careful on the head area ,it must not go in the ears ,eyes or mouth.
Leucillin ,it's antiseptic & is a wonderful product that can be used to clean & protect wounds ,it's the same Ph as the dogs skin etc so is safe if they lick it & won't harm eyes etc .

Hope everything goes ok at the vets .

Eatmycheese · 01/04/2019 12:24

How is your poor dog today? 💐

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/04/2019 12:31

Really glad you've sought advice and hopefully she's been seen and is ok.

If you call an emergency vet they won’t ask for payment up front, they will treat the dog and then look at repayment

Last time I called an emergency vet, they told me how much the consultation would be even before they gave me an appt so while that might be the case at your vet's it certainly isn't at all of them.

Smotheroffive · 01/04/2019 15:47

We use this for our dogs when they have an had a fight Hmm Confused. sosayi We have always had multiple ddogs, have never felt the need to keep stocks in for ' when ' they fight! Never had a ddog ripped open by a fight either, guess I've never had fighting ddogs, or been unlucky enough to get seriously attacked by one.
Find it strange that you'd be prepared for that.

Yes, fluids to rinse etc...now dcats and fighting/wounds another matter altogether!
Grin

I am sorry you had received such vile PMs, always suspect when someone sneaks behind PMs to attack rather than be open and honest for all to see. Angry

I think it would have really helped if you had said that though, that you were talking to a vet and sent pics and had advice.

It was unsettling not knowing that such a bad and still dripping large deep wound was being properly checked.

I think there is a level of responsibility to your contributers to not cause unnecessary distress, and whilst I disagree with nastiness and abuse, it can be very upsetting some of the stuff posted and then ignored, so some will read and get very distressed by it. All you had to do was post that upupdate, so I am.confused why you wouldn't do that when everyone was asking and worried for your ddog.

thequeenoftarts · 01/04/2019 22:38

How is your wee dog now? Vets usually demand payment up front, I work in one so I know lol, however never under estimate building up a relationship with your local vet, in an emergency it can be more valuable than diamonds

princessTiasmum · 01/04/2019 23:54

For gods sake take the poor dog to the vet,he will also be in shock, cant believe anyone would not get the poor thing seen, its neglect not to, and if i lived near you and saw this and dog not treated i would report you to the rspca in a heartbeat
Cannot believe some people, and if your dp thinks it doesnt need treating rehome it,to a better home

QueenBeex · 02/04/2019 00:25

I understand how awful it must of been to witness that. If there's a chance the dog will be around other dogs from now on I'd put a muzzle on it, even if it was a one off it won't do any harm to wear a muzzle around other animals. Definitely go to the vet! I've taken my boy to the vet over things a lot less serious than that! In fact I was at the vet Friday because I was worried about my dog, nothing wrong with him though I was just being safe rather than sorry. If my partner told me not to go I would tell her to keep her opinion to herself. My pets health and well being comes before someone else's opinion. Fortunately my girlfriend came with me to the vet and cares about my boy just as much as I do.

Eatmycheese · 03/04/2019 08:52

My guess is the dog hasn’t been seen and there will never be an update, as the OP has vanished.

That poor dog.

princessTiasmum · 03/04/2019 09:26

If the dog hasnt been seen then its neglect, poor dog must be in pain, and bite could be infected

Al2O3 · 03/04/2019 09:41
  1. Vet
  2. Own finances
  3. Learn to drive

In a particular order.

Smotheroffive - what’s with the stupid faces

Dogs do get into fights . They are dogs and that’s what they sometimes
Especially if you have bigger breed types of dog which is what we have always had . All of our dog are pretty much over 10 stone
And yes we have always had multiple dogs probably more than most dog owners and we are very lucky that we can easily afford to keep multiple large breed dogs.
Sometimes it’s just mouthing more noise than anything else and sometimes it can be like the OPs incident completely unexpected but Dogs are animals and animal are unpredictable sometimes
And like you wrote you have never had fighting dogs so I wouldn’t expect you to understand that if you do have dogs that were originally bred to fight or guard then you will expect to get the odd fight and scuffle from them over the years .
And the bite from a 11 or 12 stone dog is going to be much words than the bite of a french Bulldog (although in my experience all dogs can fight and bite when they want to )

So as a responsible owner I think it’s always good to have certain items in my house just in case we need them in the same way that we have a first aid kit in the kitchen and the car just in case we cut or hurt ourselves
Over many years we have had many dogs often ones that people didn’t want any more and rescue dogs and these often come with problems like agression in particular to other dogs as they hadn’t been socialised or trained properly when younger
We are lucky that we have a very big house and a huge garden that has several separate areas and we have several huge kennels and runs for our all of our dogs .
But on occasion silly things can happen dogs that have been fine with each other for years and can just turn on each other , they can get territorial over toys and food whereas previously they have been fine .

