Feeling mystified. PIL are somehwat from a different planet anyhow but they have presented me for my birthday with... a home chocolate fondue fountain. I mean in what alternative universe might I use such a thing? In the one where I don't have three small children and a f/t job and a crumbly overcrowded house? Where I give gracious dinner parties of a sort where a chocolate fountain would be a feature (or maybe carkey parties??!) Where we we use the silver grape scissors that dP got for his birthday...
Anybody wanna buy a home chocolate fondue fountain?

Your kids would love it, though- you could bring it out on special occasions. I went to a wedding recently where a choc fountain was one of the features- it was very popular with the kids and adults alike.

Carmenere · 06/04/2006 10:21

Aw I think that is quite sweet, as in it's something ridiculously indulgent that you would never buy for yourself. It's a treat, enjoy it.

krabbiepatty · 06/04/2006 10:22

What they hey is a wine butler? Tissy, it's not a bad point, maybe I could use it for child b'day parties if i can fidn somewhere for it to live. Perhaps it could be used as something else in the meanwhile - a spittoon or an outsize vase...

appaently choclate fountains are all the rage at the moment.

I'd kill anyone who bought me one though.
Choc fountain + any child = disaster

lummox · 06/04/2006 10:23

hey, happy birthday.

guess it's the thought that you might be the kind of person who would want a chocolate fondue thingy that counts?

wilbur · 06/04/2006 10:24

Yes, it would be good for kids parties if you can find space for it. Or you can hire it out to other people for theirs and make some cash! I am, however, pmsl about the silver grape scissors.

wilbur · 06/04/2006 10:25

I don't know what a wine butler is either.

lummox · 06/04/2006 10:27

how did you know they were for grapes?

krabbiepatty · 06/04/2006 10:27

Yes, can see all the children at the party ending up with third degree chocolate burns, back to the spittoon idea. Thanks Lummox - my email is not working for some reason. I think my mouth hung open for several days after the persentation opf the grape scissors...

I think they must have been for grapes as were not sharp enough to cut anything else at all, also I seem to remember some viney type decorations on the handle...

maybe they are trying to make up for the fact that you have never allowed them to buy things from a wedding list at John Lewis?

if it is avocado forks next year i am definitely right.

krabbiepatty · 06/04/2006 10:31

Actually lummox, it occurs to me that I owe you a present and I just happen to ahve this home chocolate fondue fountain...

lummox · 06/04/2006 10:36

tempting, but think you have to keep it and do a ceremonial chocolate fountain event with PIL at least once (which I think you should video btw)

am quietly coveting the grape scissors though. have always found it tricky to get grapes without some sort of complex tool to help me.

krabbiepatty · 06/04/2006 10:40

And it's just so unseemly when you see someone just rip grapes off with their bare fingers, ugh, makes me feel quite sick just thinking about it. Am going to get you your own...

lummox · 06/04/2006 10:42

but on the other hand, they could have baby's eye out.

(someone has to think of the children)

krabbiepatty · 06/04/2006 10:44

You will force me to purchase a wine butler...

quanglewangle · 06/04/2006 10:49

Grape scissors are for thinning bunches of grapes on the vine as they develop so you get fatter grapes.

If that is what they are, maybe you can look forward to a grape vine as your next presie...

Followed by a winery.... Grin

lummox · 06/04/2006 10:49

hmmm, a wine butler. would he do other things as well?

SparklyGothKat · 06/04/2006 10:50

mmmmmmmm chocolate fountion......... Grin my mum has one and we borrow it when SIL came down, it was yummy.......

allover · 06/04/2006 17:46

sorry I would love a chocolate fountain, it's something we'd use at weekends (both work FT so would be the only time) they are great for strawberries and mallows, and a great way to get the kids to eat fruit, does the chocolate get that hot ????

LaSenora · 06/04/2006 17:48

are you kidding? you can honestly find no use at all for a home choc thingy (never mind what type of thingy!). mmmm chocolate.

apparently women who eat lots of choc during pregnancy have happier babies.

BudaBabe · 06/04/2006 18:04

Yum - choc dipped strawberries!! You ungrateful thing!!!

MIL once bought my DH (her step-son) a comb for Xmas (lots of little pressies and that was one).

He's bald.

Has been since he was about 18.

We thought she'd noticed!

motherinferior · 06/04/2006 18:31

Hey, happy birthday!

And have you had a baby? What a surprise Grin.
