Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you want to hear more from Markey, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

What is/was Ruairi's actual job/grad scheme? It was so vague as to be absolute nonsense - as if working in London was a job in itself. One thing's for sure, as Stella has already observed, he has no farming experience ("Does he know enough to be useful?") which is presumably why Adam was getting him to reorganise the stationery. I don't think he's yet twigged that Ruairi is any sort of a threat. Much more interesting than the Rosie/Cleo PSA storyline - I'm finding it hard to believe that Rosie, who has grown up surrounded by animals, is having such a problem or that Ben is suddenly omni-present in all their lives.

I can't understand how much fuss is being made about Cilo and Rosie, it's not like Stella lives with Pip and if she does go round to Pip's she can always supervise Cilo and Rosie together isn't that what most people do with a new dog.
We have to talk about it. Every thing in Pips life is about Pip. I would say it's my dog and if you can't control your child then we have a big problem. Ben making it sound like Rosie was being mauled.
Freddie is a top notch coward and Lily should just speak up with out having to have a yes I am, no your not, conversation with Lynda about it.

I suspect Pip's issue is not so much with the dog but with Stella's attention being in any way distracted from her and the wonderful Rosie. Surely Pip's grown up around dogs all her life, why else would she suddenly be acting like they're unpredictable, dangerous creatures?

As for Freddie and Lily, I thought Freddie was supposed to take after his father? There's no way Nigel would have let someone else take the blame for something he had done.

Pip is a daft name. That's the hill that I will die on.

Dr Malik was pathetic.

What's Adam planning to do for a job when a new farm manager is installed?

Welcome home, Ruiari!

Adam thinks that he will take over from Brian as the farm manager's boss, and Brian will retire quietly into the background. Good luck with that.

Why Cleo when it could be Rosie?

😃

DeanElderberry · 12/09/2025 10:54

I remember the time when the big drama was Adam getting bitten by a snake.

Spoiler

.

.

he survived, but it shows there are (or were) venomous reptiles in the vicinity of Ambridge.

❤ 🐍 ❤

Bruisername · 12/09/2025 11:11

Maybe we are due a PSA on the dangers of keeping exotic pets

perhaps pip will go to wake Rosie and find her wrapped in a python

DeanElderberry · 12/09/2025 11:30

The adder that was minding its own business on Heydon Berrow in 1977 when it was jumped on by Adam was neither exotic nor anyone's pet.

I did look up the details, but equally remembered all the brouhaha and carry-on.

DeanElderberry · 12/09/2025 11:32

It does raise the hope that there is a dynasty of adders out there with an historic awareness of what rotters the Archers are, scaring poor innocent reptiles, to be avenged if possible.

Bruisername · 12/09/2025 11:33

I once had a close encounter with a snake escaping my husbands clomping feet by skirting over my own foot. Not aure which of us felt the most terror!!

perhaps Cleo will save Rosie from a terrible fate and will be lovingly welcomed by pip whilst being cursed by the listener

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/09/2025 11:37

BeatriceBatchelor · 11/09/2025 19:54

Surely it's a nickname for Phillipa (don't know how it's spelt)?

And it is daft.

Named for her grandfather, Philip/ Phil Archer, David's Dad. Pippa would have been a more obvious shortening.

Why Cleo when it could be Rosie?

Because of her name.

I'm getting bored of Stella being the only person who knows anything about farming. He can learn- Brian and Adam can teach him. He has a vested interest in learning and he couldn't be worse than Alice or Kate would be.

Pip, Ben [or was it Josh?] and know-it- all Stella are complete idiots if they left Fat Rosie alone with a new dog.

TheCrasher · 12/09/2025 13:36

They didn't leave Fat Rosie alone with the new dog, Ben was there.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 12/09/2025 13:52

So what was the big fuss about?

Although Stella shouldn't have left Cleo with anyone else at this stage.

Bruisername · 12/09/2025 13:53

Shouldn’t Ben be getting the blame then!!

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 12/09/2025 13:55

Bruisername · 12/09/2025 13:53

And Stella for leaving the new dog with a stranger.

Bruisername · 12/09/2025 13:55

Poor doggo

TheCrasher · 12/09/2025 13:58

Ben is Stella's partner's brother and her friends and landlords David and Ruth's son. He lives next door. He's hardly a stranger.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 12/09/2025 14:11

TheCrasher · 12/09/2025 13:58

Ben is 100% a stranger for a new (rescue and possibly traumatised?) dog. All Cleo knows is she's in an unfamiliar setting with lots of new people.

Introducing Cleo to all these new people was a really stupid thing to do.

TheCrasher · 12/09/2025 14:37

True. The dog hasn't had time to bond with Stella yet.
Rosie is 7 and doesn't listen. Do 7 year olds carry soft toys everywhere?

Agapornis · 12/09/2025 15:47

Sometimes I feel Pip represents the worst of Mumsnet. Badly behaved child because of shit parenting, controlling a partner.

A boyfriend once asked me whether, hypothetically, I'd choose him or my cat. He didn't like the answer 😁

Did I hear correctly that Pip insisted on Stella and Ben leaving the room? Bizarre. But no doubt Stella will leave Ambridge sooner rather than later as all sane women with a career do (Anisha, Brenda, Debbie, Phoebe, Amy[? did she grow up there?] - tbc on Mia, Noluthando).

I don't think most 7 year olds would get that upset over a stuffed giraffe. She's not a toddler.

Cantsleepdontsleep · 12/09/2025 17:39

I’d say a 7yr old would only be carrying a stuffed toy if it were a squishmallow or a lububu, and even then only if the destination was to meet up with a another soft toy of the same variety for a play date (delighted mine finds lububu’s creepy. If you don’t know what they are, I don’t suggest looking it up).

I am often handed soft toys which need washing as one of the dogs has taken a fancy to it and it’s been rechristened in salvia. There is never any drama over it. Occasionally a small repair may be necessary. Again, no drama (despite toys apparently being ‘alive’).

Bruisername · 12/09/2025 17:41

The sw are pretty bad at age appropriateness with kids - they are either outrageously mature or have habits that are far too young
