Who's got a toy boy?

What is the age difference?
Are you both compatible?
Does he feel like a child that you did not birth? 🙄
I'm 8 years older that my dh, we seem to be compatible in some ways.
And yes he sometimes feels like I've gained another child but I wouldn't swap him for the world because he's a good egg. 😁
I've had comments from people in the past saying it won't last and asking what he could possibly see in an older woman

Has anyone had this before?

@uhtredsonofuhtred that's not so bad I got married at 39 thinking he was 34 but he was actually 27!

I usually go out with guys 5yrs or so older but I met someone 5yrs younger (on POF - I forgot to change my age settings to weed out those under 30).
He's wonderful but my reasons for not wanting to date younger blokes was that they'd not be in the same place re marriage and kids as I am. After 9mths together this did come to the forefront and he's now saying he's never wanted either.

I'd be a bit worried if he was like having a child (my ex was like that and it was exhausting!). I find my current partner very grown up in normal life but incredibly clingy and childlike in his need to be mothered.

He says he doesn't notice the age difference but I certainly do - he doesn't understand ANY of my references to popular culture from when I was a kid. I never had this issue with guys older than me as at least we were both around in the 80s 🙈

@Jsku because she had the eldest DC before meeting the DH, obvs.

OP if you hate the phrase "toy boy" why did you use it in your title?

8 years is fuck all TBH. There was 15 years between me and my H (he was the older) and the only time anyone ever commented was towards the end of his life when he was in ill health and then at medical appointments we got the "Can your .... errr daughter? Wife? support you in this"

Then we split up and he got with a woman who was 25 years younger than him. He was older than her parents. Must have made for interesting family dinners.

My ex was 7 years younger than me and was a total manchild...never again will I get involved in someone younger.

I think this thread highlights that it's really nothing to do with age, just the individuals themselves.
My exH was 2 years older than me but a bigger man child than my now BF who is 10 years younger 🤷🏼‍♀️

Pinkmonkeybird · 14/01/2019 09:40

@wishywashy6 yes, I suppose you are right! I'm just very bitter about my ex. I have a friend with a manchild husband who is the same age as her.

Hmm I like a physio at work who looks younger than 30. I'm 42 but he doesn't know that.
I hardly know him but he already has shortened my name & added me on Facebook! He's very chatty only to me.

I do find him very attractive but if I dated him I would never call him a toy boy as I have too much respect for him & also he's a professional.

wishywashy6 · 14/01/2019 10:07

@Pinkmonkeybird I completely understand that, I just try not to judge people based on anything other than their own actions, not the actions of those before them.
Despite being 26 he owns his own house and is in the early stages of setting up his own business alongside his regular day job. He's respectful, thoughtful and caring and we click in so many ways I genuinely never think about the age difference. I dated a few guys my own age or older before meeting him and some of them were far less mature!

uhtredsonofuhtred · 14/01/2019 11:15

@NotTheFordType it was very tongue on cheek, what else do you call a male that is younger than you?

I don't really look at him as a toy boy tbh, we have 2 children together he's an amazing stepdad to my older children, if anyone asks how many children he has he always says 5 which sounds ridiculous at he's age. He has his own business and works really hard to support us.he doesn't need mothering he can be a bit untidy and loves he's PlayStation ( but he doesn't drink/smoke/go out) but I guess theres a lot older men do that, he's only 9 years older than my daughter that's what I meant about feeling like I've got another child that I did not give birth too 😁

I am 9 years older than my OH. We got together when he was 21 and I was 30 (now I'm 37).

I didn't realise how young he was when we first met and although it bothered me at first now I don't even think about it.

something2say · 14/01/2019 18:16

I'm six years older than my partner. It bothered me in the beginning, but now not really. He is so sweet, I told him I didn't like being an older woman and people calling me a cougar, and ever since then he's said he's the older one whenever it's come up amongst our conversation, and as well as that he is a bruising rugby player type man who takes excellent care of me. It's silly really, age stuff, but it did bother me. He's no man child though, he is the eldest of three brothers. Maybe that's relevant?
