So Fucking Angry at what this man on a dating website just messaged me

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow · 27/05/2012 22:35

I am on a dating website and i messaged a man who lives near me to say hi and how come he didn't come to the singles meet-up we had in our area the week before as I'd have noticed him.

He messaged me back to say he'd have noticed me too and that the sprout pickers uniform would have been a dead-giveaway.

he specifically states on his profile that he is a good man Angry - yes he does - he actually says that

Agree with bighairyflowers, tell him you now understand why he's single if that's his response.

You've had a luck escape there. Imagine if you'd met up with him and had to put up with that shit for an hour.

lumbago · 27/05/2012 22:53

ROAR at area having more sprouts.
My mate used to work in a parsnip factory. Colleagues were NAILS

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 27/05/2012 22:53

I like the 'so thats why you are still single reposte'
Do it!
Text it now and let us know what he says.

Dont take it personally, the man is a charmless nerk (as Norman Stanley Fletcher would say)

scottishmummy · 27/05/2012 22:53

if that upsets you
wait til someone asks to see photo of minge

issey6cats · 27/05/2012 23:08

bogeyface · 27/05/2012 23:13

"Well thats why I mentioned it, I thought I might have seen you at work!"

TadWorried · 27/05/2012 23:23

It's humour nothing more ....

Just reply saying if you had noticed him before you would have immediatly rejected him as hes clearly a Turnip and not a Spout.

Hope it works out well for you two!

CallieJ · 27/05/2012 23:24

Sprouts are lovely!!

yellowraincoat · 27/05/2012 23:26

Wow, scottishmummy, I rarely agree with anything you post, but I just about pissed myself at "a sproutland in joke".

He's clearly rude or has a different sense of humour to you OP, be glad you found that out before you went out with him.

TuftyFinch · 27/05/2012 23:28

What do sprout pickers wear? Do they even have a uniform? Is it different to a potato picker's uniform?

CallieJ · 27/05/2012 23:32

I think they wear green Tufty in case they scare the sprouts Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/05/2012 23:33

I used to have a job as a tomato picker and grader. Where does that put me in the league, please?

Popoozle · 27/05/2012 23:34

No sprout pickers in this area either - only asparagus.

I'd reply with either the "so that's why you're single" or "yes, I thought I recognised you from work" as suggested above Grin.

Hopefully it was some sort of attempt at a joke and he just isn't very good at jokes.

OP please dont take that personally use responses like that to filter out the arseholes. he is clearly a dickhead and now you know you wont need to waste anytime getting to know him better before finding out. see it as a good thing that he is so upfront about being a twat, you could even go as far as to thank him for letting you know from the off. Wink

solidgoldbrass · 27/05/2012 23:40

What's actually wrong with being a sprout picker? It's better than being unemployed, after all.

CallieJ · 27/05/2012 23:43

Nowt unless you're a sprout

hk78 · 27/05/2012 23:47

lincolnshire?

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 27/05/2012 23:48

my DH calls me a spud shoveller as I am rather peasant-like in stature. It's not such a bad thing!

ProcrastinateWildly · 27/05/2012 23:49

is this you, op?

QuickLookBusy · 27/05/2012 23:50

There's nothing wrong with being a sprout picker, but he obviously thinks there is.

swampster · 27/05/2012 23:55

Perhaps his wife sent the message.

Rowanhart · 28/05/2012 00:04

Is he not just making a joke about tell tale signs you are local? Our biggest employer is anissan so if someone said the Nissan overalls are a giveaway?

It's sometimes easy to read things wrong....

Proudnscary · 28/05/2012 07:10

Why is anyone advising you to reply Confused??

Why would you reply to some random twat who's said something that's offended you?

Why would you bother to try to find the humour in it and battle on?

Have dignity, delete and ignore.

QuietTiger · 28/05/2012 07:22

Just message him back and say "at least it's a sprout pickers uniform and not a wankers uniform like the one you seem to be wearing". Then delete and ignore.
