sex to conceive a boy?

skidaddle · 16/03/2007 17:29

Hi,
dp and I are going away to conceive this weekend (!) and would sort of prefer a boy as we already have a dd. Do all the stories about doing it doggy style, only once, on the day you ovulate (rather than a bit before of after) have any truth in them at all?
Any advice?

Do it parachuting. Worked for me - I have two DSs.

danceswithaSPRINGinherstep · 16/03/2007 17:32

Dr Shettles method worked for us

Mercy · 16/03/2007 17:33

lol hunker

NotanOtter · 16/03/2007 17:33

parachuting hunkey?

shimmy21 · 16/03/2007 17:34

yes, doing it doggy style is scientifically proven to give you at least a 50% chance of having a boy.

NotanOtter · 16/03/2007 17:34

i know girls conceived that way

NotanOtter · 16/03/2007 17:35

it has to be bollocks (fnarr fnarr)

skidaddle · 16/03/2007 17:36

parachuting? is that soemthing rude i don;t know about?

To answer the thread title - yes sex is essential if you wish to conceive a boy

or a girl for that matter

skidaddle · 16/03/2007 17:38

I think men just make up the doggy style thing because they all like it so much, filthy perverts

beansprout · 16/03/2007 17:38

lol at shimmy's statistic!

foxybrown · 16/03/2007 17:38

well i think my boys were conceived day of ovulation and daughter just before.

Male sperm swims fast and die young, female slow and steady. I think. [hmmm]

NotanOtter · 16/03/2007 17:38

i have done it in every conceivable position and have 4 boys

beansprout · 16/03/2007 17:40

I really wish you well, but as someone who has been ttc for nine months now, the idea of going away for the weekend and having sex once and coming back with a pregnancy, does sound a tad optimistic!!

skidaddle · 16/03/2007 17:47

well we might manage to have sex more than once beansprout, but yes that is a good point

"dp and i are going away to conceive this weekend"

I hope you don't have your heart set on definitely falling pg this month.

beansprout · 16/03/2007 17:54

Wasn't trying to rain on your parade or anything, after all, we conceived ds at the first time of asking, but it rarely goes like that. Best of luck to you though, hope you get there first time!

skidaddle · 16/03/2007 17:57

I sort of do actually wannabe because if I don't get preg next month at the latest I won't get maternity leave (long and complicated) so pressure is on, any more advice on upping chances of getting preg?

Mercy · 16/03/2007 17:57

skidaddle, joking aside, just to give you a bit of hope - ds was conceived in one night only and I was nearly 40. So you never know!

Good luck (btw, we had shared a bottle of champagne - maybe that's the answer!)

beansprout · 16/03/2007 18:00

I'm not being flippant, but the only thing that is actually going to get you pregnant is sex (well, a 10ml syringe is also an option but you get my point....) so the best thing is really to have as much sex as possible. Ideally for the 3 or so days leading up to ovulation and then the day after as well. Unfortunately, the trick is to know when you actually ovulate and that can vary, even if you have a regular cycle, hence all the temping, opks, looking out for EWCM etc that haunts us on the ttc threads!!

Rantum · 16/03/2007 18:01

I think that there is some truth to the Dr Shettles method, but it is so dependant on different factors - such as the woman having a regular cycle and being able to accurately tell when she are at the right "point" in it to have influence fertilization (so not foolproof) - I am sure that you have your reasons for not wanting another dd skidaddle, and I hope that you get what you want, however I am from a family where my sister and I were the only children and we are very close to each other - I have never been a fan of the "you need one of each for the perfect family" school of thought.

Rantum · 16/03/2007 18:06

Btw - didnt mean that to sound as judgemental as it might come across - just really reiterating the point that getting pg at all can be tricky, and so to be happy with whatever you get!! Good luck and have a good weekend.

BefnalBub · 16/03/2007 18:10

I'd put money on eating crab and oysters to get pregnant more quickly, not necessarily to concieve a boy - don't know what mine is yet, but will update you end of may. will know then whether they do influence the sex (child's that is)... they certainly influence the parents!

LadyTophamHatt · 16/03/2007 18:10

I've got 4 boys, 3 were concieved as per the text book "between days 12-16"

If you go by that DS4 should be a girl becasue he was concieved on day 8.

IMO its all just pot luck.

hunkermunker · 16/03/2007 18:15

Why would you prefer a boy? Don't you like your girl?
