Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that like George you like your steak very well done, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Mulligan mostly makes me think of John Finnemore's Souvenir Show. This is good, and tenuously connected to a recent TA storyline

Over to you!

Probably got a lift from Will.

TottersBlithely · 27/10/2025 14:48

Ok, so the last we heard, Miranda had only put in an offer on Home Farm house? I wonder if that might spur on another buyer or consortium of buyers?

Alternatively maybe her purchase might just be a holding position until Ruairi really can buy it? At mates’ rates - given we know he’s good with older women …

It’s a bit rubbish - but frankly, after the washout that is Peggy’s inexplicably inconclusive Will, I can’t be bothered to waste much fury on the SWs.

In hindsight obviously Emma and Will should have frogmarched George to Borchester Jobcentre the first Monday morning after he was released. He might find it all less hurtful to be trying his luck amongst strangers. And it must be very weird to be stuck in Ambridge in his situation.

Is Amber already bored with the whole scenario? Or just discreetly tapping her colleagues for wedding stuff? It wouldn’t be surprising if she wanted to press pause on the wedding - but on the other hand maybe a big public event is still too beneficial to her profile to be thrown away?

What a complete waste of car go-juice. There is nothing beyond Bridge Farm on that road, so why would Will be going that way anyway?

Bruisername · 27/10/2025 15:08

Doesn’t he work there?

ChersHeart · 27/10/2025 15:14

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime , because he works there? To give George a lift?

If he is working there at the same time as George, sure. Otherwise George can frodding well walk. Will needs a van for making deliveries, but, since the van he does deliveries in is for transporting food, it probably belongs to Bridge Farm rather than to him and he would probably be walking to work too. Or be bone idle like his waste of space "I'm not doing nothing!" son who stays in bed until the afternoon.

This is all moot anyway: why, having sacked him before, would Bridge Farm want to employ George again? Bleeding heart Guardianista syndrome?

Ah so you’ve met Pat.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 27/10/2025 16:10

I suspect, actually, that both she and Tony might do it simply in order to put Brian's nose out of joint.

What happened to the business that Brad had to keep going for George during his time in prison? Why isn't George getting that going again, or did I miss something?

ChersHeart · 27/10/2025 17:33

Didn't he give up because it was affecting his studies?

If you were a local farmer, would you want George to be operating a drone with which he could spy on your business?

TottersBlithely · 27/10/2025 19:08

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!

What did we do wrong???

TherapistInATabard · 27/10/2025 19:27

What? What???

muddyford · 27/10/2025 19:38

What was that festive ordure spouted by Eddie? And Kenton should back up his wife.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/10/2025 19:44

Joy, Pip and Eddie in the same episode? I thought somebody had died from Totters' reaction!

Good point. I know nothing about drone businesses, but could it also necessitate driving to the client's site? I assume the local police will all know he's out and be keeping an eye out in case he's seen driving. How long is his ban?

😀

Was it just drone images and video or was there more to it?

TottersBlithely · 27/10/2025 19:50

Sorry, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g! 😂

DeanElderberry · 27/10/2025 19:52

It's my fault for mentioning the Ambridge pantos.

mea maxima culpa

TherapistInATabard · 27/10/2025 19:27

What? What???

Yin and Yang.

We get to hear fun stuff like the squabbles between Brian’s DC and DSC plus of course his plans to become (as they say on MN) a “cocklodger”.

This has to be balanced by Eddie and his turkeys plus a character I am scared to mention

Trivium4all · 27/10/2025 20:02

OMG. Mention of a loose cow would have farmers not saying, "not one of ours", but immediately identifying the likely suspects and getting on the phone. And/or it would have been posted on the local Facebook page immediately.

Trivium4all · 27/10/2025 20:08

Speaking of loose cows, does anyone on here read Stuart MacBride's Logan MacRae mysteries? Darkly hilariously accurate observations of the NE of Scotland...including where the detective gets seconded to a more rural unit, and gets rather fed up of the many loose coo incidents...

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/10/2025 17:27

Apologies, @DeanElderberry, I didn't realise there were so many Catholic boarding schools.

[Reeling here from a terrible crisis - there are no ice cubes in the freezer, not that I can find, anyway. I bet Lilian never allows this to happen. This is what comes of going away for a few days.]

I’m not so sure about Lilian’s ice cube or indeed general drinks management - it wasn’t so long ago I remember her having to buy a bottle of wine from the village shop because family were coming round… Seemed unbelievable but there you go!

How does she not have a wine rack of substantial size? Although, being in possession of same, it is feasible to feel one doesn't have something perfectly appropriate to the specific occasion. Though, tbh, Lilian strikes me more as a G&T/cocktails type of drinker, rather than thinking about the precise pairing of wine and food. Nothing wrong with that per se, but a matter of style.
