Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you would love to attend Pip's wedding with Natasha and the starry twins, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Starting the new thread a bit early as I'm not sure I'll have much internet access for the next few days. Fill up the old one first. And then - over to you!

(Credit for the thread title goes to @TripleSulko.)

Oh, many thanks. Can’t say I recall him!

You're welcome. I don't either but I remember re-forming being mentioned.

DrBlackbird · 04/10/2026 20:52

I initially thought oh good on Fallon moving on and having fun with someone new until the last bit where she called him babe. If it’s just revenge sex, where does that SL go?

MorningCoffeePlease · 04/10/2026 20:56

I always think of "Niall" as pronounced Nye-awl because that's how Irish people I knew pronounced their son's name.

I think the Harrison/Fallon thing is all too realistic. She wanted to break up because she really doesn't want to be with him/doesn't want kids/was happier when he was in Leeds, but she doesn't want anyone else to have him. Harrison is an attractive bloke (I don't hear him like that, but apparently that is the case) who wants to be in a relationship, doesn't want to be on his own, would get back with Fallon in a heartbeat, but failing that will move on and will have no problem moving on and finding someone else (as has already been proved). I have seen this scenario in RL. Fallon really doesn't want Harrison, so she just needs to move on - and she needs to accept she will be poorer than him because he has the better career. I think she should get a move on and move onto Rex's houseboat and create an enviable lifestyle in a tiny home. I'm not sure where Lily fits in - I can't decide if she really wants to be with Harrison or not. She's not yet at the point of needing to rush into having children so I think it's all going to be too much too soon for her. Vince's party might be just what she needs to remind her she's not ready to slip into middle-aged acceptance quite just yet.

Spot on, @LillianGish.

Though to me he sounds attractive, assuming it's meant literally, as he has a northern accent, as I have.

I hope all this is not one long elaborate dance to get Harrison and Fallon back into their awful relationship.

Please no.

Harrison, luv, it's time to lawyer up!

LillianGish · 04/10/2026 23:17

Nothing against northern accents @echt - I am of northern extraction myself - I just think he sounds incredibly wet at times (less so at the moment).

I am from not far from there but Harrison does not sound attractive.

Sidebeforeself · 04/10/2026 23:45

I think Harrison sounds attractive but does give me the ick. Also, he definitely wanted to give things another go with Fallon, so to be all “sweetheart “ with Lily so quickly also sounds a bit icky. But Fallon made it clear she didnt want him didnt she? Either way, this storyline is far more interesting and complex than one about a sodding dog field.

But what exactly is a dog field? If only someone would explain…

Gooseinthewood · 05/10/2026 06:56

I'm literally standing outside of one now. We live in what I imagine to be a similar place to ambridge, if a little less twee.

All of the land round here is farm land or a nearby town. One of the farmers fenced of a 2 acre paddock and people pay £10 to let the dog off in a safe space.

And as an aside I hope Fallon relocates so I don't have to here her whiney miserableness any more.

BeatriceBatchelor · 05/10/2026 07:30

Fallon's behaviour was really gross.

JoelenesParrot · 05/10/2026 08:04

Fallon is a classic example of someone who doesn’t know what she wants. She doesn’t want H but doesn’t want anyone else to have him. She doesn’t want to go on a date but she doesn’t want to appear to be sitting at home proverbially knitting. She doesn’t want to go to the party but she certainly doesn’t want H to be going to the party. She’s in the awkward position of having got her way by breaking up with H, only to find out things are not quite so green on the other side. I know she has brought it on herself but she is in the wilderness at the moment and it could take a very long time to navigate her way out. She has good friends (Ed, Jazzer, even Alice and Emma to a point) but they all have their own lives. She doesn’t really now. She has a job as a modern day domestic servant at LL and an oppressive mother and stepfather who want to treat her like a 12-year-old. I wish the EV cafe plan had come together. Or that she was doing catering from her kitchen as she could really throw herself into those ventures. She also loves cooking and food but is now filling in grant application forms. Sigh. She is a lost soul. A slightly silly lost soul but one nonetheless.

edited to say stepfather

I’m not entirely clear how dog fields are going to enable the Snells to remain in Ambridge Hall unless they have loads of them or link up with Lovell James and offer puppy socialisation events and Barbara Woodhouse style training. I expect Joy and Mick have some experience of dog agility/training.

The smarter fields near me ask owners to pay a monthly membership fee (so at least there is a base income) as well as a the hire cost.

TBH I am still trying to get my head around the Snells not having en-suite bedrooms.

DeanElderberry · 05/10/2026 09:41

Grant sounded nice and sane, I hope he owns a pair of running shoes.

Somnambule · 05/10/2026 09:47

The dog field is at best a low-cost side hustle - for someone who already owns a field! Having to rent one is ridiculous, they might make a bit of pocket money from it if they're lucky.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 05/10/2026 11:35

I think Harrison sounds attractive but does give me the ick. I don't think he sounds unattractive voice-wise, it's the 'love' and 'sweetheart' I mind. I don't like listening to Shaun Keaveny's voice, which is similar to Harrison's.
I like northern accents generally but maybe not the Greater Manchester ones.

TottersBlankly · 04/10/2026 19:18

Oh - excellently excruciating episode.

Love that for you, Fallon! 🍸🍸🍸🍸

Me too! I did a little squeak of joy!

TottersBlankly · 05/10/2026 14:11

”And having a stately home on the invite.”

Yup.

Elizabeth would absolutely, definitely converse in those terms.

HmmHmmHmm

WitcheryDivine · 05/10/2026 14:56

Well I enjoyed that a lot. Harrison was clearly giving Fallon enough pitying looks as he went out to his stately home party with the daughter of the house that Fallon just thought - stuff that. She’s always had options and good for her actually looking up one of them.

LOVED the contrast between Harrison making his twenties girlfriend a hot chocolate and Fallon brewing up spicy margs for her shag. Maybe it’s those two who have the real (mental) age gap as Harrison was clearly born 40.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 05/10/2026 16:00

Lily made Harrison cocktails a different time. Hot chocolate with Harrison? Not my idea of a seductive nightcap after a party at a stately home.

ExOptimist · 05/10/2026 20:47

@TottersBlankly Exactly.
And she would never in a million years say invite instead of invitation. ( Inner pendant coming out, I simply can't stand it).

Hang about...

ExOptimist · 05/10/2026 20:56

I wonder who all this information about birth and the aftermath is aimed at. Are the SW trying to inform all the numerous teenagers and young women who follow influencers who also listen to the Archers🙄? A venn diagram of those groups would have 2 separate circles.

It's not as if no one has given birth before on the programme. The average age of a R4 listener is about 55 so way past childbearing age and would already know what early motherhood can be like.

And how we laughed at Eddie pretending he owned a Porsche.