One of our dogs is a Caucasian Shepherd Dog and has to live inside the house with us . If she lived outside I would be going through a bottle of hibiscrub a week as she is extremely dog aggressive and will stalk the other dogs through the fencing if she is in the garden . I know if she was given the chance she would do her best to get through the fencing to attack the other dogs just because she can .
She’s an evil bitch towards any dog and is over 11 stone of pure power and she hates dogs - all dogs, she isn’t fussy about it 😂and when we take her out she has to wear a muzzle .
Yet she is amazing with people and children and a real big softy inside the house .
One of dogs had a tumour which we didn’t know about and he gnawed his way through the fencing separating him from our other dog and attacked him
Totally out of character for our dog but the VET said the Tumor was probably driving him mad and that’s why he did it

So Stuff like hibiscrub is worth having in the house without having to rush out to get it and a big bottle is only a tenner and will last for ages

And it’s not just for in case they get into a fight either
One of our dogs cut his leg when out being walked he managed to catch it on some barbed wire that was hidden the undergrowth of the path that we walk
we cleaned it up and used the hibiscrub on it to prevent any infection before taking him to the vets the next day & the Vet told us we did exactly the right thing and wished that more owners would do the same thing
So less of the stupid faces please

Smotheroffive · 03/04/2019 18:15

They were not stupid faces, more like stupid interpretation!

This Hmm means, hmmm...not sure about that, and this Confused means confused, because of the preparedness for fighting ddogs. It's put of the usual and no need to get arsey or rude about.

You have now explained that you have quite an unnuasal set up, and a lot of incidents to us, who in comparison despite many ddogs have had none. Many a very deep and nasty dcat wound which have managed perfectly well, despite dcat being ripped wide open, ous filled, etc.,that's more usual for us! All managed and healed fine beyond the help of the vet, because the vet couldn't manage the animal, so have to go it alone, and happy to say all 'mischief managed' Smile

We don't have fighting aggressive ddogs, you do, different situations, and unusual, yours, I mean hence 'unusual' response

Smotheroffive · 03/04/2019 18:17

We do, however, have v nasty aggy dcats Grin

Smotheroffive · 03/04/2019 18:18

Oh, and never flushed with that branded scrub either, or any scrub.

Had to continually rinse many a 'cavity' over the years, to keep clear of infection too.

thequeenoftarts · 03/04/2019 18:49

Yep Sosayi, hibbiscrub/chlorahexadine is exactly what we use in a vets to clean the wound, prior to either stitching or surgery. It is used for cats and dogs and always handy to have some close to hand when you own pets.We also use it as a hand/arm scrub for vets/nurses prepping for surgery.
If you have a farm shop/co op anywhere near you, you can get it even cheaper.
However as you know, it doesn't take the place of veterinary treatment/advice, it just keeps the wound clean until you can get to the vet, sooner rather than later.

In my opinion and this is not aimed at anyone in particular, but the longer a human takes to seek veterinary advice for their pet, the more expensive it becomes, as once infection sets it, more medication and visits are usually required to deal with the wound.

AuntMarch · 03/04/2019 19:15

Family said there was no need for vet as that would mean their out of control dog caused an injury that was deemed to be more than a nip.
Selfish reasons and not because you were wrong OP. I hope you went.

lablablab · 03/04/2019 19:59

How's your dog OP?

Sosayi · 03/04/2019 21:46

thequeenoftarts

it was the vet who reccomend we keep a supply of hibiscrub as she knows our dogs very well and sometime a minor wound if you catch it quick enough and flush it with hibbiscrub and keep it clean can save you a two hundred pound plus vet bill
Because when the vets give a dog antibiotics it done on the dogs weight so because all of our dogs are over 11stone in weight a course of antibiotics is £££ 😂

Smotheroffive Apologies I didn’t actually realise what the emojis are they just seemed arsey to me😜
I know that our set up is unusual and the fact that all of our dogs are fighting / guard dogs means that we do get more potential fights and skuffles from them but we wouldn’t be without them all of of them
are rescues apart from one that we bought
People buy these cute fluffy puppies not realising that in a year or so they will have a 10stone plus dog that if it’s not trained and socialised properly they have a potential nasty situation on their hands .
Our Caucasian Ovcharka dogs previous owner had never taken her out for a walk she was kept in the house and garden and when she started destroying everything they sold her and we bought her at 14 months
When we got her it was like she was going on a boot camp poor thing 😂 but because those owners never socialised her as a puppy it was like having a 11stonne puppy that your trying to train.

Smotheroffive · 04/04/2019 02:20

No, I'm sure you wouldn't [...be without...].

You clearly have your hands full, and glad all 'mischief managed' Wink

Smotheroffive · 04/04/2019 02:22

Am sick to the back teeth of puppy buying idiocy, not to mention ignorance plus dashings of arrogance into the mix, makes for very many unhealthy, unhappy, thrown away ddogs.

Breaks my heart. I couldn't do what you do!

SpareASquare · 04/04/2019 02:35

An told me to stop trying to get sympathy and making out I didn't care about her I did everything I could.

No. You didn't. You posted pictures on line and asked 'opinions' whilst your dog was in pain rather than get the dog seen to straight away.

Appalling.

Smotheroffive · 04/04/2019 02:39

You also failed to put contributors to your thread out of their misery, because you say that you called the vet in the night, but you certainly didn't tell anyone that til 7 in the morning.

Smotheroffive · 04/04/2019 02:40

So you either didn't call the vet whilst you were posting on your thread to us, or you didn't think it worthy of telling

Alicewond · 04/04/2019 02:40

I do hope the dog is ok
