So do and I swapped presents tonight, unknowing to him I found his receipt last week (couldn't stop myself reading) it was a jewellery shop receipt that had 3 items on...earrings, necklace set with earrings and a gift bag. He gave me my gifts tonight and there was the necklace set in the gift bag...one item missing.

How should I play this ladies?

Letting him mull it and as said, the reaction will speak volumes.

ChorleyFMcominginyourears · 26/12/2018 22:20

ladytmp · 27/12/2018 12:05

troubleswillbeoutofsight · 27/12/2018 12:27

Happened to me. Found two receipts before Christmas. One for a piece of jewellery and the other for a boring cardigan. I got the cardigan. I chucked him out. He went straight to ow

Have you had a look to see if it’s anywhere in the house Op? I’d try have a snoop in his hiding places if you can. He might have bought it for some other occasion or even picked both things up to decide which to give you and plans to return the other item.

Although I’d probably just ask him about it, if you ask for the receipt and he’s planning on giving you it at some other time, he won’t want to give you the receipt. I’d just admit you saw the receipt and it’s stressing you out who the other gift was for.

In my experience with nothing to hide a partner will be understanding and do anything to reassure you that it’s nothing. When they’re up to something they’ll try lies that they can’t then prove so might say it’s for you for Valentine’s Day but won’t show you he’s still got it. Or they go straight to the “don’t you trust me”.

ThePeachPit · 27/12/2018 13:42

Plus I’d have to know and wouldn’t be able to keep quite.

Justincase87 · 27/12/2018 13:47

Could he have taken the earrings back? My DH is a panicker and when he bought my engagement ring (he didn't know I knew) he kept telling me he had bought my birthday present but wasn't sure about it, then when he'd given it to me he told me he had almost taken it back and exchanged it

dalmationdotty · 27/12/2018 13:54

ask him? you discovered the receipt innocently, you could ask him?

BlackCatSleeping · 27/12/2018 13:56

Did you ask him yet?

ladytmp · 27/12/2018 14:15

@momoa80 i agree with @ThePeachPit if you ask for the receipt and he has got you the other gift, he may act shifty so as to not give the surprise away, or may just offer to do it for you meaning, you still dont get the answer you want.

Id just be mega casual about it, say you were doing laundry, came across the receipt and had a look in case it was something important. Saw what was on it but didnt wanna mention it before xmas as to not spoil the surprise. Gauge his reaction as your doing this, then say something like, i really love the necklace set , but i swear the receipt had earrings on them too! was that an extra gift for someone we know? Id love to see them if there from the same place!

Just play it cool, smile, dont ask him in an accusing way, if hes guilty hell be defensive straight away, act like your not really bothered, just intrigued to see what they are like in comparison to your set....

He can then either agree...saying its for someone you both know..if thats the case you can then say which friend? how come we've kept it back? shall we give it to them tomorrow..ect... as yes that could be a cover up, but from his reaction youll see if its the truth or not...

If he says its for you..great! no issue! just say something like really sorry for spoiling the surprise, only checked in case it was important!

if he says actually there for another women...you take that set and lob it at him along with anything else nearby.... Grin no, honestly im really sorry if that is the case but im sure theres an innocent explanation to it all...

@Momoa80 I hope everything worked out for you.

Supertiredmummy · 01/01/2019 15:26
