You've probably seen this. All over the media today.

I know it's not likely to be a popular viewpoint on MN, but I have to say there's some truth and what's being said.

LurkingHusband The issue in the Cait Reilly case was the 'workfare' style arrangement, not the job itself. In fact she said she'd have been happy to take a proper paid job there (although obvs. not her first choice). Whereas the 'adult entertainment' type jobs the jobcentre advertise are supposed to be optional to apply for, and certainly don't form part of workfare yet. So there are certain jobs that are viewed differently in that context. And morally there is certainly a case to be made for that! Frankly, I don't think people should be forced to aply for care jobs either, although that's for the benefit of the people they care for not the jobseeker!

Schnoo That's interesting, googling that thread now! I wouldn't be at all surprised if they are tightening up the rules on this. (I sound like I agree; I dont!)

Whenever something like this comes up in the press, it always makes me think that sex work/prostitution has become so much part of the status quo that we've forgotten the actual bare bones of it: by and large, it is men paying money to put their dicks into women who wouldn't (most probably) let them to it if they weren't being paid. Why legalise that?

Boom! Absolutely spot on. Entitled arses paying to use women as wanksocks.

I'd LOVE more sex thanks.

But it has not occurred to me for even a nano-second that this was something I deserve to have because I am a person who want's sex. My life will not implode without more sex. I do not deserve to exploit someone for my own regular sexual gratification. My desire for more sex isn't a trump card to be played as and when I feel like I deserve an orgasm with another person present.

CaoNiMa has nailed it. Why is this seen as normal in our society? Why are mens sexual habits prioritised so much? Its all about money and power and it needs to change.

In the name of equality, the JobCentre should also be sending unemployed men into sex work. Most of the market for their services would be from gay men I'd imagine, but that shouldn't be a problem - it's just a job, just providing a service, just get on with what you are paid to do. "You'd get health checks and would be in a safe environment and think of all the couples you would be helping and all those poor men who need sex." And after all you are a man so what could be better than being paid to have all this sex you allegedly need so desperately?

How does that scenario fit in with your worldview WhySoAngry?

Since feminism, women are more sexually empowered, have access to contraception, are free to have sex before marriage...so I don't see why feminism equals less sex? I think feminists are having more sex with more partners.

Unless she means the brand of feminism that says no to rape and forced marriage. Because I can see why some men would be put out by those feminists demanding criminal action on rape and forced marriage. And feel they can't "get" enough sex because of those restrictions. Maybe replacing those victims with trafficked women could help those guys?

Depends on whether sex is something two people consent to, or a man forces on a woman really.
