Me and a girl seemed to really hit it off and she told me to add her and after a flirty conversation she just stooped replying?

What's going on?

You really hit it off how? Had you actually met in person?

CaraAspen · 01/03/2017 13:24

Gibe, jibe, jive
Gibe refers to a taunt or a derisive remark. It functions as both a verb (to taunt) and a noun (taunt). Jibe has a nautical use (relating to turning the sail to go on an opposite tack), but it’s most often used to mean agree or to be in accord. Jive refers to either jazz music, dancing, or nonsense talk, although it can sound old-fashioned or ironic in its senses unrelated to dance. It functions as both a noun (for the dance, music, or talk) and a verb (to engage in the dance, music, or talk).

HTH

Cara you had already made yourself look like a prat for pointing out spelling errors Hmm but you have compounded that by being wrong yourself

British English definition: HTH

ItShouldHaveBeenJingleJess · 01/03/2017 13:35

CassyD · 01/03/2017 13:40

hoddtastic · 01/03/2017 13:42

wtf, why are you asking a bunch of mums about your crush on a non-mum?

Holly3434 · 01/03/2017 13:43

Think this thread is turning into a disgrace. Doesn't matter what problems people have they should feel welcome to post here

LateDad · 01/03/2017 13:47

Cara

Surely you mean gybe?

(had to be done)

HellonHeels · 01/03/2017 13:48

Cara, it's already been said by Bit but I'll reiterate - you're wrong.

HTH

ItShouldHaveBeenJingleJess · 01/03/2017 13:50

I'm awaiting Carla's definition of a 'non-mum'. Op, seek RL advice - it ain't gonna happen here.

ItShouldHaveBeenJingleJess · 01/03/2017 13:51

Cara, even. Whoops!

CaraAspen · 01/03/2017 13:52

Gibe is preferable; the jibe version not so much.

ItShouldHaveBeenJingleJess · 01/03/2017 13:55

I can only imagine the OP is thinking "What the FUCK?! Note to self - never ask Mumsnet for advice again"

Purplebluebird · 01/03/2017 13:56

I'm 28 and think of myself as a girl Blush or a woman. Not a lady. Lady makes me feel old.

CaraAspen · 01/03/2017 13:57

HellonHeels

Cara, it's already been said by Bit but I'll reiterate - you're wrong.

HTH

Au contraire.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/03/2017 14:37

I didn't think you could sound any more ridiculous than you already have Cara. But, au contraire, I was wrong.

I have never ever seen the word jibe (meaning tease or make a sneering remark) spelled with a g. None of the British based dictionaries I quickly googled suggest jibe with that definition should be spelled with a g. Neither does the old fashioned paper OED that I still, rather quaintly, refer to almost daily.

If I were you I'd take this as an indication that it is rude and just plain wanky to correct other MNers' spelling and / or grammar. Especially in such a ludicrously pompous manner.

penguincrumble · 01/03/2017 14:40

Does anyone know where the exit is?

Twogoats · 01/03/2017 14:42

At least he didn't say cis-girl...

ItShouldHaveBeenJingleJess · 01/03/2017 15:02

Or bay... Or is it bey? Baa? Where's Urban Dictionary when you need it? And why can't I accept I'm middle aged and no longer down with da kids?

user1488230122 · 01/03/2017 17:15

  1. The message was on FB and said "sent" for about a day then "delivered" but still not read.
  1. I think we hit it off because 1. she made the first contact with a joke. 2. we had a good flowing conversation with another joke or two and 3. it ended with her telling me to find her on FB
  1. Yes we do go to the same school and she's in the same class as a friend but (even though i've tried) i've never bumped into her before.
  1. I am genuinely so sorry for having used the term "girl" but at lest now I know what a jibe is!

Thanks for the help, keep it coming! Grin

For god's sake, some of you above really need a slap, so what if he's not a mum or she's not a mum; does it bloody matter, he's asking for advice not a slagging, grow up, he's probably more mature than most of you lot.

Give her another text, as has been said OP, she may genuinely forgot you text her back.

Holly3434 · 01/03/2017 17:38

You don't need to be sorry OP for calling her a girl. Contact her again. Good luck

BitOutOfPractice · 01/03/2017 18:20

Yeah stop all the gibes for calling her a jirl Grin

PollytheDolly · 01/03/2017 18:28

I like the OP.

He's still here after all that haha!!!
