Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to have a moribund camper van parked indefinitely outside your home, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

since the police found nothing to charge her with

Laziness or incompetence on the part of the fuzz, that, rather than evidence that Emmur did nothing wrong.

Brefugee · 02/12/2024 11:54

meh - taking a pragmatic view, in the end they got their man. There is no benefit in prosecuting a parent who didn't know what to do, but eventually did the right thing.

If she had persisted in the lie, i could understand a prosecution.

Interesting idea that Harrison made a complaint about Emma on the PC. Who really knows that Emma knew in advance . Is that wider common knowledge. Parish Councils can be very petty places. Just right for this sort of thing!

harriethoyle · 02/12/2024 12:14

I definitely think @TherapistInATabard is right and it's Harrison. He's exactly the type...

Gonners · 02/12/2024 12:28

I assume complaints to the PC can't be made anonymously, because if they could then they would find themselves dealing with nothing else. So Emma presumably has the right to know who complained and precisely why.

I think that Emma having known before the police did is no secret; Harrison has shouted it round the village. Fallon had amajor row with her about it. Kenton knew, and declined to employ her because of it. Chris knew and was absolutely furious. And I think that is enough for the knowledge to be widespread.

I think trying to get Emma off the council points to someone who wanted to be on it themselves. I don't think it's likely it's Lynda, because Robert would have kept quiet if it had been; how about Hilary Noakes, or Lilian? They've both tried for election before now.

WombatCowgirl · 02/12/2024 19:18

I'm definitely up for Creepy Christmas with the Mari Llwyd (sp?) visiting the terrified residents!

FlyingFlapjack · 02/12/2024 19:26

Mari Lwyd. It's not Llwyd because it mutates to agree with Mari.

CaptainMyCaptain · 02/12/2024 19:32

3 mentions of cycle helmets. Just saying.

TottersBlanklyOnTheEdge · 02/12/2024 19:41

Noticed …

No one would miss Ruth.

Just saying …

They could have corrected the misunderstanding that "E-bikes can only go 15mph". I read that so often! The motors stop assisting at 25kph, but once one has momentum, one can certainly cruise a bit faster! And it's theoretically possible that Leonard broke the speed limit coasting downhill (I think I hit 54kph before I got a bit scared), but probably not by much.

Especially since he was travelling, according to Lynda, from the village green (which was underwater when the Am flooded, and is probably the most low-lying ground in the area) towards the Country Park, which is also on the banks of the Am. That journey seems pretty unlikely to have been downhill by much, if at all.

I'd quite like Krampus to visit and take some people away. Krampusnacht/St Nicholas Eve is on Thursday 😇

I didn't think his jolly voice was that bad before the boring one. I think its cos he's northern lol.

JoelenesParrot · 03/12/2024 06:59

The place for cinnamon is not in anything at all.
(I will accept it as part of mixed spice.)

Do you remember when Pat put it in a stew when Olwen was visiting? We were
all outraged…I don’t consider Pat to be much of a cook. I think she can produce meals regularly but that’s different.

RegimentalSturgeon · 03/12/2024 07:52

Indeed. I suspect her cooking is lumpen, moralistic and joyless, but horribly ample. The woman.made a ‘wholemeal sponge’ for the tea party with Ursula in the run-up to Stabnight, fgs. I can’t have imagined that, can I?

Nettleteaser101 · 03/12/2024 07:56

Looks like my fav Leonard might be going to the big cycle lane in the sky😪, but then again Ruth hasnt being wearing her helmet on the quad bike and we know how very dangerous they are.
Joy for some reason loves Mick so I think she would say his F C voice was good but I think Lynda is up to mischief a bit which is a bit out of character, but most of the actors have been acting that way recently.

echt · 03/12/2024 08:02

I don't want Leonard to go.
Ruth, meh.

And there, in one sentence, is why more of us give up learning Welsh

Wholemeal sponge, moist, with robust filling/topping/bits in is fine, in the same family as carrot cake. Wholemeal sponge with delicate jam and buttercream filling and a dusting of icing sugar, no.

Ruth hasnt being wearing her helmet on the quad bike and we know how very dangerous they are Fingers crossed. I can’t forgive her treatment of vowels.

Gonners · 03/12/2024 10:18

I was idly thinking last night ... if either Leonard or Ruth had an accident and ended up brain-damaged, would anyone notice?

Brefugee · 03/12/2024 11:15

they're trying to fudge the situation so we don't know who is getting potentially deded/life changing injuries from NOT WEARING A HELMET

Mick's first attempt at father Christmas rather reminded me of Death in Hogfather "HO HO HO"

Anecdote time. I'm in Germany. When i had my DCs we moved to a small village. We are not far (spitting distance at that time) from The Netherlands.

Anyway. come 5th December, when you put your boots out, there was a ring at the door, i had baby (5 months) in my arms, toddler (nearly 2) running around. And there he was, in full Bishop regalia, St Nick with his golden book. I had NO idea this happened. Nosy toddler peered around my legs right at the time St Nicks 4 (4 of em!) helpers came up. And she got a fright and slammed the door on him. And me and baby. And of course i had no keys. That was not hilarious.
And what scared her? (this is more than 20 years ago). Yes 4 half naked, blacked up (entire body) chaps in grass skirts clanking chains. Is that what Lynda is after?

FlyingFlapjack · 03/12/2024 12:02

@MereDintofPandiculation , Out of interest, why did you start?

@JoelenesParrot , it was Natasha not Olwen.

CaptainMyCaptain · 03/12/2024 12:06

I think the cinnamon stew was for Olwen and she didn't like it.

Agapornis · 03/12/2024 12:14

Lol @Brefugee that must have been a local German version of St Nicholas - the standard Dutch Sinterklaas doesn't visit homes unsolicited (shoes are left at the fire/radiator - you can pay a local Helper St Nick to visit) and there are no grass skirts! Thankfully the blacking up (face only) has mostly stopped in the last few years, it's just sooty smears now.

I don't miss much about living in the Netherlands but really miss Sinterklaas. So I'd welcome a bit of seasonal mischief in Ambridge.
