I've arranged to go out with 2 friends next Sat evening, (this will be the 1st time in 18months!!) we are going to start at the pub and go onto a nightclub. We are aged 32, 32, and 40.
I would perfer to go to a place for over 25 in age but am struggling to find one close enough!
Dh then said to me we will have a combined age of over 100 and we will look silly!! He went on to say we should stick to having a meal at the indian restaurant!!
He doesn't go out with his friends even to the pub but he is happy not to and is more "homely" than me I suppose.
Do you think he's right, I mean I used to see women in their 50's (rarely I suppose) when I was younger and thought it was great and would have liked my mum to have been out with me someimes!!

go for it...just one word of advice though.... I wouldn't get up and dance....If you are anything like me, the ability to dance was lost when I became a parent. Its a weird side effect...

Twiglett · 01/10/2006 09:11

oh god the thought of going to a nightclub now fills me with abject horror

I think I grew out of them .. and I do remember being in my 20's and seeing 'older' people in clubs and them being objects of fun and ridicule .. sorry not being harsh that's just the way it was 20 years ago

I think times have changed immensely but that's probably where your DH's mind-set is stuck

I think if you WANT to go you SHOULD go and you should have a bloody good time too

inmyopinion · 01/10/2006 09:59

i am 21 and i sometimes go clubbing with my work friends that are 30, 35 and 40 and its like going out with people that are the same age as me, they are great fun, have amazing style and no word of a lie i forget they are not 20 odd like me!! go for it, have a great night and dont listen to your Dh, hes just jealous!i think its great going out with older people, they know how to have a better time in my opinion!

scoobytwo · 01/10/2006 10:39

me&my dp still go clubbing about once every 3 months&id never be too old to go(im 32 dp 36)and we certainly dont feel out of place, you carry on

Thomcat · 01/10/2006 10:53

My DPis a DJ, we live in London, and we go out all the time.
There may be a couple of clubs that are known for having younger crowds but it wouldn't cross my mind to worry about it.

I'm 35 and my mates are around the same age and older. In fact most of our DJ mates are in their 40's. One our bestest mates who is a DJ is 47. I don't think about it. I've never ever been to a club and thought, God I feel old. I feel old for the following 3 days after a big night out (!), but never ever in the club. None of my lot are anywhere near ready to stop going out, it's what we do, it's who we are.

We love dance music, and we love havin it, end of.

I did say to a mate once, do you think there'll come a time when we are too ld for this. We sat there in silence for a bit, then looked at each other and grinned, burst out laughing and got back into the crowd on the dancefloor again and continued to have it for the next 4 hours!

Your 32 for christssake, your in your prime, this is exactly when you should be clubbing. Best years of your life. Just laugh at him and tell him to stop being old before his time. Go and have a great one

Thomcat · 01/10/2006 10:57

Twigglet, what sort of clubs are you talking about?

The clubs I go to in London, I never ever feel like the oldest person there,in fact, I'd go as far to say that a 18/20 year old and think, blimey, you look a bit young!

Most of the DJs are well into their 40's.

I'm not talking about DJ Derek and his mobile disco you can hire out for your wedding or barmitspha, I'm talking serious DJs who get paid £2k + for a nights work.

SpaceCadet · 01/10/2006 13:05

dont do clubs, never have done really, however theres no age limit on going clubbing, if you want to go, go, and enjoy yourself.

spook · 01/10/2006 13:11

Erm Cod...I go clubbing regularly and especially in Ibiza and I am certainly NOT Stringfellow like Uuuggghh-the thong.
I'm 40 in March and never in a million years would it occur to me that I am too old to be there.
And as TC pointed out-in a decent club the DJ's are probably older than me anyway.
You go for it Happyface. You'll have a ball!

Blossomhill · 01/10/2006 13:12

Go out at least once every two months and love it.
Actually not sure when I will ever feel too old tbh.
Was out last night in my leopard print halter neck and had a fantastic time

Go for it, you are only young once and age is nothing but a number.

