Online dating - such BAD photos!!

Just a lighthearted post.

I'm splitting up with H and was browsing (just for fun - I'm not up for dating any time soon) on match.com. I was surprised to see the men's profile photos. It seems to be a mixture of good photos of good-looking men, really bad photos of average guys, really bad photos of unattractive (imo) guys, and, frankly, photos that belong on Crimewatch (don't have nightmares 😉).

Why do people use such bloody awful pictures in their online dating profiles? Makes no sense.

Car selfies when they are on their own. Who is that vain?
(gross) loo selfies
Lift selfies
Photos where they are with a z lister
Photos of their car
Photos of them and their obvious ex, with the exes face scrubbed out !
I've even seen a couple of wedding photos. Their wedding Shock

This is why I don't OLD anymore.

YrOriginal · 03/05/2017 17:13

Never understood the bathroom/loo selfie with fluorescent lighting! Especially with clothes on. Saw one today. Just why. There should be a bizarre smiley on Mumsnet. Someone should do a pastiche on online dating photos.

Mind you, it is nice to occasionally see a man doing something or at least a different background. Perhaps thats a good thing. I have always been rather conservative in my approach. One photo. Take or leave it. Grin

if someone's profile (male or female) makes them look a bit dodgy totally wrong for you maybe that's because they are a bit dodgy totally wrong for you?
:o

^ Yep

I'm on a dating site atm and there are so many with no profile pics, what do you all make of that. Was a pita loading my photo but still.

TroysMammy · 03/05/2017 17:35

When I was OLD a guy messaged me with some questions. He wasn't my type but I gave him feedback on one of his photos. He was holding a snake. I'm not bothered about snakes but I advised that some ladies might be. He said he only put it on his profile as he didn't have many photos of himself. He thanked me and said he would remove the photo and I wished him well.

Why do some men have photos of themselves wearing sunglasses...indoors?! Confused I asked one if he was visually impaired and he didn't have a clue what I was on about. I mentioned the glasses and he said he had just come in from the garden, but his photo was a webcam pic so it wasn't as though it was a quick selfie although that would still have been wankery

LightYears · 03/05/2017 17:53

I'd say the sunglasses are some kind of poor attempt at a disguise.

On a slight tangent, last night some notifications popped up on my laptop - STBXH has registered his email on my laptop's Outlook. One of the notifications was from fucking 'Sex in the West Midlands'!!ShockAngryShockEnvyShock

I took the liberty of going through and deleting all the emails he's received from that site. I didn't open most of them, but the two I did were, like, 'curious farm girl needs an education' - complete with photo of her spreadeagled on a bed ready to be shagged.

I'm a bit grossed out. Need H to stop those notifications appearing on my laptop. I don't want DCs seeing. Or me. Envy

I had a go on my friend's Tinder and my god it was an eye opener, old scrappers is right! Unbelievably awful photos. I had to swipe a hundred times or more to find anyone she might like. I swiped right (or is it left) for one man who was very hot, but after they got chatting we googled him and he was her area's top drug dealer...

I reckon it's a poor attempt at trying to look cool...but failing dismally Grin

Either way A hole Grin

I agree about putting photos of your kids on profile pics.....it's really wrong and it screams looking for daddy/mummy figure for my kids.

CoughingForWeeks · 04/05/2017 15:30

. Men holding fish/drugged wild animals
. Multiple photos all with sunglasses on or the same facial expression
. Anyone using photos of their children when they're basically on the pull
' Photos taken at chest height, displaying multiple chins
. Profile pics with 14 people on them (unless you like Where's Wally)
' Men who appear to not own a shirt
. Gym selfies (why would anyone take their phone into the gym?)
. Photos of that one time they went skiing/windsurfing/running/skydiving
. Profiles that only have photos of dogs/cars/facebook memes
. Men who look like serial killers (grim expression & bad lighting)

I could go on all day. Mine are mainly selfies (not filtered) but I have a couple of full length/minimal makeup pics on there too.

I've not seen many with kids, maybe because I'm looking at an older age group. Nor fish..that would put me off. (I take my phone in the gym as I listen to music on it - I think that's quite normal)

My photos are a head shot and a full length one. Fairly flattering but no make up, no filters, no fish. Just wearing casual clothes. I'm not going to pretend to be something I'm not.
