Would you date someone who has been in prison?

Just that really..
Been speaking to someone via OLD. He has been honest about a 6 month sentence he served in his late teens for a drunken brawl. Since coming out he has become a dad and has a settled life and job.
A large part of me says to call it a day & look elsewhere. Another part of me thinks he made a mistake and paid the price.
Thoughts?

I have and it nearly ruined my life.

Yes and I have done. People make all kids of mistakes as teenagers. Are you the same person now you were when you were 18?

Loopytiles · 27/01/2019 13:01

I would definitely not meet him.

Mrskeats · 27/01/2019 13:09

It takes a pretty big mistake to end up in prison these days. Especially for a first offence.

BitOutOfPractice · 27/01/2019 13:29

Are you the same person now you were when you were 18?

In some ways no. But in the basic fundamentals of my beliefs eg right and wrong, non-violent, family values, work ethic etc etc, yes I am

ILoveMaxiBondi · 27/01/2019 13:55

Some people are a worse version of what they were at 18.

ChocOrCheese · 27/01/2019 14:07

If it was an offence committed as a teen and he was at least ten years older then maybe. But it would very much depend on the nature of the crime. I dated someone who had been inside for endless driving offences, but it didn't go well. I would be very wary of someone who had been put away for violence.

NewSlippers · 27/01/2019 14:54

No.

Adversecamber22 · 27/01/2019 15:27

SIL dated a guy who was in prison for a few years as he had put someone in a wheelchair for life after a violent attack.

He hit her one Christmas, I told her to stop seeing him but she carried on. They did break up eventually.

Now 15 years later they are back together, he is apparently reformed what is interesting is she has just inherited a house from her Father.

No, since he really hasn't been honest about it. He would have told you what the exact charges were instead of minimising it with a naughty lad story.
