Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you also confide only in your budgie, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from [https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/5457344-the-archers-spoilers-thread-11-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here]], where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Not feeling greatly enthused about what's going on in Ambridge at the moment, tbh. I'm annoyed at Brian's hypocrisy about Ruairi given the furore over George's attempt to frame Alice as the cause of the accident. I do hope we don't have a slow drip drip drip now as one after another the members of the Aldridge/Archer clan find out what really happened and endlessly agonise over what to do. Frankly I don't care. There! I've said it.

Pip's OK. Well, good, but what was the point of that story, I wonder?

I suspect I'm in a minority of one in rather enjoying hearing (a) from Bert Horobin and (b) about Fletcher. I surmise Bert is here to stay for a while because the BBC has (amazingly) updated his character page: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/1wQP3mKR6yr9LVs05jddxcY/bert-horrobin (prominent actor photo warning). Given how out of date a lot of the other character pages are, this seems odd, but there we are.

That's all I can be bothered to say! Over to you.

I strongly disagree! Regardless of how he behaves going forwards I couldn’t think of a better man for Kirsty to be involved with. He’s completely opened up the world (or at least Europe) to her. Given her horizons beyond Ambridge. No strings (until now) fun, entertainment, experience, with zero pressure to take over his domestic work or change her way of life to suit him. (Can you tell it’s exactly what I’d want? 😄)

Like I said, Totters, there might soon be a vacancy!

I agree with you. I brought a child up on my own and it was much easier making all my own decisions. If I ever felt lonely I looked at my married friends and thought 'no I don't really want that'. I got married later in life and still sometimes wonder ...

I have long thought Kirsty was a bit of a drain on the planet's oxygen supply.

I think Kirsty is wonderful.

Darker · 03/05/2026 15:52

If I lived in Ambridge I can see myself hanging out with Kirsty.

RuairiDonovan · 03/05/2026 16:00

Me too. She's the best of the lot. She's kind, caring, looks out for her friends, and is never spiteful, envious or needy.

BeatriceBatchelor · 03/05/2026 16:03

Fellow Kirsty fan here!

Sidebeforeself · 03/05/2026 16:05

Yeah I like Kirsty too. She stuck to her principles and showed real kindness in the modern slavery storyline. Helen would have made it all about her.

TottersBlankly · 03/05/2026 19:08

So. There It Is. The Retcon.

Brookfield (at some unspecified point in the past) bought out Shula and Elizabeth and now own Jill’s cottage?

FML …

RuairiDonovan · 03/05/2026 19:11

Why is Anna in court today and tomorrow?

Helen makes everything about her.

snowibunni · 03/05/2026 19:11

Do courts work on a bank holiday ? And Social services?

Why is Anna in court at all? She teaches law these days rather than practising it.

Why is court sitting on a Sunday and a Bank Holiday Monday, anyway?

Edited

The previous retcon was Alice telling us that Jennifer's kitchen was torn out by the Gills, which as far as I know was not said on air at the time.

Someone at the BBC has discovered this board and looked for all those times people have said "hang on, but..." about things which have been put in that are at odds with what was on air previously.

TottersBlankly · 03/05/2026 19:21

It’s perfectly possible to do both! Teaching Law and practising it. (At least, I remember trying to. What actually happened was that I never felt I was doing either thing properly.)

I agree with both of you.

Yes, and Anna was a lousy barrister already.

But did you attend court sessions on Bank Holiday Mondays, as a rule?

CaptainMyCaptain · 03/05/2026 19:25

snowibunni · 03/05/2026 19:11

I think it was an OT that was coming but I doubt if they do visits on Bank Holidays.

TottersBlankly · 03/05/2026 19:27

I honestly can’t recall.

And as I’ve been away from the Bar for a million years I have no knowledge of current processes - but I wouldn’t be surprised if the ongoing horrific backlog means courts are open on Sundays and bank holidays.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 03/05/2026 19:31

Magistrates' courts sit on Saturdays and Bank Holidays but not on Sundays. Crown courts generally do not sit on Sundays. (And if she is working as a barrister would she be doing a two-day trial at a magistrates' court?)

MorningCoffeePlease · 03/05/2026 19:40

George had his barring lifted and made the promise "I won't cause no trouble", is that a case of never a truer word spoken?

DeanElderberry · 03/05/2026 20:07

Is that why Shula scarpered to the North east? She got the money for a cottage still owned by Jill and decided to be living somewhere else when the Dopeys find out. Elizabeth is far enough away and brazen enough to ignore the howling.

muddyford · 03/05/2026 21:16

CaptainMyCaptain · 03/05/2026 19:25

I think it was an OT that was coming but I doubt if they do visits on Bank Holidays.

The OT was coming to do an assessment. From recent experience it's hard enough getting them to come in a normal working week. No way would one be out on a bank holiday.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 03/05/2026 21:34

Maybe when Sarah McDonald Hughes wrote the scripts for this week she wasn't aware one of them would be broadcast on a bank holiday? A court sitting on a Sunday is more difficult to explain away, though.

I thought we were told about the kitchen? I've got vague memories of a SL mentioning all the bits being chucked outside the house and general angst about trying to prevent Jennifer hearing about it. And didn't someone else want to nick it all to use it for themselves?
