I went on a date with a guy who told me he couldn't stay out too late because he had to be up to do his community service the next morning.

Gotanewusernamenow · 20/07/2017 12:33

Haha.these are really funny.Grin

All blind dates/OLD if that is not immediately obvious.

(1) Alice band (bob-era David Beckham hair on a brusque NYC lawyer).

(2) Massive blast of insecurity at the phone call stage. I had signed off one of my emails 'Speak soon - ?' as in we had exchanged phone numbers and were going to arrange to, er, speak soon, and he concocted a worry that I was unsure I wanted to speak with him based on the question mark.

(3) Reading list (gave me a used Paulo Coelho novel on first and only date).

(4) Poor spelling and multiple exclamation points (every sentence). I should not have been surprised when he demonstrated his word-perfect familiarity (ie rapped along) with the entire Kid Rock discography. (He was a very handsome, charming exec with a vast Docklands flat, so it was a bit of a surprise regardless.)

(5) Oversharing/sob story. First date with someone whose emails made my heart pound. I felt there was a very good chance this could be it (

was dating a man ten years older than me, I had kids, he didn't. He had split from his wife but wasn't yet divorced. They had two dogs together and he referred to them as the boys, they shared " custody" of these dogs, which involved him sleeping on his couch so he could spend time with them...Whenever I spoke about my kids, he would reply with something about the dogs... he lasted a month.

AndTheBandPlayedOn · 20/07/2017 13:07

Even before the date could happen:
Him asking for a date, "So when are you going to buy me dinner?" (In the US)
Me: "Never."

Another bloke asked me when I was going to move to his town. Same answer- never.

I tried OLD for the first time last year. I started a very brief chat with someone I found engaging but ended up deleting my account as I had a moment of "not sure if this method is right for me" because of all the weird and obnoxious messages I got from other men.

I then decided to give it another go and a few weeks later sent a message to the guy I had been chatting with and gave a brief explanation as to why I disappeared. He said that he could only imagine the kind of messages a cute girl gets on a dating site, and assured me that he wasn't like this at all. We agreed to meet for coffee.

I arrived a few minutes early - he arrived a few minutes late. I knew he drove a jeep and when I saw him pull in to the parking lot in a rush, all I could see was the silhouette of wild, messy hair. I felt immediate disappointment and it was confirmed when I fully saw him, he was gross. Looked and smelled as if he had just rolled out of bed. He also kept trying to figure out where I live, tried to find out where my kids went to school etc (none of which I answered), and after the coffee I let him know I wasn't interested and he proceeded to message me. I had to block him on my phone and POF.

6 months later I got a new phone and it didn't automatically keep the number blocked. A new text from him came through asking if I wanted a nude pic. I blocked him again. Freak.

I'd have given the bloke with the dogs and the bloke whose ex had treated him awfully a second chance!

I had one awful first date with a guy who spoke about the lady he'd been having an affair with for a year (she was married) for the whole two hours.

Another guy, on a second date, asked me if I stole things from hotel regularly (I'm cabin crew). When I said no, he went on to tell me how all his bedrooms had hotel duvet covers that he'd stolen and how he had hotel towels in his bathroom. He was so impressed with himself. It wasn't even a posh chain, so not luxury products, just a Travelodge!

thebigbluedustbin · 21/07/2017 00:21

I went out for a date with a guy that looked thoughtful and lovely via email, at my arrival I realised that in addition to that, he looked like a very nice version of Christopher Reeves. Wow I thought, so he said that we should introduce ourselves and keep going about how did he do this, and that, all his achievements and everytime I tried to say something he said. "erm.. no, let me finish my story and then we may talk about yourself" I listened to his monologue grandiose for half an hour, thanked him for the invite and left.

Oooh, you went on a date with my ex boyfriend! If I ever hear "finish my story" or "I'm telling a story!" again it will be too soon.

I once went for a meal at a dates house (I already knew him in an acquaintance capacity). I shit you not - he said he needed to get a shower as he hadn't had chance, came into the room with a towel around his waist and preceeded to SHAVE HIS PUBES with his back to me and dressing gown on in the corner of the room.
I was absolutely gobsmacked.

TheMysteriousJackelope · 21/07/2017 01:20

'I'll show you the photos of my European holiday'. Cue about 256 photos of assorted railway signal boxes.

Nope.

IwannaBeDelgadaEnMiPrada · 21/07/2017 01:23

I had 3 dates with a man, really sparked off each other, but he believed in and defended the myth of The Happy Hooker. Sad in some ways I kind of miss him but you cant square up to go out with a misogynist when you're a feminist.

PhilODox · 21/07/2017 01:36

The chap who warned me not to fall in love with him, because he could tell it was happening, and he didn't want me to get hurt as he wasn't after anything serious. Hmm
This was straight after sex, btw...it was rebound sex for me, as I'd just left my twatty partner of three years. Definitely wasn't looking for lurve...
His hygeine was v questionable too.

lizzieoak · 21/07/2017 02:24

Might seem like a small thing, but when I briefly tried the online thing I went out with a guy who said (as if it was a minority opinion) "I like your hair, it's wild" (it's not straight).

I thought "if he thinks this is wild I don't think he could cope with sex". A nice man, but seemed the sort to iron his underpants.

SteppingOnToes · 21/07/2017 03:44

I dated a guy for a while and got to the meeting the parents stage - turned out this was because he still lived with them... It ended when his mum had washed, ironed and folded him laundry and handed him the basket. His reply wasn't 'thankyou', it was 'FFS why can't you put them in my bedroom?!'. I left and took his mum out for lunch with me leaving him and his dad to fend for themselves. I did have a brief fling with him some years later but only because he was phenomenal in bed and I was having a drought.
