Relationship with more than one partner where all parties are aware. Thoughts ?

pictish · 20/05/2012 01:25

Good in theory.
Most likely will end in tears.

FedUpCantKickoff · 20/05/2012 01:28

Thanks for your response.

If it works why not?

I would say it would need to be more than awreness though. A multi-partner relationship requires honest assessment about how you would actually cope with it and what it would entail - is is one man and you just 'get on' with the OW or is it a real 3some with all parties having a relationship with the other. 1 woman, 2 men involved/not involved w/ each other. Or all the other various ways these things can work.
The problem always seems to be 1 person has never really been ok with it and when things change, particularly with babies, then resentment starts.
But there are as many legitimate relationships of this model that do work really well for all concerned as there are ones that flounder.
To be quite frank I don't see it as any different from dealing with the pitfalls of any relationship.
I think the people that have them just realise how you can apply the growth of love to an adult and include that - just because you love more than one person doesn't equal loving either less than the other.

The time it is wrong is when there is deceit or it is in any way nonconsensual or forced.
If it suits all of you then why not? The bigger the happy family the better as far as I'm concerned. I have no issues with communes etc either.
I've never understood all the bigotry and judgment around relationships - no mixed race marriage, gay people can't marry, you cant marry beneath you, you musn't admit you find both sexes attractive - etc. I think it is a universal problem that personal choices are restricted and human rights infringed due to religious and political views of the time. That spills over into what we see as 'right' with relationships.
Forced polygamy - this is the same thing but in the opposite direction really.

If it makes you happy and does no harm then why is it wrong? I'm all for spreading the love. In fact I would go as far as to say if the right person came along then I wouldn't be averse to the conversation tbh.

FedUpCantKickoff · 20/05/2012 01:53

Thanks for that. Have had so much aggro

Wtf does that mean??

OP posts:
NicNocJnr · 20/05/2012 02:13

Eh? Either LBI knows you and isn't amused or is insane!

Have you been caught doing something verboten OP?!

NicNocJnr · 20/05/2012 02:14

Oops sorry x posted!

NicNocJnr · 20/05/2012 02:18

Oh OP just been elsewhere LBI is a twat and is being a pita everywhere. Apologies for prev posts. Didn't expect such a cock to be up this far past bed time.

FedUpCantKickoff · 20/05/2012 02:19

Nothing verboten. Just looked that word up and it's really offensive. I've not hurt or lied to anyone.
This is the kind of reaction that occurs though.

OP posts:
FedUpCantKickoff · 20/05/2012 02:21

Ok. Going to ignore -the- -twat- them then.

OP posts:
NicNocJnr · 20/05/2012 02:22

Seriously LBI has been dicking around everywhere and managed and has just told a thread talking about onsies that LBI will rape them so make of that what you will I hardly think enough thought went in to your actual situation for you to take heed tbh.

Apologies if I offended, I shall leave you to your night then.

FedUpCantKickoff · 20/05/2012 02:31

No. You didn't offend. Thought it was funny. Was shocked at what LBI said though.
Thanks for your post though. Like I said, have had stick from people who are not in the situation.

OP posts:
NicNocJnr · 20/05/2012 02:37

Sorry I obviously misunderstood and just worried I had offended you.

Did you want to talk about it?
Is there someone that's giving you a lot of flack or is it just general dealing with people that are feeling quite judgy?

AngelNanny · 20/05/2012 02:43

Was unaware that donkeys could punch. They don't have fists! Haha kids never think logically

Empusa · 20/05/2012 02:44

As long as all parties are happy I can't see the problem. Pretty certain there are other posters in the same kind of relationship on here, so hopefully they'll be along soon with advice.

Hahaha so dumb. Perhaps those are fists at the bottom of my legs! Some people can be so mouthy in words anonymously. I'm just pleased that the police can track posts left so they can catch the culprits. Spoke to a lovely officer.

FedUpCantKickoff · 20/05/2012 03:03

Both nnj.

FedUpCantKickoff · 20/05/2012 03:03

People just can't get their heads around it.

OP posts:
FedUpCantKickoff · 20/05/2012 03:04

They say things like "well, I couldn't do it" so I say "I'm not asking you to"

OP posts:
FedUpCantKickoff · 20/05/2012 03:06

OW and I get on well. Have coffee together etc. Respect each other.

Empusa · 20/05/2012 03:08

Good response! People just like to be judgemental, and can't seem to help evaluating things on whether it'd be right for them (rather than what is right for you).

NicNocJnr · 20/05/2012 03:17

If you are getting on well together and no one is in a position of dealing with it so as not to lose the other partner then who gives a tinkers?!

Some people are emphatically opposed to it and refuse to have an open mind.
Some people just genuinely don't get it and some people may just be concerned that it actually isn't the happy arrangement it seems. Some people might just be all think of the children [rollseyes]

If you are all happy then what's the bother? Unfortunately you're in a situation that many people find themselves in for various reasons and it may help to pull together and work out a script that you all agree on if one of you is having more bother than the others. Or continue as you are!
If you are happy to spread a little education around then great but you don't have to justify yourself to anyone.

FedUpCantKickoff · 20/05/2012 08:28

The thing is, there are other countries where polygamy is practiced, and you get the women fighting etc. and also look
