Lonely single mumma's.....what do you all do on a saturday evening?

When it seems everyone has a life but you :(
I love my own company most of the time as my life is so busy and I have 3 dd's that take up lots of my time which I love but.....sometimes just sometimes when the weather is warm and you have been out all day with them then early evening your dc's are out playing and you can smell bbq's and laughter from your neighbourhood, life can feel kinda lonely.
Is it normal to feel a bit sorry for yourself?
I don't have family and I have minimal work friends so I sometimes have no choice than to sit alone alot!
What do all you single mums get up to?

My dd is 8. Right now we are about to have our usual movie and popcorn night. We both love it. Then when she's in bed I chill and watch a good movie.

Saturday nights to me are my family time with her.

You could BBQ if you wanted to. Don't feel like you can't. I know being a lone parent is hard sometimes but after 6 years I'm actually loving my quiet Saturday nights now xxx

whatsmyname2017 · 08/07/2017 19:06

I know what you mean. I'm newly single so just getting used to being on my own. Tonight for example, I have my 2DS but the oldest one will stay up with me until about 9.30pm and we'll watch a film together. I will then enjoy watching what i want when he goes to bed with a glass of wine (or 2).
Luckily last Saturday night, when their Dad had them overnight, I went out with a friend to the cinema and didn't get home until late.
I know I will have lots of Saturday nights on my own ahead.
I'e just signed up to a group on Meetup.com so intend going to my first event next month, which is afternoon drinks.
Is this an option for you? Do your DD's Dad have them overnight?
Seeing people enjoying family time is definitely more noticeable in the summer. My next door neighbours seems to have a BBQ every night at the moment but its not bothering me (yet).
Could you invite a work friend round for a drink in the garden one Saturday evening perhaps?

I love my Saturday nights with the telly, I usually get a takeaway and watch whatever talent show or gameshows are on, then casualty and a film before bed. I have 2 girls, 8 and 4. They sometimes come and sit with me and we watch a film together but usually they have a dvd night in their own room. I found it so boring at first but after a few weeks and accepting my weekends are no longer just about me I'm content and no longer sit fed up wishing I was out.

Thankyou for your messages :)
I do love a movie night. We usually have a mid week one as we are all so busy. Fridays are now made up of swimming with friends so we dont watch a fri night movie anymore like we used to. Mine no longer want to watch tv with me on a saturday. If theyre not out with friends, theyre on their phones/ipods.
Mine dont sleep out at their dads but they visit him every other weeked on a sunday.
What is meetup? That sounds good. I just have no clue how to make friends at my age.
I have invited work friends over but theyre always busy with their friends or husbands/children etc.
I have tried to bbq alone. Not quite the same. It would just be nice to have company sometimes.

I totally understand the loneliness though, I suspect I'm so used to it now that it doesn't bother me anymore. I have friends but they are childless and I'm not really high on their list of priorities right now so I use Facebook to keep up with what everyone is doing.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 08/07/2017 19:18

I rock up at my neighbours, kids in tow and drink wine whilst our kids play together. It's become our thing now Grin

newnamechange84 · 08/07/2017 19:19

This is only my 7th Saturday night as a LP since I finished my relationship. I've tried to get back with my ex this week as I miss him so much, but maybe not for the right reasons. I have 3 - ds's 10 and 8 and DD - nearly 4. Tonight the two d's are just playing on their laptops while me and DD watch topsy and Tim, plus I've cracked open a cold bottle of wine! DD will go to bed soon and then me and the ds's will have pizza and a film or tv! It is what it is but we have to make the best of it don't we?

Thanks for the messages :)
I love saturday night tv and a takeaway. I think summer evenings are the hardest. Facebook makes me feel worse haha. I can actually see people going to parties, festivals and outwith couple etc. I dont feel like this all of the time, maybe just having a wobble this weekend and feeling sorry for myself :)

Not a mumma but a dadda. Dc's all left home.

So tonight I am in. I've just spent an hour on the phone with a GF having a catch up. The music is on. Just started cooking dinner. The wine has been opened.
Dancin and cookin, can't beat it. Let the party begin. :)

Whatsmyname2017 · 08/07/2017 19:42

Also be thankful you have the DC. Lots of people have no one in their lives at all. I have single friends also who have a fantastic social life but have missed the boat on having kids so I feel luckier than them.

user1496589862 · 08/07/2017 19:50

Very thankful. Very very thankful every. single. day!!!
Enjoy noego :)

I have just sat down after a busy day. DD's are both out partying and I'm about to pour a glass of wine and put some music on. Then I'll take great delight in having the TV to myself for an evening! I am meeting friends for lunch tomorrow so looking forward to that too. I have been separated for a few years now (divorced for one) and quite like my own company after a busy week in work. I like socialising too but still have my fair share of that. I do miss having someone there at times but not enough to change that permanently just yet.

elephantoverthehill · 08/07/2017 20:07

Saturday night=Casuality Grin. I watched it since being an impoverished student and couldn't afford to go out.

noego · 08/07/2017 20:08

There is no point in being single if you do not enjoy the time alone. You might be physically free but are you psychologically free? So these thoughts that may intrude on your peace of mind can be ignored.
So how can you be lonely when you love the one that you are with? (YOU)

I'm enjoying my self, cookin, dancing, drinkin, there are no thoughts about "I could be out" or "I could be with someone" just me here and lovin every minute of it. Might get some Guns n roses on in a mo and hit the air guitar :)

donners312 · 08/07/2017 20:17

I know what you mean - we live in a flat and my boy has just gone mad that all his friends are out playing in their garden and we are stuck indoors. Maybe we should have made a picnic and gone to the park really.

Do you now any other single mums you could invite over for a BBQ with their children?

Otherwise yes it is a night on the sofa with a glass of wine, don't mind that but it seems a waste of a lovely day.

user1496589862 · 08/07/2017 20:19

I do enjoy time alone. Alot!
Sometimes I feel lonely. Sometimes! I never feel like I 'should' be with someone. Absolutely not! Im not saying I would say no to the idea but it is not up there in my priority list.
I do like 'me' by the way. Just feel lonely sometimes, and thats ok.
I have cooked and danced alone and yes, love it. I feel that occasionally this isnt enough and thats just my opinion.

I struggle with evenings too, more so in the summer. Both my dc's are in bed, nothing much on TV so I'm on MN.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 08/07/2017 20:44

Wading in....tonight I will be lying in the bath and painting my toes. My dds are 4 and 7. I quit Facebook when dd2 was a baby my mental health is better for it!!
Casualty later. This time around I'm happy to be a single parent again so it's different but I totally get feeling isolated but I want to be in my own with my girls now.

user1496589862 · 08/07/2017 20:55

Love bubble baths! I treat myself and have my nails done bu love a pamper evening. Thats my friday night luxury whilst the dc's are at swimming :)
Just watching the voice kids :) trying to talk my dc's into watching a film with me :)

Totally hear you OP. I feel the same. Most times are fine but there are those moments where I feel a bit lost and a teeny but lonely usually on Summer nights like this! Tomorrow is another day.
