SausageSimon · 21/10/2018 22:06

I've been single for 4 years now and I'm finally feeling ready to meet someone. The problem is my job is very female orientated and I rarely go out

How did you meet your partner and how old were you?

OP posts:
Mumtothelittlefella · 22/10/2018 11:59

In a night club just after I turned 30 (he was 28). I went out with girl friends and thought to myself I need to be open minded and not shut people down because they’re not my usual ‘type’. 10 happy years later and he’s more handsome than ever - I could stare at him all day long 😳

CaseStudyResearch · 22/10/2018 11:59

At a party, I was 20 and he was 25.

Together 9 years and counting.

Justletmego · 22/10/2018 12:02

We were teens and met at a house party, in our thirties now so we’ve grown up together. I’d like to think we would have crossed paths anyway as later we realised we had each other added on MSN through a different route (Good old days of MSN!)

ASundayWellSpent · 22/10/2018 12:28

Met as colleagues when I was 17 doing a weekend job, friends first, then a couple. Married when I was 21, still together now with 2DDs

hammeringinmyhead · 22/10/2018 12:37

In the bar at university on the first night. We didn't get together until the end of the year though. We were 18 and 19 and that was just under 15 years ago. We're about to have our DS any day now!

PartridgeJoan · 22/10/2018 12:44

Through his sister - who is also my best friend. I was 24, he was 30

Haberpop · 22/10/2018 13:04

Tinder, I accidentally swiped left instead of right (he had no profile and my rule had been to not engage with anyone with no profile as it seemed more likely they would be married) within minutes he had messaged me, we were 52 and 53 at the time. Been together ever since, moved in together last Nov and are very, very happy.

malteserhound · 22/10/2018 13:07

21 and 24, met at a mutual friend’s house party. Together 19 years, married 14, one DS aged 9yrs.

ladybranstonpickle · 22/10/2018 13:46

met online on an app, got engaged after 14 months, married by 18 months, first year anniversary coming up. I am 37 and had been single with a handful of relationships for years and years and years. and never got close to engagement/marriage. Was starting to put into place a Plan B for having a baby solo.

its not popular on mumsnet but I swear by The Rules books by Sherrie Schneider and Ellen Fein.

The Rules
[[https://www.amazon.co.uk/Not-Your-Mothers-Rules-Secrets/dp/1478977760?tag=mumsnetforum-21
Not Your Mother's Rules]] (good for online dating and text messaging etc)

All about being your best self, dating with confidence and protecting your heart. Of a support group of 20 women started 4 years ago, 5 are engaged, 8 are married and 3 have babies already after getting married.

inlectorecumbit · 22/10/2018 14:03

both 18, met at work l was working in an operating theatre and he was working in the labs. He got phoned to come and get the piece of breast tissue for urgent analysis-- and our eyes met as l handed it over - bearing in mind l was hat and masked up.
He must have seen something in me... he asked me out and we have been together 35 years.

ComtesseDeSpair · 22/10/2018 16:06

In a nightclub, wearing costumes and masks, high as kites. 32 and 36. And she was a woman. I’d assumed I was pretty straight until then.

Sometimes life really knows how to throw you a curveball.

Undercoverbanana · 22/10/2018 16:13

We met running. I was 46, he was 37. Together 4 years now.

Xenadog · 22/10/2018 16:37

Met after ‘meeting’ on eHrmony when we were both 38. I moved in with him just over a year later and then found out I was pregnant almost immediately. DD is nearly 5 and we’ve been together ever since.

Bacteriophage · 22/10/2018 18:24

At my first job in a factory, it was 1987 and i was 17, he was 21. We have been together ever since, married at 19, three kids later, we are now oldGrin

catsandogs · 22/10/2018 18:27

We were both 14 when we met in Tesco on Christmas Eve, both hiding behind our dad's who were talking. We became a couple the next December, we were together 7 years before we got married and celebrated our silver wedding this year.

completely outing to those who know me

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 22/10/2018 18:32

I was 28, he was 25. Met from online dating. Been together 2 years and have a 1 year old, I have three other kids. We have recently married.

ILoveMyMonkey · 22/10/2018 18:32

isseywithcats · 22/10/2018 20:50

Gin0clock · 22/10/2018 22:29

I was 26, DH 29, met through my uni placement. Four children and 24 years later still together

poppyseed2 · 22/10/2018 22:33

At work. I was 22 at the time, but nearly 25 by the time we got together.

Heavystream · 22/10/2018 22:36

We first met in Year 7, he was really unpopular and known as the ugly kid and I was quite popular, I was going out with his best mate at the time so I spoke to him a few times. In year 11 I became friends with a group of boys and not long later he joined our friendship group. We got together when we were both 15. We will have been together 10 years next year and married 6. We have 3 sons and another on the way.

LeslieYep · 22/10/2018 22:37

I was 30, he was a week off 32 on our first date.
Met on match affinity! Been together over 7 years and married for 3. One DD is 2.

I was literally weeks out of a many years long EA relationship but I'd mentally checked out, so despite my friend saying he was a rebound, i knew it was bollocks!

hamburgers · 22/10/2018 22:41

I was 25, almost 26. Met through work (kind of). I was hosting an event as an events manager and DH was a client/member at the event.

Mummaluelae · 22/10/2018 22:44

I was 23, he was 32 passed each other few times in local area. Then officially introduced by a mutual friend and clicked straight away.

Orangelover · 22/10/2018 22:49

Met him in a club in our uni city. Got chatting and turned out he'd lived next door to me for 6 months and we'd never seen each other BlushGrin

I was 20 and he was 21. Been together nearly 5 years, did break up briefly when we were distance but got back together and bought a little house and a cat and now I'm hoping I get lucky enough for a sparkly ring because I do kinda love him Blush

Hope you find love OP and it all works out. I always think that these things come along and take you by surprise. I'm a believer that there's someone for everyone and it doesn't matter how you meet, online, in a bar, at work etc Smile
