Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that like George you like your steak very well done, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Mulligan mostly makes me think of John Finnemore's Souvenir Show. This is good, and tenuously connected to a recent TA storyline

Over to you!

TBF I can believe the oblivious bread delivery guy. I was playing a lunchtime organ recital once, and in the middle of the most delicate of pieces played on the sweetest of flute stops, when two removal-company mannies noisily tromped down the aisle and deposited a large harpsichord (there was another concert at some point) in front of the chancel steps with an almighty crash, and then noisily tromped out again. Were they deterred by a sign on the door? No. Were they deterred by an audience sitting in the pews, holding programmes, and staring at them in shock and disapproval? No. Were they deterred by the music recital clearly in progress? No. They had been told to move a harpsichord from A to B (though presumably not at that precise time), and so they moved a harpsichord from A to B.

Future moving of that harpsichord was undertaken under my direction. Gently.

Fabulous post 👏❤️ I always said this thread is better than the actual programme:

You need to listen to the episode again, @Bruisername!

Bruisername · 07/11/2025 14:12

I haven’t listened yet and was just going off these posts!! Glad to hear Martha was with Alice!!

whilst I feel Alice is due a relapse I’m not sure I can bear to listen to it!!!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/11/2025 15:12

Fallon is away - with Harrison? Martha, as already mentioned, was back with Alice. Esme had written a eulogy and was in the middle of it when the bread man arrived. She has been trying to get on top of the farm's finances and contacting people. Understandable that she was a bit all over the place, but given that one month ago none of us had ever heard of Esme, Mulligan or Meadow Farm, it all seems a bit OTT.

I may be a lone voice here, but I'd be delighted to be listening to The Traitors instead of The Archers at the moment. I like Claudia Winkleman. Perhaps the Josh actor could ask his Mum to make a guest appearance too.

@TottersBlithely , yes. The Aldridge baby will be born there.
@ExitPursuedByABare , thanks. Forgotten that Chris had taken Martha. Carly is probably upduffed already.

Should the Aldridge baby be born by caesarean in a Scottish castle, it must surely be named Macduff.

BeatriceBatchelor · 07/11/2025 15:27

So odd for us to listen to a funeral of someone we didn't know or care about.

Chris is so wet. And the way he and Alice pander to Martha...

Brefugee · 07/11/2025 15:29

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g who is the Josh actor's mum?

Oh god, Phoebe's baby is going to be a) born in the castle and b) a boy and Kate is for ever and ever and ever going to say it is a Laird...

Madcats · 07/11/2025 15:31

Bruisername · 06/11/2025 19:33

I would have thought hazel would be keen to get the work done asap so she can keep collecting the rent from Chris. Or are they going to find she’s turned it into a luxury house to Airbnb🙄

When DID Chris and the shop relocate? It feels like it was months ago! When we partially gutted/rewired/replumbed our house and treated the floors I am sure it was only about a month before we could move in.

I love Trivium's tale: I hope one of the SW's chances upon it and saves it up for a Jakob scene in a few years' time.

Whilst we are on the subject of Scottish Castles, are/were the earlier "non-celeb" episodes of the Traitors any good? I'd forgotten about pregnant Phoebe (Kate will be unbearable if she does give birth at the Castle).

DeanElderberry · 07/11/2025 15:36

Since Phoebe was born at Glastonbury festival, the baby is going to have to work quite hard to keep up.

I didn't get into The Traitors until series 2 was imminent, I think, but I've seen all of them and found them addictive. I don't normally follow reality things so I don't know what it is about this one that's got under my skin. Series 1 is not as good as 2 and 3, because they were just getting to grips with the format. I haven't watched any of the non-UK series, but I gather the BBC has quite a number available on iplayer. Ireland recently had S1 and it's going to be viewable here in the near future.

Bloody Esme. Fed up to the back teeth with her whinging voice.

ChersHeart · 07/11/2025 19:50

I'm not but I can't stand Carly's voice. Esme is in for the long haul I think.

muddyford · 07/11/2025 20:14

That's what I'm afraid of.

MorningCoffeePlease · 07/11/2025 20:18

Susan has completely lost her marbles.

ChersHeart · 07/11/2025 20:18

I like her. She'll be Mrs Josh.

@MorningCoffeePlease , she has. She'll lose her job.

Buxusmortus · 07/11/2025 20:44

MorningCoffeePlease · 07/11/2025 20:18

Susan has completely lost her marbles.

Susan is doolally. Only the most brainless person would be so stupid as to not understand why people don't want George in the local shop.
I really want the committee to accept her ultimatum and let her resign from the shop and post office, would serve her right for being such an idiot.

echt · 07/11/2025 20:59

I agree with @ChersHeart that a Josh and Esme liaison is on the cards. And yes, she has an annoying voice.

ChersHeart · 07/11/2025 21:06

At least she doesn't sound like Pip pretending to be a 16-yr old. Carly has out-Pipped Pip for me, and that's really saying something.
doo-wah, doo-wah ...

Eastie77Returns · 07/11/2025 21:19

Carly’s voice is weirdly detached and monotone. She sounds like there is something not quite right with her.

Esme’s voice is so annoying I just turn down the volume when she speaks.

Susan is demented and I feel so sorry for Neil. Hopefully the committee will gladly accept her resignation.

BeaLola · 07/11/2025 21:24

So i agree and mentioned before Josh and Esme , but are they going to offer George casual work ?

And I do get why everyone's so upset/ angry about George in the shop but then there was all that before with Susan and Clive after he tried to rob the shop plus to be honest Brian is no saint and Lillian was shacked up with fraudster Matt

WitcheryDivine · 07/11/2025 22:12

I don’t find Carly or Esme’s voices annoying. But I do find Carly a bit creepy.

Pumpkinallspice · 07/11/2025 22:40

Carly’s voice is weirdly detached and monotone. She sounds like there is something not quite right with her.

I had tge sane thought. At best she doesn't sound terribly bright, but something sounds off with her.

MinnieBaldock · 08/11/2025 06:40

So Esme is keeping on the farm which is good, but she expects Ruth and David to help and will pay them a bit of money, and the idiots have said you don't need to pay us we will always help you. What the flip, they can hardly run thier own farm and have put pressure on Pip so they help Esme. She is going to drag her feet in getting outside help and Ruth and David who seem to have adopted Esme will really suffer.
Susan is turning herself inside out for George just to keep on his good side.
She will give her notice just before George says he had a job helping out Tom and Helen. Thanks but no thanks Nanna. Then Susan will only have the dairy job.

I did wonder why we were hearing so much more about the virtues of Mulligan senior than I remember hearing in relation to, say, Jenny.
