Backstory. I have been divorced for a couple of years. No dates. No interest in dates. Never fancy anyone. Went to a party two nights ago and took a fancy to someone. Most extraordinary.

He is someone I do very occasion work for (but had only ever communicated via email.)

We chatted. I asked him lots of questions because I am kind of gauche and hopeless. He (I think) felt a bit got at but was also adorably cute and friendly.

So, can I send a "lovely to meet you, great working for you" kind of email? I mean, kind of pointless I know but blah blah...I told you it was teenagerish.

If I didn't fancy him, I would have done it by now - in a networking way.

Yeah, send him an email (if you are sure he is single).

If he was "cute and friendly" with you, there is a chance he was flattered by your attentions and would welcome you making a first move

If not, and you have kept it light, there is nothing lost

His response will give you your cue

Good luck Smile

Thank you, AF. Single. Hmm. Interesting. I think he is divorced or at least separated because there was some gossip of a wife who left him. But he might have a girlfriend.

I could make a total tit of myself and ring up a friend who knows him better and who always knows every iota of gossip going.

This is just me, but I would make sure he is single first

Apart from the fact it reduces your attempt to show interest in him that is other than professional less likely to leave you with egg on your face, it's the sisterly thing to do

nkf · 30/06/2012 09:03

I know what you mean. I think I will pretend I don't fancy him and send a networking type email. Then I will forget about it - unless he makes a move.

I would send a "Nice putting a face to a name" email. Could lead to more communications but professional enough if things don't progress on a personal/emotional level.

AnyFucker · 30/06/2012 09:06

Hey, I didn't mean to put you off !

Finding out if he is single simply means better chance of success and you could quite happily be rather flirty instead of just professional. Come back !

nkf · 30/06/2012 09:29

Okay. Have typed up wording in draft. Shall send it and then forget about it. Chances are he was just being friendly to his freelancers. Gah!

Have now sent it and am ready to stop being 15 and start acting like a rational adult.

nkf · 30/06/2012 09:51

Unless, of course, he writes back....

Fuckitthatlldo · 30/06/2012 09:52

Oooh I hope he does Smile

nkf · 30/06/2012 09:53

I know. Then I can analyse his email to death. Line by line. And show it to all my friends and ask them what they think it means.

I thought I was over this stuff for good. :0

no ! Show it to us Wink

nkf · 30/06/2012 11:19

Sent email and then, oddly enough, a delivery messenger with stuff for a very enjoyable work project. Very nice card though no protestations of undying love. Alas. But at least I haven't queered my work pitch.

Now think my email might have been a bit gushy but as my old granny used to say, when it comes to men, lay it on with a trowel.

So, girls (please bear with me) do I reply to his card and work or wait for his reply to my email? Or do I get a life?

AF, you'll be the first to see it.

Oooh another one marking her place
I like a good romance me Smile

skyebluesapphire · 30/06/2012 22:54

Sounds interesting... Hope he replies to the email!

nkf · 01/07/2012 07:57

He did reply! Within about half an hour. Yay! But I think it's probably where it will end. I wil continue to do a bit of work for the company and so we'll exchange emails and it will end there.

Oh brilliant! You could always ask him if he fancies a coffee some time...

KatieScarlett2833 · 01/07/2012 09:22

He sent you a card?

He replied to your text quickly?

He was funny and cute?

Go for it missus.

Greatauntirene · 01/07/2012 09:37

nkf, even if this comes to nowt it's nice to know the feelings are still there under the surface, perhaps they will bubble up for others who you feel are more accessible.

nkf · 01/07/2012 09:38

I agree. It's good to feel something.

Rindercella · 01/07/2012 09:45
