How often do you cry?

Just wondering how often women on here cry. Admittedly, going through trauma can cause constant sadness, but I’m intrigued to see what people write.

Can't remember the last time I cried!

Jenwen22 · 22/09/2017 21:52

I cant cry properly. I honestly wish I could but i cant. I just freeze up and go cold. I have to be mortal drunk or something really really wrong to make me cry. Last year my dad nearly died of phumonia (he didnt thank god) and fast forward a few months DP said at the time when i rang him to tell him youd think I was talking about the weather. Since DS birth Im more emotional. But crying takes a lot for me to do xx

Fairylea · 22/09/2017 21:54

The last time I really lost it and cried was when my now ex dh left me in 2008. I felt so awful the next day after a particularly bad bout that I decided to myself I would never cry like that again as it doesn't change anything and I just felt so awful afterwards. I haven't cried since, apart from maybe a few tears at a soppy film.

I think if it helps or makes you feel better then go for it but I just feel so drained and tired afterwards and I have such a stressful life I need all the energy I can get.

bigsighall · 22/09/2017 21:54

Probably 5 times in the past 20 years. Very rarely. People think I'm weird. Oh is the same. Maybe we just don't have much to cry about??

QueenNefertitty · 22/09/2017 22:03

Since DS was born (one year ago tomorrow!) almost every day.

Something happened to my "cry threshold" when he was born, and there's an extravagant list of things that have set me off in the last 12 months, both happy and sad. Recently feels like sad stuff.

Last night I cried because my mother called me "cold and hard" because I agreed with her that yes, my difficult childhood was her fault.

Today I cried because when I told (recently) exDP this, he couldnt give a shiny shit.

I've had a little tear this evening because DS is 1 tomorrow, and I felt I shouldn't have been wrapping his birthday presents alone.

Off to bed now, before I drown in my own self pity!

RidgeyRidge · 22/09/2017 22:04

Very rarely I have a proper cry. Only today after a number of weeks of stress, someone asked if I was ok at school pick up, cue floods of tears. Totally embarrassed now. Dreading Monday Sad

SomeBerryJam · 22/09/2017 22:16

I used to cry quite often. I was a sensitive, emotional soul.
However, Im currently suffering depression and anxiety at the moment and it's made me do the opposite. I'm actually just feeling numb, I try so hard to have a good cry, but just can't seem to do it......

orenisthenewblack · 22/09/2017 22:19

Every month due to pmt, age, hormones etc. It's shit.

Beentherelefthimgotthetshirt · 22/09/2017 22:26

Several times a week. I feel huge empathy for people in trouble so can be moved to tears with stories on the new, soaps, happy or sad stories... the kids love watching me watching Ghost - the potter's wheel scene gets me each time. it's ridiculous sometimes. Anger makes me ice cold so there's no tears there thankfully. Big sobbing is rare though.

MorrisZapp · 22/09/2017 22:35

I really miss crying. I haven't cried properly for nearly seven years because of being on sertraline. I did cry once when DS was being an unbearable little you know what, he still talks about it years later.

Crying used to feel quite cleansing, but I just can't. It isn't there any more.

I have a few tears now and then but I don't sob.

twattymctwatterson · 22/09/2017 22:47

I cry most days and I hate it. The slightest thing sets me off. Yesterday I realised i was crying and wasn't really that sure what had set me off. I've suffered from depression on and off for years and have had to abandon 2 attempts at talking therapy because I was unable to stop crying for long enough to discuss anything.

SabineUndine · 22/09/2017 22:51

Twice this year. Once when someone was really horrible to me online, once when I had my cat put to sleep.

Garlicansapphire · 22/09/2017 22:55

Since my Mum died I'm more likely to cry - always been dead soppy at films etc but even more so now. Last time was Saturday talking about my X in laws.

Lenl · 22/09/2017 22:57

I last cried 3 months ago after, due to pain, I couldn't sit down on the toilet at the hospital after my c-section.

I used to cry more but I've found lately when I feel really sad, I can't cry even if I want to.

tigercub50 · 22/09/2017 23:01

I have always cried really easily whether I'm happy or sad, angry or frustrated etc etc. I think it's probably a good thing & acts as a release. I used to love watching soppy films with DM & sneaking a peek to see who'd " gone" first. Then we started giggling cos we were crying!

NickMyLipple · 22/09/2017 23:05

I cry on average 10 times a year. DP thinks I'm very emotional and I used to tend to agree. Then I found this article in The Metro and I realised I'm really not that bad!!!

How often do you cry?
tigerdriverII · 22/09/2017 23:14

Proper crying: rarely (last time was when my cat died, 8 years ago)

Manipulated crying: when watching the X factor or similar. It's unamusing.

TinselTwins · 22/09/2017 23:21

Once this year so far: due to physical pain but more out of frustration about it than the actual pain!

LiveLifeWithPassion · 22/09/2017 23:25

Hardly ever and I'm glad I don't cry easily. I do feel sadness and I do blink back tears sometimes but I don't cry very often.
I don't like the feeling of overwhelming sadness.

Forme2016 · 22/09/2017 23:57

This is a really interesting thread because I cry a lot, for lots of different reasons. Although I am going through a divorce which causes me some sadness, overall I feel happier than I have in years.
I think I suppressed my emotions for so long due to my emotionally dead STBXH that I am finally feeling things properly so every emotion has the capacity to move me to tears.
It's actually lovely to be able to express emotions (either by crying or laughing) without thinking about what someone else's reaction might be.

Kipi · 23/09/2017 00:11

If you’d have asked me eighteen months ago the answer would probably have been gawd, I can’t remember.
But it’s been a shit year so it’s probably been anything from ‘five times today’ to ‘maybe four times this week’

LadyLoveYourWhat · 23/09/2017 01:18

Not as often as my husband, who cries every week at Gogglebox or Educating Greater Manchester (or wherever). DD still goes on about him crying watching Daddy's Home with her. Love him.

MrsFring · 23/09/2017 01:42

More and more the older I get, pretty much every day. I went to a concert tonight and cried because the band were so beautiful and the audience were so enthralled.

humblesims · 23/09/2017 08:24

Less and less the older I get. I used to cry often when i was a teenager and young person. Now in my 50's and been through 'stuff' I hardly ever cry. I did when my Mum died (just the once) and again when My Dad passed (again only once). I do shed tears when watching films and stuff but real crying is rare now.

TowerRingInferno · 23/09/2017 08:28

At the moment, every day. Got a lot of difficult stuff going on that has been building for ages.

I never cried as a child. The first time I remember crying was when I was about 27, and then I could go for years without crying at all.
