Fed up being a cycling widow!

I'll probably sound unreasonable but we hardly ever seem to do anything as a family at the weekends. My DH likes his cycling, as do I but I'm not obsessive about it. He is determined to get really fit for various events he's in but it takes over our lives and I'm frankly bored by it now. I can't remember when we last did something together as a family that didn't involve cycling of some sort. He's been out for over 4 hours now and when he gets back he'll be knackered and not up for anything else. So he'll sit around eating, relaxing and yet another fecking day will have gone past with me getting more and more irate about keeping the kids amused myself on a weekend. Grrrrrrrr! If it wasn't cycling I'm sure it would be something else.

As a DH who works 50hrs a week to let my DW sit around on her growing behind and post on this site that it's so hard to look after a child and that I have a couple of hours to ride a bike, a few points I'd like to make in my defence.

I'm a professional cyclist and get paid to ride a bike, around £300k a year so she can do f**k all with her life but moan.

Did she forget to mention that? and has nothing better to do? The allowance can be stopped and she can find a new husband who I'm sure will happily pay her to sit around grumbling and advertising that she's available for a few hours with a play mate over most weekends.

Your DH

yup, i'm a fan of the shaved legs.
i'm not a fan of my husband having better legs than me however.
but actually as i do sports massage, it is not a pleasant experience with hairy legs for them or me.

VGS, DH and I literally handed the children over in a relay once.

So is leChef the partner of OP? If so then he has a point as it's his job to ride the bike

VoluptuaGoodshag · 15/06/2011 14:35

My DH is NOT a professional cyclist, he has a normal day job.
That's quite a retort Lechef.

I gave up my career to be a SAHM but does that mean that I've chosen never to get to spend quality time as a family or alone with DH?
It's about balance and you skewed what I originally said. We have two kids, not one child and 8 hours is not a couple. If you are a professional does that mean your 50 hour week = 50 hours on the bike or do you have a normal job in addition?
I would not choose money over quality time together no matter how much DH got paid (and it's not a lot).

Just to make it clear, DH is not my partner but sounds like his DW might be posting on here somewhere too.

Lol at the Gethin Butler story (He was a regular on the cycling scene that DH rode in many years ago - all the locals tried their best, but could never beat him!).

VG - it does sound like your husband has a problem with his priorities. Most of the rest of us are having a bit of a moan, but our DHs sound as if they try their best to compromise with early morning rides and saying no to things they'd rather like to say yes to. It's very difficult to stop someone once they've set a precedent though, and it sounds like your DH has got into a routine of doing what he wants unchecked, and isn't taking kindly to any restrictions on his time. He's going to have to accept that free time for himself will be in short supply while his kids are so young.

Sorry, relationship advice not my forte, but i agree you deserve better.

God LeChef sounds like a right touchy fucker, posting on a complete stranger's thread implying he's the husband. Freak!