I for one am not ready to stop going out and sit indoors with my slippers and knitting needles for quite some time yet!

inmyopinion · 01/10/2006 13:14

i dont think you should care what anyone thinks..if they are too bothered to care then they arent having a very good time themselves....go go go go go!!!!!! if youre young at heart who cares when your birthday is!

SueW

I live in a town where there are no clubs (or a cinema come to think of it) but I know of several places like this in a couple of towns near here. They are exactly as you describe and they're all out of the same generic mould.

On a more general level I'd like to know why such establishments were given planning permission to set themselves up in the High Street or in the middle of the shopping centre (as is the case in the other town I am thinking of). I can only assume they earn their councils much needed revenue.

QueenEagle · 01/10/2006 14:14

dh and me went out on Friday night. Started off in our local town then headed out to a fantastic gay nightclub near Milton Keynes. Had a really fab night - all the gay guys are brilliant dancers and 3 of them danced with me - it was fab!

btw dh is 39 and I'm 36 - dh is the first to admit he is a crap dancer but I still love to boogie the night away with the best of them!

If you like going, then YOU GO GIRL!!

QueenEagle · 01/10/2006 14:18

Mind you, 2 days later I feel bloody old. Getting in at 3.30am then having toddlers wake you at 6.30 is enough to put you off going very often!

LittleSarah · 01/10/2006 14:34

If you enjoy it then you should go!

I am 24 and haven't been to a decent nightclub in ages, would like too!

Last week went to a party, was alright, but woke up the next morning fully dressed on my sofa... and not feeling too pleasant...

MadamePlatypus · 01/10/2006 14:48

? I am 35 and wouldn't think twice about going to a nightclub on a girls' night out. Probably go out to a nightclub about twice a year on this kind of occasion, but have never felt 'old'. Presumably you are going to have a good time with your friends, not to pull, so why could you possibly be classed as sad?

NotSoUselessMum · 01/10/2006 15:09

you want to go? go girl!! I'm sure you'll have a good time, and if you don't there will always the curry for the next time!

I'm 32 and haven't been in a club in ages and would not want to go. But that's only because I've done them all (the ones with the good DJs TC was talking about) when I was in my prime and had enough.
I'd rather go for a curry now TBH.

Thomcat · 01/10/2006 16:33

Cod - pmsl at the Stringfellows thing. You really have no idea mate, bless you. You stick in with the disney channel love there's a good girl

I'm so not taling about cheesy clubs with velvet cushioning and bad pop / 80's music, the sort of Hollywoods in Essex style club. Or what was the one I went to when I was - Charlie Chan's- that's it. Yeah go somewhere like that when you're in your 40's and it's worrying.

But if you like dance music then the only place to really hear it is by going to a decent club and hear it played by a decent DJ who can mix and take you on a musical journey. If you're not into that sort of music you wouldn't understand. It's like going to a concert if you're into ...I dunno... the Rolling Stones or Take That, or Rod Stewart or something. I love dance music, as do all my close mates and my DP and we go clubbing to hear the music we like get played and get played well. I'm so not too old for that at 35 years young and I'm so not growing out of it in the forseeable future.

But even if you're not into house music and want to go out to a cheesy club once in a while and get pissed and dance like an orangutang on speed, then bloody go for it.

Jesus, plenty of time to rest when you're dead. Get out and have fun while you still can. Whoi gives a shit if one person thinks 'ohhh you're a bit too old to be here', WHATEVER, as long as you're not hurting anyone and having a laugh. Life is too short, party hard, party long. I'll take up tapestry when I'm 75, actually maybe 80, but till then, I'll never stop dancing

In fact I'm going to put some tunes on now in the front room (proper vinyl) and me and DD1 are going to wave our arms in the air, shout 'tuuuuune' and giggle loads.

See ya!
