hi everyone Smile

I have been single for about a year I'm 35 and all my friends and married so at a very different stage in life to me...

I'm ready to meet someone special I've tried online dating but it's just not for me.. I've tried match.com ok cupid and pof Grin had lots of response but I like funny men and it's so hard to find that through online messages..

so you wise lot what do I need to do to meet someone... I'm also feeling that at 35 I may have missed the boat Hmm
so tell me your stories of how you met your partner especially if you were over 35 Wink

(or alternatively if anyone has any single male friends send them my way)

31st October 1996, I was 27, he was 39. In a nightclub in Rochdale.

HennaFlare · 28/10/2014 16:13

Met at 18 through his sister. Didn't start dating until we were 21. Now 33, married 9 years with 3 kids.

seagull70 · 28/10/2014 16:13

I was 17 (just) he was 24. We met at a party and he shagged me senseless that night was very attentive Wink

We have been together 26 years, married for 18 and have 4 children.

I fancy him today just as much as I ever did and he is the funniest, kindest person I have ever met Smile

I was 16 he was 14. He was my neighbours best mate and we immediately clicked. Tried dating but I was doing A levels and him GCSE's so too much of a maturity gap back then. Stayed close friends then got together properly when I was 21 and him 19 and immediately lived together given our previous years of close friendship. Married after 3.5 years of living together.

Met on Eharmony...

WienerDiva · 28/10/2014 16:46

We had both just turned 16, both illegally in a nightclub. He recognised me from a 6th form open evening. Been together 14 years, married 6, dd(4). I'm a very lucky lady, but then again, he's a lucky man!!

SweetErmengarde · 28/10/2014 17:16

I was 24, DH was 20 and we met because I was dating his friend (well, a guy who was on the periphery of his circle of friends; DH didn't actually like him that much - that should have been a clue!)

I actually remember thinking that DH disliked me because he didn't banter with me the way the rest of the guys did. We got to know each other over the next couple of years in group settings and eventually became very good platonic friends. A year or so later, I split with the ex (who had well and truly shown his twatty, abusive colours) and DH and I got together.

Not suggesting you tolerate a wanker indefinitely to get to his friends, but it is good to widen your network, as even if you don't fancy someone, they might introduce you to someone who does do it for you.

17, at a Halloween party..been together 27 years.

  1. I was out at the pub with my then-boyfriend and his friends from work. I was insufferably bored and our relationship had run its course by then.

Glancing around, I noticed this really sexy, handsome guy at the bar and couldn't stop looking at him. He was looking at me too. Later that night, he strolled over to our table and introduced himself to me right in front of my giggling boyfriend. I told him my name and that was about it.

Three weeks later, I had a friend request from Facebook from him. I have a fairly unusual name so it was easy for him to find me. We chatted online for a bit; about inane stuff really. When I finally had the balls to dump my then-boyfriend two weeks later, we started flirting and finally arranged a date.

3 years on and I still can't stop looking at him!

prettyfiestyforasmallone · 28/10/2014 18:47

My best friend said I need to "put myself out there" so I might give online dating another go...

I was 43, he was 38 and we 'met' on OKC. I also wanted a funny man and he literally made me howl with laughter after a fortnight of nightly IMs we had our first date. He was my first and only date from there. Four years on and we're exactly the same daft arses, getting married next year Smile

crabwoman · 28/10/2014 19:16

I was 20, he was 22. He'd just graduated and was working that summer in a coffee shop. I walked in one day, and he was helping my mother with a crossword!! Blush
3 cities, 6 houses,10 years and two kids later, we are still as happy as Larry!

The only fly in my ointment is my mother, who harps on about it at every opportunity, 'ooo I knew he was the one for you the moment I met him' etc.
Apparently she engineered the whole thing! (The annoying this is, she probably did!)
