My Husband went to Hooters

Not sure when or on how many occasions but almost certainly on business trip.

It came up in conversation last night, not sure how but for some reason I asked him whether he had ever been and his reaction was 'of course'

He is a 48 year old, highly educated married man with 4 children including a daughter who is late teens.

I can understand that on business trips it would be easy to feel under pressure to follow the crowd ( in his case, a large group of predominantly male, middle aged engineers) but it still bothers me and his casual reaction to it bothers me even more.

I agree elephants however If people want to work there or visit there then thats up to them, I really can't be that arsed at the moment to try and argue with some of the people on this thread. My point is that it is not my 'thing' and I thought my DH would understand this and agree it wasn't his 'thing' either. Like I said - thank god this happened years ago because our family has been on quite a 'journey' over the past few years (without going into too many details) and for these reasons it would much more innapropriate for him to go.

Cogito - what about Hooters, Knobs and Knockers?

A restaurant where fattening American food is served by waiting staff with beautiful big noses and your choice of big boobs or big willies?

We could go into business together :o

There is a sporting goods chain in the US which emphasises its interest in the huntin', shootin' and fishin' market called...............Dick's.

I 'm sorry I am temporarily unable to continue due to an attack of the vapours................

They may have been asked to sign a waiver, I have no idea. But I'm sure they play on the whole thing, and prob get massive tips for doing so!

When I went, our Hooter girl put the pad on the table, so write leaning forward, so we did get a bit of an eyeful! But then I also saw one sit down to take the order from a group of men, which was all def more friendly than sexy!

Chopstheduck · 04/04/2012 16:13

Ive never heard of wet tshirt comps neither. The one we went to had rollerskating wait staff at certain times, nothing about wet tshirts or anything.

oikopolis · 04/04/2012 16:17

it's a nasty sort of place. i agree with others that it's not like a strip joint -- but it's still a nasty misogynist concept in and of itself.

OP i agree with you, his reaction is the part that irks. People do get strong-armed into going to these sorts of places, especially on business trips, but he could at least acknowledge the nastiness of the place when telling you he'd gone there.

abbs. I was on the committee that tried to get the one in Bristol closed, so I know quite a bit. I also watched Hooters family and owner on my Secret Boss USA which was meant to show the comany in the best light. When the boss asked the 'girls' to a hands behind their back bean eating contest to see who went home early the board suggested that they could help him get his career back on track.....

And we had a bikini contest here in Bristol.

My ExH worked at Hooters (as a kitchen manager) about 12 years ago, before we had kids. Unless it's changed drastically it was not an issue. It's a restaurant. Slightly pathetic choice of uniform serving a varied clientele , but staffed by students who had no 'stripper' aspirations.

Whatmeworry · 04/04/2012 20:31

And for the OP, seriously? You are upset/ annoyed by this? I think it says a lot more about you than it does him to be honest.

What she said.

Or leave the bastard.

Whatever.

Goawaybob · 04/04/2012 20:35

My DD1 goes to hooters with her paintball team every time they go to orlando - shes the honorary girl in a group of ten guys - she has a hooters T shirt, i asked her to get me one but she said they don't do them in my size - to be fair, mine would be more foghorns han hooters.

Ragwort · 04/04/2012 20:38

errrrrrr ............. you're discussing in great detail a restaurant visit your DH made 15 plus years ago - I'm amazed he has such recall (unless it wasn't really 15 years ago Grin) - have I missed something Confused.

Not wishing to add to the argument but I believe there are Hooters restaurants in the UK - possibly Nottingham - my DH said he passed one recently - no idea if he went in or not.

Ragwort it's the Nottingham one I was referring to...

akaemmafrost · 04/04/2012 21:09

byathread I had mates who were working at Hooters, Nottingham around 12 years ago and I used to go there a fair bit myself. We probably know some of the same people Smile.
