Would you go to a wedding when you don't know anyone?

Apart from your (new ish - 7 months) boyfriend? He's an usher at his friend's wedding from a different part of the country and therefore I've never met any of his friends from there. Ive never even met the bride or groom!

I went to a wedding last year where I knew nobody apart from the couple, as a mutual friend had to pull out last minute. I'm shy by nature, but didn't want to let them down, so I took a deep breath, plucked up all my courage, and spent a whole evening talking to people I never met in my life. Eek!

It was a good evening and I found that, once people realised I was alone at the party, they made a real effort to chat to me and get me drinks and seats.

It's arrived, it fits, and it looks lovely if I do say so myself :)

Go and enjoy.
The dress is lovely and I am green with envy at your dress size.
I was born bigger than that!

catsrus · 08/08/2012 17:15

it's lovely and you'll be fine Smile. I find talking to the oldies is easiest, if there are any grannies of the bride and groom there who are chair-bound you can always offer to get them a drink etc. You can always have a secret signal with your boyfriend that you need rescuing from a boring encounter too Grin Though I once "rescued" my new dp from someone at a party where he didn't know anyone - she was the world's most boring individual - and he was furious as she was the one person he'd clicked with I wish I'd paid more attention to that fact before I married him Blush

That is a beautiful dress!
Enjoy the day - nice list of conversation openers from toomuchmoney
Got a vaguely similar scenario on Sunday - but not as organised as you - and will be sorting out my outfit on Saturday Grin

I can't wait to hear all about your lovely weekend!

OhEmGee24 · 09/08/2012 16:42

Thanks ladies! Just packing my weekend bag. Got a nice BBQ on the beach to look forward to tomorrow night with my dp before the wedding on Saturday. Dd is going to my parents in the morning, 2 nights free from a 2year old - ahhhh!!

Yay Smile. Have a great time!

OhEmGee24 · 13/08/2012 09:07

Well it was a wonderful weekend Smile. All of dp's friends and their wives and girlfriends were lovely. I've swapped numbers with lots of the girls and we have a girly night out together already in the diary! I got lots of lovely compliments of my dress (may consider uploading a pic if anyone cares!). Dp must have been taken by the occasion and was overly romantic all weekend. Whilst waiting for the bride to arrive he took me to a quiet corner of the church grounds and said "I'd really love this to be us soon" and spelled out "I love you" in the table confetti Blush. Lots of drunken dancing but I lasted in my heels for 13 hours Grin. Fab weekend all round. Happy Me!

Cool! Delighted it went so well. The next wedding you go to might be your own! Wink

moanymandy · 13/08/2012 22:43

I met my best friend at a wedding. She was the best mans new girlfriend and didn't know anyone. I also didn't really know anyone. We clicked and 4 years later I'm going to be her bridesmaid in the autumn and she's being mine in feb!
Go for it I'm sure you will have a great time! Smile

moanymandy · 13/08/2012 22:44

Just read the end of the thread! Glad you went and had fun! Smile

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 13/08/2012 23:10

OhEmGee24 · 14/08/2012 08:13

That's lovely moandy Smile congratulations to both couples!

We are definitely upping the seriousness of our relationship as we are buying a house together with our dd. So so excited!

I'm glad you had such a lovely time at the wedding. I don't want to piss on your parade, but you said in your OP you have been together for 7 months - buying a house together is a huge financial commitment very expensive to un do. Hope that you aren't being carried away by the exciting romance of it all, thats all.

OhEmGee24 · 14/08/2012 09:28

Yes we are both old and ugly enough to realise the implications but thanks. We're just in the looking stages, realistically it won't be until around February. We both know this is it, we're in love and we are looking forward to a future together.
