Brazilian wax virgin - what's it like? -

Another thread on this topic prompted me to ask something always been curious about. I usually have a standard bikini wax with a strip but have to shave everywhere below that. I hate shaving/regrowth/stubble rash. So considering going for the whole lot off.

BUT ... if you have had babies, dont know about some of you oh well heck it's Mumsnet anything goes all them flaps are a little deflated these days, a little torn in places, a little missing in places (two big babies ), no perineum to speak of (where did it go? inside somewhere I think), plus I had a second degree tear no stitches and what I suspect is a small prolapse but too scared to ask Doc about that.

ANYWAY when they wax between all these flaps are you supposed to hold them taut yourself or does the beautician do it? Not that I'm sure I could taut them, a little plasticine-y yee-haa! man they can stretch for miles TMI? Sorry! I digress. HOW though do they get all that hair from right inside the crevices??

This isn't the sort of thing you can discuss with yoru sisters or friends really, is it!

I don't have bikini waxes that often, but when I do, I do wonder what the 20something beautician thinks about my 40 year old, 5 big children, natural births, flaps. Oh well.

I thought a Brazilian was the wax where a strip is left - and a Hollywood is the one where they take the whole lot off?

Not that I'm ever contemplating either - as long as the sides are nice and neat, that's enough for me!

I dont know Rafa, also unsure what it's called, but I mean the one where they leave a strip of hair abouve the pubic bone but wax off absolutely everything else below that.

I had my last brazilian before DS but they manage because they are just VERY thorough (if they're any good). Your waxer will pull apart and hold aside anything she needs to and will have her face very close to your undercarriage to make sure she gets it all. Be prepared for having hot wax spread across your bumhole. You asked!

Yes it does hurt. Try and go to someone who used hot wax as it's not as painful as strip wax. The more you get it done, the less painful it should be (Although I still find it painful but no pain, no gain)

She will tell you to pull your skin so don't worry. Hollywood is everything off.

The woman I go to is great, she directs me for some bits if needed ie holding open my bum cheeks and for the rest she does all the holding taut!

Afterwards she delves in with her tweezers for the odd straggler!

I have had an episiotomy, so have a missing 'bit' but it doesn't bother me and doesn't require any special attention!

Em, know this is not what you're asking about but seriously? You're too scared to ask a doctor about what you suspect is a prolapse but you want to go and get hair waxed off by a beautician in all your most intimate areas? Please head to the doc first.

Beautician knows what she is doing...don't worry..she'll tell you what to do...they've seen it all so don't worry!

I have all of mine whipped off and have had reconstructive surgery down there after having a prolapse - they have seen it all and really nothing really phases them - dont worry.

Make sure that you are having hot wax though and not the one with the fabric strips - makes a difference to the pain.

Women are meant to have hair there. It serves a purpose- partly to protect your bits- and it is actually more sexual as it traps pheromones.

When my mum was giving birth- 50 yrs back- it was considered barbaric by many to shave women's pubes in the delivery room- mainly to de-sexualise them and also the myth of it being "cleaner".

How the pendulum has swung so that women now do it to look "nicer"???

I think it's a conspiracy by beauty salons....I do like it, but only do it occasionally as it's too hard to maintain.

It is indeed. As long as the expectations of men are not driving that choice in a certain direction.

It is a woman's right to choose- but it's also a fad/fashion and I do think some women feel pressurised into doing something which is painful and actually goes against nature- and yes, okay you could say the same about amrpit and leg hair- but being bald "down below" is unfortunately linked to porn stars and some mens' expectations.

To answer your questions, usually the therapist will ask the client to stretch the area to preserve their modesty.

Getting all the hair removed can be quite difficult so that the client often needs to get on all fours and tweezers used.

And yes I agree get the prolapse sorted asap - otherwise it will ruin your ability to have sex.

What is a prolapse? And how do you get one?
I though it was something htat happened to weight-lifters.

I saw something about it on a television programme last night. The woman who had it was experiencing discomfort during sex and problems with pelvic floor. They did a diagram to explain it but I can't remember exactly what was said. I think having a baby can be a cause.
