A friend told me recently that I'm the best mum they know. I welled up!

cakeglory · 04/02/2018 14:28

A few years ago when a lovely regular customer-turned-friend asked me if I had ever considered being a counsellor, as the way I dealt with other people was incredible. Once youngest DS flies the nest next year I will be starting an evening course for an NCFE in Counselling Smile

SilverySurfer · 04/02/2018 14:36

The latest was when a young friend of mine said via Skype 'you know old hag, I'm really going to miss you when you die, can I have your ashes?' (old hag being a term of endearment in this case) Grin

Thischatnameisalreadyinuse · 04/02/2018 14:41

I picked my 4 year old up from school one day and she asked "Did you miss me mummy?" "Of course I did " "I missed you too". That made me well up.

My dp said to me once "You are perfect". That made my heart skip all over the place.

Sharkofdestruction · 04/02/2018 14:43

Lovely thread!
DS saying I was the best mummy in the world, DH saying I had a beautiful face (was wearing a clay face mask at the time) and DD saying that she wanted to grow up and be just like me!

DullAndOld · 04/02/2018 14:45

'you remind me of Joanna Lumley'..:)

PrivateParkin · 04/02/2018 15:14

When my grandad died I was there at the hospital with him and my family, and for a few days beforehand, making phone calls, getting the tea and being a general go-fer for people. I was about 21 at the time. On the day grandad died, my uncle said to me: "you've been standing 6 feet tall these past few days". I'd never heard that expression before (or since) but I was so touched by it. It's really stayed with me. (I'm 5' 1" btw!)

I was on my lunch break some months ago when a young man turned round and said that I was so pretty l and that if he weren't so ugly I would fall in love with him. Winked and walked off. He made me laugh.
A significant ex who told me earnestly when I was 25 that he was sure I'd always have extremely beautiful children.

Frith1975 · 04/02/2018 17:43

An older lady in a shopping centre came up to me once. DS2 has been threatening to have a meltdown (he would have been about 3) and I distracted him then we had a cup of tea in the cafe.

She said something along the lines of I looked after him very well and it was a pleasure to see!

helhathnofury · 04/02/2018 18:17

Have been told a few times how lovely mannered my children are which has made me immensely proud. Now their teens but people do say how grounded they are and sensible - no drama.
An ex told me I was his one that got away, and I was such a loving and caring person. Thankfully not in person as did make me cry.

daisychain01 · 04/02/2018 18:25

This is a lovely fred Smile

DH regularly tells me (normally when I've just come in from a bike ride or gardening and looking like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards) "You are my fantasy".

My DM told me in a letter the other day that she is so lucky to have me in her life.

There's nothing quite as wonderful as making the special people in your life happy Smile

ferrier · 04/02/2018 18:31

It's lovely when people tell me how much they like my children.
But just a couple of weeks ago someone said I looked stunning, seriously stunning Blush That was really nice to hear Smile

cheminotte · 04/02/2018 19:17

When ds was about 6 weeks old and I was travelling on the train with him to see my mum and trying to breastfeed discreetly, an older lady stopped and said I was doing a great job.

When I was nervous about moving countries and finding another job, a colleague said ‘cream always rises to the top’.

Maypole245 · 04/02/2018 19:45

A senior colleague once told me I 'oozed compassion', which has always stayed with me. Especially as he was a bit of a grumpy sod most of the time.

Snee2 · 05/02/2018 10:59

someone said i was the best looking person they had ever seen.

anniefox · 05/02/2018 17:41

A random young stranger came up to me at the airport lounge and told me I was the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen!
Then he just disappeared into the crowds.......

Worldsworstcook · 05/02/2018 23:10

An ex told me if I didn't leave my DP (we weren't married at that stage) and marry him he would marry someone else - he was even prepared to take on my unborn child.

I refused and he found and married a girl he met on holiday in oz within 6 weeks. She came here it lasted 6 months and she left and went back to Oz

He told me no other girl could compare and he would always regret not appreciating or realising what a special person I was and no one would ever measure up.

23 yrs on DH knows nothing about this - or a chance meeting in sainsburys 5 years ago where he said he's still waiting for me.

I was only 22 at the time when he made the first offer but he said that the 17 yo me stole his heart and every minute we spent together is engraved in his heart!

Either Awwwww or Blehhhh depending on your point of view. I love DH but it does light a small corner of my heart when I think of him.
