... motorsport!!Shock I still can't believe that I found him watching this. In all the years that I have known him I would have sworn he simply wasn't into it and would never do this.

I feel as though I don't really know him at all. What is going on?

OP posts:

Watching alone while keeping it secret from you is one thing - and understandably hurtful. I mean, did he even bother to ask if you'd like to watch with him? No, thought not.
But if you suspect he might be watching with friends and making a night of it, getting beers in... well, then I'd be very worried. For me, that would be a complete dealbreaker.
Did you have any idea this was going on previously? Motorsport apps on his phone, perhaps, which he claims were pre-installed or downloaded by accident?

PercyPigPie · 13/06/2011 17:58

Men are different from women. Sometimes they just need the visual stimulation of wheels and motion. Have you talked to him about this?

What's his relationship with his own car like?

SuePurblybilt · 13/06/2011 17:58

scoot around the floor? Make brum brum noises? Don't degrade yourself OP.

Have you seen any signs of this affecting your children? Scalectrix? Rory the Racing Car? It's painful but you must face it. Big problems stem from Micro Hot Wheels.

God there are some hysterical women on this thread.

My husband and I have been known to watch motorsports together, and we have a happy, healthy relationship.

I admit, it's usually him who suggests it (I'd never bother to watch it by myself) but I think it's the least a wife can do for her husband.

ShowOfHands · 13/06/2011 18:05

allhail you bloody perv. We're mothers here.

CrapolaDeVille · 13/06/2011 18:09

I just asked DH is he knew what channels motorsport was on, he knew them all and the times. He even knew a number to call where a mechanic will start the cars so people can hear the engines throbbing, he promises he's never called them as he reckons it's not the real cars anyway.

You just never know, we're going to have a chat when the dcs go to bed.

Tyniclogs · 13/06/2011 18:10

Its starts with motorsport then the Pampas grass..turtle neck sweaters, abnormally coloured trousers...next you know it he's onto the harder stuff and drinking 'a smalll sherry' in the evening whilst reading the Telegraph and booking a cruise. You've been warned.

allhail, you do realise you've just been brainwashed by your other half? Do you have any idea of the oppression and exploitation that lurks behind the pretty facade of whizzy cars?
I suggest you read "CarLand; How MotorSport Has Hijacked Our Television Viewing" by Flail Whines. That should be a good starting point. HTH.

Oh God.

THE most boring sport in the world.

Empty track.
Empty track.
MmmmmmmmWOWWWWWWwwwwww (car goes by)
Empty track.
MmmmmmmmWOWWWWWWwwwwww (another car goes by)

Repeat at random.
Die of boredom.

Divorce is the only answer I'm afraid.

Tyniclogs · 13/06/2011 18:22

They start with motorpsort just a little bit now and then, they think they can handle it then they need more excitment and bigger buzz and before you know it...its, how do I say this...golf. God forbid he'd actually start playing it, then you know its over. Has he started washing the car on Saturdays or ever talk about how nice it would be to live in a cul de sac?

Tyniclogs · 13/06/2011 18:23

I read the Betterware catalogue for pleasure...hey don't judge me, I do it alone, I'm not hurting anyone.

SuePurblybilt · 13/06/2011 18:24

Golf is as bad, it ruins as many marriages. And the on-screen action is similar to the motorsport so it's a natural progression for many. Grass, sky, sky, sky, sky sky, grass. Hole (money shot). The filthy beasts.

Nip it in the bud OP. In the bud.

Yeterday's Canadian Grand Prix was fantastic - I'll get me coat!

Malificence · 13/06/2011 18:31

We are motorsport pervs in this house, we had an orgy of engine noise at the weekend - IOM TT , Le Mans, Canadian GP - DH has a man crush on Guy Martin, he wants to go and live on his barge.

SingOut · 13/06/2011 18:33

Trust you to lower the tone, Mal Wink The images I now have in my head! God almighty...

Malificence · 13/06/2011 18:34

He got me pregnant the day we'd been to Spa to the Belgian GP in 1989 - it got him revved up that much. Shock

Not as bad as Horse-Racing.

Horse Racing and Snooker would have me reaching for the divorce courts.

SuePurblybilt · 13/06/2011 18:37

The gear? The trousers. Poor LQ

Paschaelina · 13/06/2011 18:38

DH was introduced to the addiction of the driving seat as a 10 year old. There's no hope for him now. I indulge his little foible but have put my foot down on accompanying him. Only to circuits within driving distance, I refuse sleep under moving walls on tarmac surrounded by oil and grease (and thats just the other wives).

I quite fancy taking up golf, the studded shoes are a definite attraction.

DH is into, wait for it..... kites - huge freakin power kites, I swear that's what caused all his joint problems , he thinks that holding onto something for dear life whilst being pulled every which way by an unstoppable force is a metaphor for being married to me!

ohmyfucksy · 13/06/2011 19:36

OFGS take no notice of these harpies. ALL MEN WATCH MOTORSPORT, it's part of their biology. It's just a distraction, it doesn't mean anything. And plenty of cars choose to go into it and make lots of money - it's better than being a London cab.
