Report him to the police?

Mumli · 03/03/2018 03:52

Will they do anything about it

Report him, they will take it seriously. What makes him so fucking special that he won't pay tax, drive in a legally safe car or insure it? Makes me so bloody angry

Kursk · 03/03/2018 04:05

Try reporting, doubt they will do anything. It’s not worth their time.

MyLawnMowerMan · 03/03/2018 04:28

Do you really need to ask? Why are you allowing the most precious people in your life to go in his 'death trap? If he can't afford tax, insurance or MOT he cannot afford to run a car.

The police do attend for these offences; there are dedicated traffic officers collision units. Hopefully the traffic unit meet him before the collision unit get called out. Let the traffic until know where he will be, such as the school run, they'll do the rest!

I have been an accident investigator for the motor insurance industry for a long time and I have attended way too many coroner's courts dealing with an uninsured's collision. Statistically an uninsured driver is significantly more likely to be involved in a collision. The collisions they tend to be in are far more serious and more likely to be a fatal collision. The uninsured driver couldn't give 2 fucks about his car, its a death trap. He probably doesn't put your children's safety any higher up his list of priorities. Please sort it out, believe me, it isn't worth the risk.

MyLawnMowerMan · 03/03/2018 04:36

@saz makes me angry too. What I really don't understand is why anyone would let their children in such a dangerous vehicle? Perhaps my views are skewed due to my profession?

Mumli · 03/03/2018 04:53

I have reported him and told police what time and what days but still nothing has happened been over 3 months now

OP posts:
ChickenMom · 03/03/2018 05:55

Can you stop him doing school pick ups? Go see a solicitor.

ivykaty44 · 03/03/2018 05:58

If you don’t report him you would be irresponsible

ivykaty44 · 03/03/2018 06:01

Email your police and cc your MP if nothing happens within a month re email asking why nothing has happened

Then go to the local newspaper

Bezm · 03/03/2018 06:41

If you wanted to, he could be reported to social services for this, and they would act on it.

Saz1995 · 03/03/2018 07:40

Exactly, no way in hell would I let my baby in a car that's a death trap.

ivykaty44 · 03/03/2018 07:47

If you contact each authority in writing they would struggle to justify ignoring this should anything happen to the children or another civilian

SlackPanther · 03/03/2018 07:52

Is contact subject to a court agreement? Did you arrange it through solicitors?

If so I would get your solicitor to write a letter saying this must not happen and you are withholding contact until it is rectified.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 03/03/2018 07:54

Your ex partner does not give a monkeys about the safety of anyone and he needs to be off the road. I would call the police on their non emergency number again. In the meantime do not allow him to collect your children; btw were such arrangements ever court arranged or informally done?

I would also contact the DVLA giving them the registration number of the vehicle.

insancerre · 03/03/2018 07:58

Next time he is due to collect ring the police and report it then and tell them where is is and where he is going and where he lives
Actually, ignore that
I would just refuse him access till he has insurance etc

PurpleWithRed · 03/03/2018 08:00

I suspect this is likely to be a war not a battle - keep reporting him to the police, and inform social services that you are concerned that your children are at risk because you know he doesn’t maintain his car. Also solicitor if you have one. And keep nagging away, doing it again and again. Does he know that you know?

bumba27 · 03/03/2018 09:19

How is it a death trap having no tax and insurance? MOT yes but the others it's just a case of paying money to the government nothing to do with the way he drives or safety of the car and no insurance means he just not insured if there was an accident.

Rosielily · 03/03/2018 09:25

The OP has described the car as a death trap, irrespective of it having valid MOT and Insurance.

Insurance is not paid to the government, rather to whichever insurance company best fits your needs.

"no insurance means he just not insured if there was an accident." There is no "just" about it. Who picks up the bill for damage if an uninsured driver causes an accident? Who pays compensation for injuries........???

AttilaTheMeerkat · 03/03/2018 09:29

bumba

Its not that simple.

Unscrupulous uninsured drivers are a huge burden to both the British driving public and to insurance companies. Those without insurance cause premiums to rise, making it more expensive for law-abiding drivers.

Around half a million motorists were fined (averaging £320) and given penalty points between 2010 and 2014, but this will be little consolation if you have been hit by an insured driver.
Sadly, uninsured or untraceable drivers are responsible for an estimated 130 deaths a year and almost 27,000 injuries. Uninsured drivers are also at risk of having their vehicle seized and destroyed.

Making an insurance claim will be difficult if you’re involved in an accident with an uninsured driver and you’re not at fault. But as well as causing you extra hassle, it is estimated that fraud adds, on average, an extra £50 to the annual insurance bill for every UK policyholder.

Make sure you have a note of the vehicle registration number, make, model and colour as well as the street name, town and postcode where the vehicle is parked.

OP what work needs doing to the car? What makes it a death trap?

123MothergotafleA · 03/03/2018 12:12

It is my understanding that the Police can impound an uninsured car.
Report him and do not allow him to take your children in his car. I suspect he is careless with the safety of the children in the car, are the seats properly fitted and safe? I'll bet not.

Just? Just? So if your DC were to get knocked down by this irresponsible reckless idiot, would you shrug your shoulders about the fact he is driving around uninsured on the public highway?

His whole attitude is indicative about how much he cares about other people's including his DCs safety.

Tax, insurance and MOT go hand in glove, they all must be in place for the car to be legal.

Definitely take it further OP, and don't stop until he has sorted the matter out.

I don't suppose he's been banned from driving by any chance .... if so that's an even bigger issue.

SandyY2K · 03/03/2018 12:23

In your shoes I woudnt let him take the kids.
