...if you liked these shows please tell me what else you listen to, 'cos together they constitued pretty much my entire non-R4-based listening and I'm feeling bereft.

But are you a bin or a trash person, jooseyfruit?

MarthaFarquhar · 29/12/2009 17:23

another Keavney fan here too, and I will admit to liking Lauren Laverne, though I am prepared to accept that might be controversial.

But A+J are quite, quite irreplaceable.

did anyone hear the David Bowie bath song? Simply genius.

LadyBiscuit · 29/12/2009 17:37

I am utterly gutted about Adam and Joe. I've grown up with them, they're the same age as me, I've always thought we'd be friends. And now it's over.

cries

badgermonkey · 29/12/2009 17:40

"I've always thought we'd be friends" - me too! Right from the Adam and Joe Show.

LadyBiscuit · 29/12/2009 18:01

badgermonkey - my sister lives near Joe and I've always hoped I'd bumped into him in Sainsbury but it's never happened

CarmelitaMiggs · 29/12/2009 18:16

Oh no, have I been lulled into a false sense of security? A&J said they were taking a break for a few months while Joe did this film thing, but they certainly led me to believe that it wasn't terminal, they'd be back

All I know is, I certainly won't be listening to Fi Glover. Even her sig tune drives me potty

I bet Adam's wife is a MNer

JaceyBee · 29/12/2009 18:22

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Please say it isn't so!

My DAB radio broke a while ago so a bit behind on the podcasts but had no idea they were leaving. Am gutted, they make me laugh so much and I will miss them. I have followed them from the beginning too, loved the A & J show and even badly dubbed porn.

I even had one of THOSE dreams about cornballs last week, very nice it was too

Did anyone else hear adam talking about having an erotic dream about Joe, that was HOT.

Kill Boggins.

badgermonkey · 29/12/2009 18:55

God, I thought Adam's dream about Joe was hot too! I rewound it to listen again, even. It's nice to know I'm not the only weirdo

holidaywonk · 29/12/2009 19:22

Carmelita, I'm with you - they'll be coming back when Joe has finished shooting his film I think.

Hi all I so agree... I enjoy laughing out loud while walking down the street listening to A&J on my ipod... No other programme does that for me. Will try out some of the above recommendations I guess.

Saturday morning will not be the same - used to drop ds2 at music, go for a run and come home for coffee, Guardian Weekend and Adam and Joe.. Perfect!

Sigh

holidaywonk · 31/12/2009 18:40

Hello soya. I just sniggered my way through Waitrose listening to one of the old podcasts.

OP posts:
soyabean · 01/01/2010 17:36

yes will have to re-listen to the lot!

DuelingFanjo · 01/01/2010 17:38

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO about Adam and Joe. Couldn't give a toss about Simon May - isn't he taking over from Chris Evans. Awful!

Like others I haven't managed to catch Adam and Joe the last couple of weeks so I didn't know he was leaving.

Whenever Cerys Matthews is on Six music she's quite good but not funny like Adam and Joe. Also the guy from Fun loving criminals on 6 music I like.

DuelingFanjo · 01/01/2010 17:39

they were leaving!

[rocks back and forth in anguish whispering 'it just cannot be']

biggulp · 01/01/2010 17:50

will the good doctor (kermode) be going too (sound of heart breaking)

DuelingFanjo · 01/01/2010 17:50

I'd love it if someone could tell me why Simon Mayo is good... Having said that I never really objected to him when he was on Radio One years ago but the couple of weeks he did the Chris Evan show he just really annoyed me. Did anyone listen to it and was he very different to how he normally is? I felt he was trying too hard.

Am probably going to end up listening to Simon Mayo in the car on the way home from work anyway because I really can't stand Scott Mills or whoever it is who does the Radio one show.

holidaywonk · 01/01/2010 17:54

AHA biggulp, don't worry - the Friday film slot will carry on on 5Live apparently. Don't know how that's going to work in terms of Mayo's R2 slot (and frankly don't care)

Fanjo - he was great on 5Live. Very warm, clever without showing off, brilliant brilliant interviewer - put people at ease and let them speak for themselves/hoist themselves with their own petard - and proper grown-up coverage of politics without fustiness.

Can imagine he would be irritating on the R2 slot. All I can say is that the 5Live show was well ropey when it started - it took him about six months to get the tone right.

OP posts:
DuelingFanjo · 01/01/2010 18:04

does seem to me that he might have been encouraged to be nauseatingly 'up' when covering Chris Evans. Seemed like the wrong thing. personally I think Johnny Walker should come back.

holidaywonk · 01/01/2010 18:14

Yes, he does have a perky persona that I don't really like. And as I said I also don't like his taste in music, so I think I'm going to struggle with the R2 show.

OP posts:
DuelingFanjo · 01/01/2010 19:41

So where was this announced? I am clutching at straws because the 6 music website doesn't say they are leaving yet...

holidaywonk · 01/01/2010 19:56

They announced it on the show a couple of weeks ago (or possibly in one of the podcast intros)

6Music are gutted I should think, probably why they're not mentioning it! Guardian covers the story here

I always sense that Mayo believes his own publicity too much re being labelled as "clever". He's not that clever but acts as though he is. There's a sense of smuggery about him that I find offputting.

said · 02/01/2010 15:30

Well, when listening today, the stand-in Danny Wallace (who he?) said that he was just covering whilst A&J were "away"
