Report and never let him drive the kids. Without the MOT you can't be sure of the car's safety.

ForalltheSaints · 03/03/2018 13:32

Report him to the police, and never let him drive your children. Make alternative arrangements and let the school know of them.

FitBitFanClub · 03/03/2018 13:40

So,he's not insured and has an accident with the kids in the car. One (or more) of them is seriously injured, needing life-changing care. Insurance pay-outs can surely help ease that financial burden?

chipsandgin · 03/03/2018 13:48

Report the number plate to the DVLA not the police.

Look up the nubmer plate on this website and you can verify the current status:

vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

If your car has no MOT it can't be taxed or insured. Driving a car without insurance will automatically be prosecuted within a month. Not taxing a car will have similar consequences. Basically it is near impossible to drive a car with no MOT, tax or insurance in 2018.

If he is telling DVLA it is offroad and it has a SORN but goes past any recognition camera it will also be caught.

Have you checked the DVLA website to see what the status actually is?

bumba27 · 03/03/2018 13:52

Don't the NHS pay for medical care? Regardless of insurance or not if he's going to have a crash he's going to have a crash. Being insured isn't going to stop an accident?

Read what I said, tax is paid to the government, pointless and day light robbery if you ask me.

Insurance covers party's for damage on cars, not people's lives.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 03/03/2018 13:52

Regardless of court orders regarding access, he would not be driving my kids around. Don't know why you are allowing it tbh.

Starlight2345 · 03/03/2018 13:57

I would refuse to allow him to allow him to collect my child . However how do you actually know it is uninsured ?

Greenicicle · 03/03/2018 14:57

Bumba youre an idiot.

Munchyseeds · 03/03/2018 15:34

The NHS wouldn't pay for long-term care at home following life changing injury

MyLawnMowerMan · 03/03/2018 16:36

If the police haven't responded, you could try a different approach. Call them immediately before he does the school run and suggest he may be driving whilst unfit to do so, with children in the car. Shown them your genuine concern for the young occupants and then mention the no tax, insurance, unsafe vehicle etc.

If they still do nothing, you need to write a formal complaint and stress the danger to the children in the vehicle.

I have to say though, I am truly shocked/upset that you have allowed your children in the car for 3 months, knowing it is an uninsured death trap. Please, sort other arrangements, is it really OK to consistently allow your children to be put at risk? You are there to protect your children. But, like I said, maybe my profession makes me more anxious about your kids predicament?

ThisLittleKitty · 03/03/2018 19:14

I wouldn't report to ss op. It will be you that has them on your back for allowing him to collect them. Just stop letting him take them in the car.

Ok. I shall ask. How so?

Oldraver · 03/03/2018 20:19

Insurance covers party's for damage on cars, not people's lives.

What a stupid thing to say..of course insurance pays for people lives.

If you are severely injured, car insurance would pay out for your care needs...sometimes running into millions

Kursk · 03/03/2018 20:34

Uninsured people who drive around in un-MOT-ed death traps are the kind of people who don’t follow rules because they have a massive sense of entitlement.

I get that people think tax is pointless. I agree it is but unfortunately the government will screw you if you don’t pay.

As for the MOT, it depends on what it has failed on, the majority of MOT failures don’t make it a death trap.

RowenasDiadem · 03/03/2018 20:47

Report him. Tell the police the registration number and where he will be and the police will take action. They're your children. Worth more than anything else in this world. Why would you not report him? Just be prepared to get that phone call to go pick them up when his car is impounded.

MyLawnMowerMan · 03/03/2018 21:04

@bumba your understanding of how insurance work is truly worrying.

Insurance DOES cover people's lives. If I ran your family member down, and they died, wouldn't you expect my insurance company to pay out, to cover, at least, the financial losses resulting from the death? Then compensation for loss of your relative?

I met so many people through work with your attitude and lack of knowledge and common sense!

Being insured doesn't prevent accidents, obviously, but uninsured drivers take greater risks and the outcome tends to be worse, with a greater number of fatal outcomes (recklessness - goes with the personality type that thinks its OK to be uninsured)

Celticrose · 04/03/2018 12:00

I bought a new car two weeks ago. Made sure car was insured before I drove it away from the dealer. Next evening I was driving home when I saw blue lights flashing behind me. Thought initially they wanted past do pulled in but do did they. My car no was not coming up as being insured on the data base

Celticrose · 04/03/2018 12:06

Sorry posted too soon.
They thought that maybe the car was new. Fortunately I had the insurance certificate on my phone to show the police officer. They were doing a blitz on our town looking for uninsured drivers also there was also a DVLA team from Scotland drafted in to pull cars in to check for Mot (doing mot inspections on the dpot in the car park) and checking for tax. Lucky the police officer did not mention the car tax. But that got sorted the next day when I finally managed to get the certificate printed as PO only accepted hard copies.

Celticrose · 04/03/2018 12:30

Maybecreport him again. If you have reported this to the police and they do nothing and he has an accident I think they will be in deep trouble to be honest and you would be able to sue them. But I am sure you to not want it to come to that. Perhaps report to DVLA they will deal with the no tax and mot but he will have to have valid insurance & Mot before taxing the car. I regularly see the DVLA out checking for tax. Car at roadside photographing car no plates checking for red diesel. He will get caught sooner or later. But I would in no way let the DC in the car with him. Maybe as someone up thread said try social services surely they cannot ignore your children being put at risk

PersianCatLady · 04/03/2018 12:36

Bumba
You have no idea what you are talking about.

Go away and educate yourself about what insurance actually covers and then come back and try to post something sensible.

ferando81 · 04/03/2018 13:00

Driving without an MOT shows a lack of responsibility and illustrates a lack of concern for the safety of others-not exactly parent material
