DH 'doing Sunday dinner easily' so I can watch Wimbledon GRRRR

My DH always prepares the veg for Sunday dinner. I always cook Sunday dinner. I don't mind, but it irritates me when he thinks it's "just a case of bunging the pans on" and doesn't appreciate that I am tied to the kitchen for an hour or so, timing and juggling yorkshires, roast spuds etc etc.
Anyway today he is cooking lunch so I can watch tennis (1 set all at the moment!! I'm on my iPhone). He has put the beef and spuds in the oven and gone to play on the Xbox. The kitchen is full of smoke. The roasties are getting a bit black! I've gone as far as to open the back door.
They are nearly ready but he hadn't yet put the mash or veg on. I just asked him when he put the stuff in the oven and he said "ten minutes ago" - he had lost track of time hee hee.
My dilemma is - do I take over and go into the kitchen, missing the tennis OR leave him to it, let it burn and be a smug cow???

what a faff have a sandwich

WitchOfEndor · 08/07/2012 16:13

Let it burn.

JustFabulous · 08/07/2012 16:15

Let it burn but don't be smug about it.

scrablet · 08/07/2012 16:16

depends how much you want your dinner.Grin

WinstonWolf · 08/07/2012 16:18

You have roasts and mash? Shock

Spuddybean · 08/07/2012 16:18

I would let it burn.

Do you have roast spuds AND mashed spuds?!

MushroomSoup · 08/07/2012 16:18

Ha ha ha he's grinning at me round the door;
"we're not doing Yorkshire puddings today are we?"
I said, "what do you mean, WE?!"

Depends.

Do you have other food in the house, or live somewhere that a takeaway is an option?

As long as you're not going to starve, ignore him and watch the tennis.

Why is it necessary to have "Sunday dinner" every Sunday anyway? I agree with AnyFucker. What a faff.

MushroomSoup · 08/07/2012 16:19

We have EVERYTHING. Beef, yorkshires, little bit of mash, couple of roasties, carrots, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, peas - it's a Bonanza Dinner in our house!

OP posts:
GnocchiNineDoors · 08/07/2012 16:20

Sunday dinner is flawed without yorkshires.

MushroomSoup · 08/07/2012 16:21

I know AnyFucker is fab and writes a lot of sense but she hasn't even commented on here!!!

Spuddybean · 08/07/2012 16:21

eewwww i couldn't imagine a roast with mash too - totally wrong texture imo

Yes, tell him, if you have beef - you must have yorkshires. It is the law.

JustFabulous · 08/07/2012 16:21

We had our Sunday dinner yesterday. Kids will probably get fish fingers today.

JustFabulous · 08/07/2012 16:22

Trills? Confused

PissyDust · 08/07/2012 16:22

It's not Sunday dinner without yorkies.

I would take over but I am a control freak and I'm the only one that cooks in this house!

LeB0f · 08/07/2012 16:23

I know Grin

Sounds great- I'd get out there and talk him through it if he is just clueless. They are having a break for rain anyway.

What time do I need to be at yours for?

Spuddybean · 08/07/2012 16:23

Do you all have yorkshires if you have meat other than beef then? Shock

HermioneE · 08/07/2012 16:24

Leave him to it and let him set the smoke alarm off!

Trills · 08/07/2012 16:25

Yeah, not sure what happened there. Apologies to AnnaMosity - I saw the comment and the A and just figured it was the right sort of thing...

JustFabulous · 08/07/2012 16:26

Gin Trills.

We have Yorkshires when we fancy them, we don't have beef and life is grey without Yorkshire puds!

MushroomSoup · 08/07/2012 16:26

I must admit I mostly do yoshies (as the DCs call them) because my ASD DS loves them and so it makes him love me just a little bit more!

I am sure Anyfucker would be talkinge sense Grin

leave him to it.

MushroomSoup · 08/07/2012 16:27

UPDATE: just been into the kitchen due to the rain. He doesn't want any help!

DP is cooking ours at the moment- cheap Aldi chicken here, beef is a bit pricey for every week, so no yorkies necessary. We don't have two types of spud either, but chuck carrots and onion in to roast with them, and bung chipolatas in near the end. Peas and buttered boiled carrots, stuffing if we can be bothered, but not today. Ooh, I'm hungry now.

PurplePidjin · 08/07/2012 16:28

Let him fuck up deal with it, then bask in the glory and gratitude next week :o
