I’ve done it! I’ve switched to Radio 4 in the morning!

Does this mean I have finally grown up aged 53? I’ve been listening to Radio 2 for years . Couldn’t face Zoe so tried Greatest Hits- can’t bear the ads. Tried Virgin but Chris and crew were too much. Now Scot Mills is in place I just give up!
Still love Liza Tarbuck on radio 2 but for my daily news and calm start to my day it’s radio 4 all the way. What can I look forward to? Any particular shows I should listen out for? I can listen before 8.30 and after 4pm in the week.

I commute at different times if the day if I'm working (I'm on bank, so ad hoc), but I have recently lost patience with R2 as I can't bear any 'public interaction' stuff.

DJ: 'Hi Serena, where are you travelling to?'
Serena: 'Um, I'm here with my gorgeous hubby and our our two fur-babies travelling from Grimsby to Clacton!'
DJ: 'And what's your gorgeous hubby called, Serena?'
Serena: 'Um, Shane'
DJ: 'Hi Shane! Keep your eyes on the road, Shane!' And who are your fur-babies, Serena?'
Serena: 'Um, Sheba, a rescue collie we got from a shelter in Accrington, and Bella who's really my cousin's dog'
DJ: 'Ooh, tell us about Bella!'
....etc

No, DON'T, play some effing Dire Straits or something! We don't care about Serena and Shane's DOGS and you haven't even STARTED on why they're going to Clacton ('to celebrate my bestie's partner's 43rd birthday'- 'What's his name?', 'How long have they been together?').

No.

You’ve just summed it up perfectly. So tedious and sycophantic. I’m over it. Zoe ‘ gorgeous girl’ Ball was like this with her habit of speaking for everyone ( “ We ALLlove him!”) can get to feck!

My favourite programme might be Archive on 4. Not only because it's good, but it's consistently good and there's rarely a rubbish one. As an example, this, which for me is radio heaven, is currently being broadcast:

Return of the Saint star Ian Ogilvy tells the story of Lew Grade's ITC company, which revolutionised British television in the 1960s and 70s. From espionage on the Riviera to surrealist thrillers filmed in Wales, and talking to actors, historians, producers and composers, this is a joyous celebration of ITC’s undoubtedly suave place in the history of pop culture.

I grew up with Radio 4 on throughout the day growing up, kept it up as a young adult, but now can't handle hearing any news/political programming.
Podcasts & BBC sounds give me a taste of R4 without having to go through the trauma of hearing the news or a randomly dreadful drama piece. Are they EVER any good?

Listen to R2 mostly through bbc sounds, as mentioned, lost many a fab dj but there's still enough to keep me content.
I can't bear commercial radio, so many adverts, so hopefully the bbc will remain ad free.
Thanks for all suggestions on thread, tried & loved listening to the PR guys talking about Greg Wallace, will definitely be catching up listening to them
