If your husband said he was going for a couple of beers...

Straw poll!

If your partner or husband text you at the end of office hours and said he was going for a "couple of beers", how long would you expect them to be? Or how long until you'd expect a text to say "I'm going to be out for longer than I thought"? Or would you just not be fussed, and they get home when they get home?

Before midnight. He doesn't go clubbing so if he doesn't Cinderella himself home by midnight I'd be worried something had happened.

Gladiola44 · 23/01/2018 07:14

It would be very odd behaviour for mine as he doesn’t drink beer, or any hop-based drink. Thank goodness as I find a beer belly repulsive! But if he was to go out after work I imagine he wouldn’t be longer than an hour.

This is what we abide by:

If your husband said he was going for a couple of beers...

Get home when they get home. Grown ups can look after themselves. I'd go to bed and not worry.

SandyY2K · 12/03/2018 01:46

I wouldn't be fussed personally. I'd see him when he gets home.

I also wouldn't take 'a couple' literally.

heron98 · 12/03/2018 11:35

I would expect him to be home pretty late as I know what "a couple" means!

Chienrouge · 12/03/2018 11:40

DH works in London (2 hour train ride away) so I’d just expect him to be on the last train home which is about 10pm. He doesn’t get chance to get out for beers much so I wouldn’t be bothered what time he came in.
I’d be a bit pissed off if he missed the last train as it would mean us paying for a hotel but I wouldn’t be massively bothered.

SomeKnobend · 12/03/2018 12:30

About 8pm

mogratpineapple · 12/03/2018 12:57

I hate it when he says he'll only be an hour and he's out all night. These days I expect him when I see him.

Inertia · 12/03/2018 21:33

He works away quite frequently, I often have to work late, and the children need taking to evening activities. All this means that we have to co-ordinate diaries quite tightly. If we had no other plans I wouldn't bother when he got in, but if he stayed out late and cocked up other plans which depended on him being home I'd be angry.

UpSideDownBrain · 13/03/2018 09:13

I would expect him to let me know roughly what time - e.g. 7 or 11 so I can make my own plans for the evening; food, TV etc. But I would not be bothered what that time actually was.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 13/03/2018 09:17

Does it matter? Boggling at all the "I'd expect him home before 7.30" Confused

notangelinajolie · 13/10/2018 00:38

Knowing my DH he'd be home by half past nine. However I wouldn't mind if he stayed out much later. He is a home bird and never goes out without me so I'd be pleased for him that he's having a nice night out.

user14869556378 · 13/10/2018 02:42

A couple of beers means about six for my partner, and it's most days 😂 It only annoys me if we've planned to do something together but that's only because he's a frequent pub goer so I don't think I'm being unreasonable there!

cheesefield · 13/10/2018 03:06

Zombie thread.

NotTheFordType · 13/10/2018 06:06

Oh FFS.

What have you agreed within the boundaries of your relationship?

Because it's nobody else's business, specially not the daily fucking mail

tenorladybeaker · 13/10/2018 06:50

"A couple of beers after work" stops at 8:30pm - and then however long it takes to get home from there is when to expect him.

Of course "a couple of beers" can turn into "a few beers" or "a night out" or "a proper binge session" which would end much later but if that was happening I would expect a phone call and the opportunity to object (including reminding him of how much he has to get done next day)

tenorladybeaker · 13/10/2018 06:51

Oh bugger didn't notice it was zombie. Sorry.

YoureOnOurTerfNow · 13/10/2018 06:53

I'd leave him the fuck alone and not be mothering him whilst henwas out with his mates.

As I would be expected to be left alone in same situation.

wombat1a · 13/10/2018 10:27

For mine, since he has a regular couple of drinking buddies every other Tues I know he will be in around 9ish on that night. Any other night if he messaged I wouldn't even bother waiting up.
