Nice to know you've been missing me, Offred, but please don't go putting words into my mouth again.
I did not seek to make a statement to the women on this board that society in general doesn't consider feminism to be a legitimate cause.
I have no idea whether society does or doesn't consider feminism to be a legitimate cause. And I was not seeking to make any statement to the women on this board about it. For the avoidance of doubt, I, personally, do consider feminism to be a legitimate cause.
My aim in posting was to draw attention to another view on prostitution - a topic which comes up with some frequency on Mumsnet. It's no surprise to me that Dr Hakim's views have been dismissed out of hand and those who visit prostitutes labelled unattractive, misogynistic and arseholes.
Yet many women post on here saying their husbands and partners want more sex than they do - which provides support for D Hakim's premise. If men were free to satisfy their needs by visiting a professional, in a regulated environment, with health checks etc, it would reduce a lot of the sexual conflict experienced by couples.
I know this isn't a popular view - but that doesn't mean it's not a valid opinion.
