Would you life model?

My husband life models for an all male art group. The artist pays him £85 from 1pm to 3.30pm. They are looking for a female model I am tempted but not sure it’s an excellent fee. Would you do it.

I go to a weekly life drawing group to draw the model - it's a hard job to hold poses although the person setting the poses would take into account your inexperience at set easier shorter poses. No one bats a eyelid at the model be they skinny or big and curvey. It's all very professional and focused.

LaGattaNera · 07/04/2018 18:33

Yes £85 for 2.5 hours so long as the room was warm, definitely!

LaGattaNera · 07/04/2018 18:35

I just looked on indeed.com and these jobs are paying £12 - £15 per hour so £85 is great.

Creativepursuits · 08/04/2018 03:54

That is a great rate being quoted above! I’ve posed a few times as well as being a hobbyist photographer.

If anyone needs a model based in the north west (Liverpool/Manchester/Chester/potteries areas) give me a shout! Obviously interested in classes but also will pose for individuals whether it be amateurs or whatever.

BitOfFun · 08/04/2018 04:06

I'd bite their hand off! I used to do it for Edinburgh College Of Art for minimum wage.

BubblingUp · 08/04/2018 04:08

Absolutely - if they wanted a mid-50's woman.

NicolaNineLives · 08/04/2018 06:38

I wish I had the body confidence to say that I could. If I did, I would.

GinAndToast · 08/04/2018 06:54

I did once for an incredibly famous artist, before children.

I am pleased I did, and have a copy of the exhibition programme (I could never afford an actual piece!). It was fun "work" and he was an absolute interesting man.

Helmetbymidnight · 08/04/2018 07:00

I would but not for an all male art group. I'd need a woman there.

Justwaitingforaline · 08/04/2018 07:19

I’d do it for £85, I used to do it for pennies when I was a student!

NeeChee · 08/04/2018 07:25

I'd do it if I wasn't so fidgety, I doubt I'd be able to sit still for very long.
I was always under the impression that they are more interested in bodies with more "character" I'm probably too skinny lol

2cats2many · 08/04/2018 07:29

I did it all through uni. It was a great way to earn extra cash. Certainly easier than waitressing.

hereyougosuckmyassforensics · 08/04/2018 07:36

@fuckingitupforfree basic male biology.

PussGirl · 08/04/2018 07:45

I'd be happy to do it - wouldn't find it awkward at all.

I'd find it difficult keeping still, though!

MrPerkinsisaprick · 08/04/2018 08:02

hereyougo - I think if a man struggles to not get an errection being in a room with an attractive woman, life modelling isn't a good job for them.

hereyougosuckmyassforensics · 08/04/2018 08:53

I don't have a penis so I can't vouch but I would suggest that a man can get an erection at any time no matter how hard he tries not to (excuse the pun)

MaggieMay23 · 08/04/2018 09:05

In all my years of life drawing I have never seen a male model gave an erection. It's a job to them. Once at art college a man started huffing and heavy breathing while the tutor was out of the room. We all just sidled out and went to the canteen for a coffee.

Most models see it a job and if they're there for other reasons they don't last long as they get weeded out.

Creativepursuits · 08/04/2018 10:23

I’ve never had an erection when posing. I understand it can happen (without the model being a perv) but maybe I’ve been lucky. I’m too focussed on staying in the pose

BestIsWest · 08/04/2018 10:44

I took life drawing classes for a few years and loved it. The best model we had was in her 40s and not at all skinny. Luscious to draw.

Very hard to do though. If we were short of a model we took it in turns to pose (clothed). Very hard to hold a pose even for a short time.

iklboo · 08/04/2018 10:47

I would. I've been thinking about seeing if any life classes want models. Especially after seeing 'Benefits Supervisor Sleeping' by Lucien Freud.

Creativepursuits · 08/04/2018 12:53

Those of you musing over it- do it! Genuinely the most liberating thing you can do. I felt so much better about myself afterwards. Suddenly I wasn’t bothered about my lumps and bumps!
If anyone has any questions feel free to PM me if you don’t want to ask in public

PlausibleSuit · 08/04/2018 13:20

I've done it. It was enjoyable; very liberating and the artists were nice and really appreciative. £85 for 2.5 hours is pretty good IME. I've still got one of the sketches that one guy did, it's beautiful work. and makes me look much more attractive than I actually am

Speaking as a man... any guy who thinks they're going to get an erection in a flippin' art class has been watching too many ! It's a job.

Creativepursuits · 08/04/2018 14:59

Reading back the OP class seems a bit bizarre and I’m a bit sceptical. I’ve never seen any reference anywhere to a group that only draws smooths males

RGNstaffnurse · 08/04/2018 16:06

My husband has posed with an erection and the stages thereof for a medical book author/photography . He said it really was hard work [no pun intended] it was at a university and he was paid £300 for that. He has never had an erection in an art class. He goes into a sort of trance when poseing doing mental arithmetic.

No, but only because I usually feel cold!
