I used it for 6 months, 3 of which husband and I were not living together. Next three we were (newly weds....) My previously regular ovulation cycle decided to fool the persona and jump forward 5 days. I have a lovely 7 year old dd now.

figleaf · 27/09/2005 16:04

Had a quick flick through the thread and I think hullabaloo and shades1 were saying it worked for them too.Perhaps there are a few more persona lurkers are out there

HappyDaddy · 27/09/2005 16:09

Is Persona the Rhythmn Method?

Janbo25 · 27/09/2005 16:20

no it's where it measures your ovulation cycle, how does the rythm method work>??

OP posts:
figleaf · 27/09/2005 16:23

No HappyDaddy, its a little machine that checks the levels of various chemicals in your pee and uses all the readings it has taken to predict when you ovulate. It knocks out a few days before and after ovulation (as a safety zone) and gives you a green light (literally) for other days. For me it red lights on 8 - 10 days a month.

HappyDaddy · 27/09/2005 16:26

So it's like a breathalyser for your cycle?

Rhythmn method is that your dp/dh withdraws just before he reaches the "finish". Very dodgy but works for dw and I as we don't mind if she falls pregnant. Also the pill sends her psychotic and she's allergic to condoms, the coil and everything else of god's green earth. LOL

flamebat · 27/09/2005 16:28

HD - would she appreciate you calling her psychotic online?

flamebat · 27/09/2005 16:28

As opposed to in shops etc

HappyDaddy · 27/09/2005 16:28

She doesn't mind. I call her it to her face.

Roobie · 27/09/2005 16:31

errr.. HappyDaddy that is not what the Rhythm Method is at all (common misconception though). RM is avoiding sex at the time of ovulation and estimating this time by counting the days in your cycle.

HappyDaddy · 27/09/2005 16:32

Not much rhythmn to that method, then!

figleaf · 27/09/2005 16:41

I checked out the Persona with a GP friend. She thought it was as effective as other methods if instructions followed. I think test stick type technologies are very advanced nowadays - lots of tests are conducted this way and considered very accurate.

Janbo25 · 27/09/2005 17:25

thank you very much figleaf i think i've been convinced to give it a try

OP posts:
figleaf · 28/09/2005 13:42

Remember - must follow instructions carefully!
If you dont, can I be a cyber Godparent

Janbo25 · 28/09/2005 13:48

lol of course figleaf!! lol

was it an hard decision for you to choose this method of contraception?

OP posts:
PeachyClair · 28/09/2005 14:44

I was pg after a month LOL

Family were a bit shocked (Dh and I only together 3 months) but it was the best thing ever happened to me.

However, as a method of contraception wouldn't recommend it but know loads of people used it to conceive

bambi06 · 28/09/2005 14:49

i was on the original trials and have used it since 1993 and have used it for both conceiving and not! its apparently best used for under 35s as your cycle changes after then so not as effective, but i can say that i1ve been very pleased with it plus i now know my body cycle much better and dont use it all the time now as i more or less now know when im ovulating anyway but i always used to err on side of caution and would add a couple of red days either side of what persona told me and i was backed up on this on the trials as well . im probably one of the minority by the sound of it that can happily say theyd carry on using it though.

Janbo25 · 28/09/2005 15:53

nice to hear someone else who uses it bambi and it obviously works for you!

OP posts:
figleaf · 28/09/2005 19:54

Not a difficult decision Janbo, no.Dh didnt like the options open to him, I didnt like the chemical options and neither of us wanted an operation. We`ve been married for 11 yrs next month and only have the 2 boys we planned for.

Janbo25 · 29/09/2005 17:03

I thing i'm going to give it a try!! watch this space.....

Rofl.
Persona was introduced as a birth control method, and was such an abysmal failure they changed the marketing to sell it as a conception aid. Grin

You should really only bother if you want something to pretend you aren't trying to get pg to a dimwit dh or dp.

As a birth control method, it is worse than useless. I'm old enough to remember the launch and subsequent hilarity when everyone ended up pg. it's a lovely idea but I don't know a single person who managed to use it without ending up the duff.

MajesticWhine · 15/01/2013 07:19

This is a very ancient thread.

Yes i used it and got pregnant with Dd2. Not a disaster as we were hoping to have another DC soon enough, but it is not reliable.

SueFawley · 15/01/2013 11:45

This is a very old thread.
But I will contribute anyway as I used Persona for a few months back in the mid 1990's. I stopped using it when I was talking to a family member who at the time was a family planning nurse and she told me they were seeing a spectacular failure rate with Persona. It would have been a disaster for me to get pregnant then, so I stopped using it.
