my dh & i have 1 child and are trying to cut back a bit on our weekly shop after a few expensive months which have caught up with us. We currently spend about £65 a week & maybe a bit extra for things we've ran out of from local shop.(making a start having one less bottle of wine a week)

Just wondered what other people spend on their weekly shops and any tips on where we could cut back please before dh has a fit!

far far too much!

NuttyMuffins · 11/05/2007 20:27

Roughly £55

Hassled · 11/05/2007 20:29

£150ish for 2 adults, 2 teenagers (with adult appetites), 2 little ones and 2 cats.

charliecat · 11/05/2007 20:29

I buy value loo roll and kitchen roll(or none at all if theres not enough money)
Hunk of meat lasts 2 dinners, as does 1 chicken, add rice or potatoes and some veg, frozen if needbe and thats 4 nights dinners.
I dont buy packets of biscuits or cheesestrings or yogurts or stuff like that.
And I buy smellys on BOGOF, never fullprice, as well as washing up liquid when its cheap, dishwasher tablets when it cheap, washing powder only when it cheap...etc.

LazyLine · 11/05/2007 20:35

We spend about £60 a week. Neither of us drink though.

Zola78 · 11/05/2007 21:01

You don't do tesco's for ethical reason, lobbylobby. What ethical reasons?

Clayhead · 11/05/2007 21:03

£50 to £60 per week, me dh, ds and dd.

Smurfgirl · 11/05/2007 21:04

About £30 a week for me and DF.

ChocolateFace · 11/05/2007 21:08

Two adults, three children, 2 cats.
£140-£150 (Sainsbury's on-line)
This does include nappies, and cleaning products.

This is very intersting, as it's not somthing I feel I can ask people, unless I know them really, really well.

multitasker · 11/05/2007 21:08

2 adults, 3 dc - about £80 average. No alcohol, no smokes and keep meat to a minimum from the local butcher. Menu planning is a must. I could cut it finer if I had to but that is us living fairly comfortably and with a good dinner every night.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 11/05/2007 21:09

£120-150 with Ocado
£10-50 grocers/farmers markets etc
£10-20 milkman

3DCs, 1 very large dog, lots of guests.

ScoobyDooooo · 11/05/2007 21:11

PavlovtheCat · 11/05/2007 21:13

far far far far tooooooo much
me, dp, dd aged 10months, 2 poosecats.

charliecat · 11/05/2007 21:15

I wondered about the tesco ethical reasons too, surely all the supermarkets, regardless of name are screwing little companys for big profits?

TenaLady · 11/05/2007 21:15

dh and 1 child we spend around £80 to £100 a week. That is pretty disgusting really but I think it is due to most of it being organic and therefore a little more pricey.

kimi · 11/05/2007 21:16

About £100 a week.

No wine in that though, as we get that delivered from the wine society.

Do get lots of fruit and veg and meat though.
It's more when I have to get soap powder and loo rolls but that's only once a month as I get massive boxes/packs.

TenaLady · 11/05/2007 21:17

ooh just flipped the thread, we are way over the top, we dont even have animals, if you dont count the rabbit. Neither of us smoke and we last on one bottle wine a week!

Maybe I need to shop around.

charliecat · 11/05/2007 21:20

All you £100+ a day, thats ermmm...how much a day???? £13 a day, I need a maths class thats probably wrong and I am slightly pissed.

FiveFingeredFiend · 11/05/2007 21:20

I did spend 115 it lasted 2 weeks. I feed 6 people 4 days a week and 5 people 3 days a week.

we have recently been very skint. I spent £28 on a weekly shop for this week and managed to feed us all. However that was just food. Luckily i still have washing powder, toilet cleaner, worktop cleaner, scourers and washing up liguid left from last shop.

charliecat · 11/05/2007 21:21

If I was going to spend £13 a day id just have toast and coffee and a chinese every night

pussycatmomma · 11/05/2007 21:22

hmmm, this is really interesting.
Our food bill seems to creep up every week....does anyone else feel that to buy healthier food eg lots and lots of fruit and veg, and fresh fish and chicken then the price just rockets?
2 adults, 3 cats and 1 small dog and our food bill is between £80-£90 per week but that does include toiletries and wine.
We are always trying to get the price down but never seem to be able to manage it. I only buy fresh veg and fruit, yoghurts, chicken breasts, and fresh fish. That is the mainstay of our diet with stuff like milk, bread, philadelphia and the pet food. I dont see how i can cut down, and still buy the same type of food.
Obviously everyone else has the same problem.

pussycatmomma · 11/05/2007 21:23

is jumk just cheaper??

pussycatmomma · 11/05/2007 21:24

sorry , i obviously dont mean that the people spending less are eating junk
(((pussycat slinks off to finish her wine))))

monkeyandcheekychops · 11/05/2007 21:25
