Who's got a toy boy?

What is the age difference?
Are you both compatible?
Does he feel like a child that you did not birth? 🙄
I'm 8 years older that my dh, we seem to be compatible in some ways.
And yes he sometimes feels like I've gained another child but I wouldn't swap him for the world because he's a good egg. 😁
I've had comments from people in the past saying it won't last and asking what he could possibly see in an older woman

Has anyone had this before?

An 8 years age difference is really not a toy boy (awful word)

TooManyPuppies · 13/01/2019 20:29

Pretty much my group of close friends are 5-10 years older than their husbands. Seems to be more "accepted" these days where I am and not such a big deal, and they seem to be lasting they've all been together for 10 years or more and gone on to have kids.

There's only one friend I can tell won't last, they haven't been tohtyher) together all that long and he is very young still, acts very immaturely and is the complete opposite to my friend. But as she was getting on in age (40 this year) she just settled because she wanted a family. They have just had a baby together but he won't be around long term.

It's not for me though, during the early years the age gap was VERY noticeable and I would lose patience with some of the childish behaviour I've seen from them but the older they got and longer they've been around it's not noticeable anymore. So relationships of this nature definitely can last but I find can be obvious to see the ones that won't. That's just my experience though it would work out or not differently for others.

TooManyPuppies · 13/01/2019 20:31

really not a toy boy

Agree I thought it was more like 20 something vs 40 something or larger gap.

(awful word)

Also agree.

twominfromthebeach · 13/01/2019 21:09

How old are you OP?

8 years really isn't a big deal, unless maybe you're 24 and he's 16.

You saying it sometimes feels like you've 'gained another child' is a bit worrying though.

NameChangeNugget · 13/01/2019 21:22

Know of 3 couples who had age gaps between 6-10 years. All worked well for years until they hit menopause. Two of the 3 split up & the other are still together

MeOldBamboo · 13/01/2019 21:22

Yep! A whole 13 months Grin

Sprinkles212 · 13/01/2019 21:25

My OH is 10 years older than me, he is NOT my sugar daddy and if I was 10 years older than him, I would not class him as my toyboy.

Could this be a stealth boast about something not particularly boast worthy......?

Singlenotsingle · 13/01/2019 21:27

I'm 3 years older than DH, but he looks older than me! Wink

SuperSuperSuper · 13/01/2019 21:30

8 years isn't really much of a gap. I thought you meant a decade or more.

I know a woman of 46 whose husband is 32. It works well - he was the keener to settle down, actually.

My friend's dad (divorced) remarried a 70yo woman when he was 60. Ten years on, all seems fine.

It can be problematic when the man wants children but the woman is 45+. Not always though.

uhtredsonofuhtred · 13/01/2019 21:33

😂 definitely not a boasting post, just curious

pissedonatrain · 13/01/2019 21:33

uhtredsonofuhtred · 13/01/2019 21:34

10 yr difference 11 years together 2 kids not a manchild at all very mature. Weird sometimes for musoc and films and stuff as we dont have the same nostalgia for stuff we grew up with but thats it everything else is great. Sometimes wonder how we will work retirement but thats a way of 40 and 30 currently.

uhtredsonofuhtred · 13/01/2019 21:52

@tootiredtospeak that's the same with us actually.

Do you ever worry that you look older than him or do you look young and he looks older so it balances out?

I am 47, dh is 38. Def not a man child. Never notice the gap tbh. Oldest dc is 29!!

thebabessavedme · 13/01/2019 22:01

ugh! i fucking hate that expression! im 10 years older than dh - he is no 'boy'! he has bought up my (our, thats how he refers to her) dd since she was 2 and he was 23, he has worked, provided, been a 'proper' father - he is now the BEST dgf that a child could have, my dd loves him to death! my d son in law loves and respects him!

as for me, i go by Joan Collins when asked about the age gap with her and percy - 'if he dies, he dies!'

tootiredtospeak · 13/01/2019 22:03

Yeah sometimes I have noticed a difference in myself as ive hit 40 but he isnt baby faced I wouldve struggled with that. I would say people would guess I am late thirties he is mid thirties so he comes off worst. If I am lacking in confidence I will think about it rest of the time I dont bother. I reckon I will look better at 50 than he does at 40. We love each other we are a team and a family we cant wait to see our children grow up and become grandparents together. Hopefully neither if us will fuck it up. Age I dont think would play a factor.

SadVillageGirl · 13/01/2019 22:23

I'm 52, he's 42. He's definitely an immature man child.

Jsku · 13/01/2019 22:35

@Aprilshowerswontbelong

Your H is 38 and eldest child is 29?
How is that possible 😂😂😂

Just curious

wishywashy6 · 13/01/2019 22:41

I'm 36 and my BF is 26
Never felt like a third child, but we've only been together a few months so I guess time will tell!

thecatneuterer · 14/01/2019 00:08

Awful expression. I always win these threads - 34 year gap.

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 14/01/2019 00:15

15 years younger than me :) I feel like a career advisor, but he gets more gorgeous each time I see him.

thecatneuterer · 14/01/2019 00:19

And eight years isn't even worth mentioning!

IndieTara · 14/01/2019 00:20

Ex Dh is 12 years younger than me but looks older.
He lied about his age when we met, I only found out on his 30th birthday after we were married

uhtredsonofuhtred · 14/01/2019 08:07

@IndieTara my husband lied too told me he was 23 when In fact he was 19 🙈
