Am only asking because l am incredibly nosey l agonised over it on the last one four years ago and in the end l bottled it and it was another year before he proposed so we did get there in the end. But it just reminded me hearing about it on the radio today of how l felt then and all the pros and cons- what if he said 'no' - would our relationship survive or if he said 'yes' would l always regret not waiting for him to ask me - being old fashioned and all. Wonder my head didnt explode Grin

oh I just posted in another thread about this. I was thinking of doing it later on, but I think I'm just too nervous to do it. I have to work late, DP isn't well, the baby has a cold, we're both divorced already so what if he is totally freaked out? I want to marry him, I really do, and I don't want it to be a big deal which is just as well as he's cooking tonight and it's baked potatoes with cold chicken, woo but oh my god, what if he says no?
So I put it to you, MN, should I do it or not?

everybodysang · 29/02/2012 13:54

oh, and massive congrats, Phedre!

youarekidding · 29/02/2012 14:25

phedre congratulations Grin

Everyone else planning to ask or who thinks they'll be asked best of luck, hope it all goes great and you have happy futures.

Me? I'm single, but have 4 years to rectify that and convince someone they want to marry me! propose. Wink

Arcadie · 29/02/2012 14:56

my DSIl proposed to my DB this time 4 years ago and they've been married 2 and half years ago and have 2 kids now. How 4 years changes things.... Good luck for all considering it - I'm really glad my DSIL took the plunge as it looked like my DB was never going to! And congrats to phedre!

Woodlands · 29/02/2012 15:30

I proposed eight years ago today and we are celebrating our fifth anniversary this year! Good luck proposers!

Likesshinythings · 29/02/2012 15:36

I proposed to my DH - not on leap year though, was actually new year's eve. If I'm 100% honest, I do sometimes wish I'd waited for him to ask, since it means I won't ever get that proposal moment. Maybe I should drop a hint that he should re-propose to me on a leap day!

BalloonSlayer · 29/02/2012 17:43

justcallmemary that's a lovely story. Grin

Congrats phedre and good luck everyone else.

SherlockKnomes · 29/02/2012 18:40

What happened to the lady who was going to write it on her babies vest for her DP to find?! I want to know what happened!!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 29/02/2012 18:48

Here Sherlock!

SherlockKnomes · 29/02/2012 18:56

YAAAAY! Thank you purple

zumm · 29/02/2012 19:29

everybody - DO IT! :)

Sudaname · 29/02/2012 19:45

Very exciting all this. Just had a quick read through - OP here btw preens with self importance and dont think we've had any yes's yet 'live' as it were. I know a few of you are seriously considering it and really hope you all get a 'yes' or get beaten to it in a couple of cases by the sound of it.

My DH said at the time - after last leap year and when he got round to proposing himself - that he had actually thought of the possibility that l might and he was absolutely dreading me doing so. But only because he is very 'old school' and would rather he asked me - when he was ready. I actually asked him would he have said 'no' and he said he wouldnt have turned me down flat but would have said something along the lines of 'well not at the moment but l am sure we will get married one day' no in other words .

That's what put me off the most - as unlike some of you have young children together so already have a permanent bond - we only met in our mid forties and both our DCs already grown up. So the only 'official' type of bond we could have would be marriage. So had he turned me down and said a flat 'no - never' then l wouldnt have had 'well we're still a family, still bonded together' - to fall back on etc. l would have known at that point that what we had then was 'it' iyswim and l was really scared of having to call it a day or just having to accept that.

Sorry am rambling now - but it was a wonder my head didnt explode - as l said in OP.

Come on ladies anyway its nearly 8 o clock - who's gonna go first ?

< faints with excitement >

Congratulations Phedre!!!

Well update from me. I think he's waiting for me to ask him... ... ...

He just bought me a box of Milk Tray from the shop. Ok I know that seems trashy but UNHEARD of!!

And I've only gone and lost the ring in the house now. I really don't know what to do! Grin

MamaMimi · 29/02/2012 20:00

I asked dp in the kitchen this afternoon! But only 'cos he asked me if I was going to!! I'd forgotten that it was 29th.

But we've been together for 12 years and have 2 dds. He's asked me a couple of times before but only because we've talked about it and agreed it would be a good idea for the family and so there would be no issues should anything happen to either of us.

So, not very romantic I'm afraid ....but....i did ask....and .....he did say yes Grin

theenchantedhood · 29/02/2012 20:04

I've just found it. Swear I checked the box this morning and it wasn't there... Hmm

theenchantedhood · 29/02/2012 20:08

Yay Mamamimi!! Congratulations!!!!

MamaMimi · 29/02/2012 20:22

Thankyou.

We were thinking of later this year. Maybe 10/11/12 or 12/12/12

weblette · 29/02/2012 20:27

Congrats Mamamimi GrinGrin
Both of those dates look good Smile

jen333 · 29/02/2012 20:47

Am vaguely thinking about it .... asked him 8 years ago and he said "NO!" So perhaps I won't bother.

maddening · 29/02/2012 20:48

just popped over as saw this in discussions of the day, I asked today on ds' vest and he said yes and that it was the perfect proposal. He's chuffed I want a tiny wedding too Grin

NotAnOstrich · 29/02/2012 21:39

Congrats Mama and phedre, lovely story justcallmemary!
Have been watching maddening 's baby vest proposal thread and was so nervous all day, for her and anyone else proposing. Oh yes, me. Shock
DP and I have been together 16 years, two DCs but it was still nerve wracking. I wrote out "will you marry me?" and hung it up where we put the DC's artistic efforts. When DP came in from work, got DS to show DP his latest drawings.....he read the words....and said Yes! Very excited :)

DoctorGilbertson · 29/02/2012 21:59

ooooh how exciting, congratulations!

Sudaname · 29/02/2012 22:07

Oh how lovely - l see we have nearly counted in all the yes's. Congratulations to Mama and Phedre and Maddening - really chuffed for you all and l hope the rest report in good news soon.

BackPackBackPack · 29/02/2012 23:43
