Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to hear more from Wesley the ashtray collector, or other unusual views.

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @DeanElderberry for the pithy phrase in the thread title and @CaptainMyCaptain for suggesting it should go in there. At least we've got the spooky disco out of the way for now. Plenty of wooden dialogue in the last few episodes that could go on the village bonfire next week. It's all been too dispiriting to discuss in greater depth. I'll just say that I don't hold out any great hopes that the production team will make a good job of reflecting concern in the farming community about the changes announced in the Budget to inheritance tax for farms. So often they get an expert to talk them through stuff like this but instead of ending up with a realistic storyline they pick out the bits they like the sound of and cobble them together in a totally unrealistic way. Maybe I'll be proved wrong this time. I hope so.

Over to you!

Also Bradley is going to suffer with his studying he needs to say no to Justin doing George's business

Godesstobe · 24/11/2024 17:22

The unmentionables were called daps in Wiltshire when I was at school. Probably still are.

Twenty odd years ago we moved out of London. We had originally started looking for houses in Sussex and it proved completely impossible to search for them on the internet. (We ended up moving to Kent.)

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 24/11/2024 18:24

But plimsolls has been posted in full several times upthread without being removed.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 24/11/2024 18:25

Or rather, hidden briefly as my post is at present but then presumably checked and found not to be offensive. What baffles me is what about that particular word sets off the the MN autohide.

Bruisername · 24/11/2024 18:45

Hidden very briefly - I don’t get it. There’s isn’t a speedy fingered unblocker working today surely?

Gonners · 24/11/2024 18:50

What happens if I put it in the singular and capitalise it, as in: The Plimsoll line is a reference mark located on a ship’s hull that indicates the maximum depth to which the vessel may be safely immersed when loaded with cargo.

RegimentalSturgeon · 24/11/2024 18:57

A rather niche paraphilia, perhaps?

Gonners · 24/11/2024 18:59

Hey ho. We should probably stop now, before we drive the mods mad. But it would be very interesting if someone would be kind enough to explain (pretty please).

Bankholidayhelp · 24/11/2024 19:14

Okay, what am I listening to?!!??

Bruisername · 24/11/2024 19:16

I couldn’t face listening tonight. Sounds like a good choice?

Hercisback1 · 24/11/2024 19:17

WTF was that

You took the words from my mouth!

It was quite simply very odd. I can only imagine that (a) it's scam week (apparently) so felt by editors to be appropriate/relevant and (b) the script writer had a bad Airbnb experience! Hope we aren't going to get a different scam every night this week
.

MereDintofPandiculation · 24/11/2024 19:18

You took the words from my mouth!

And mine! Pointless crap.

Gonners · 24/11/2024 19:22

It was a hilarious misunderstanding/scam combo, though I was (as ever) 100% on Team Jakob.

Ah, thanks @Bankholidayhelp - I hadn't realised it was scam week. Does it start today (in which case I have 6 more days to scam someone)?

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 24/11/2024 16:05

It's not that obsolete ! Trotters children's wear website sells them for children and adults using that name. I bought a pair in Liberty last year.

So does Amazon.

I used to work with Civil Engineers. There was widespread outrage when searches on “hard core” were automatically banned on the company’s network.

JoelenesParrot · 24/11/2024 19:30

I enjoyed it. Mainly because Kate and Yakob carrried the scene- both are good actors. The Americans sounded as if they would be better suited to the Afternoon Play. It wasn’t hilarious, but it did highlight some of the pitfalls of booking a holiday cottage online these days. So I am prepared to go with it and simply be grateful that we didn’t have to listen to any more scenes including Joelene/Mick or Leonard/and his bike…

Hercisback1 · 24/11/2024 19:31

I genuinely thought I'd pressed the wrong button on BBC sounds and had to check twice it wasn't the afternoon play.

I think I may have found the reason. A swift internet search led me to https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/4669371-yeah-the-first-time-i-have-spotted-a-fake-thread and the p--l troll is mentioned on the first page of that thread, in the tenth reply. So the troll is a known menace and Mumsnet must be determined to obliterate their posts before they upset anyone.

DeanElderberry · 24/11/2024 19:55

What a very odd scam. I don't leave my door unlocked or the key beside it which is just as well as any travellers seeking shelter would be quite appalled at the state of my housekeeping, but in the unlikely event of any getting in and wanting to stay the answer would be a very firm NO. Does Brookfield still do B&B? Do Lynda and Robert? Does Grey Gables? If not then the visitors can have the yurt.

Not sure about scam week - it might have started yesterday, but that still leaves you with 5 days ...

Snap, or a lag from pick of the week..

WhitbyBee · 24/11/2024 19:59

Words fail me
What total crap .

WombatCowgirl · 24/11/2024 20:04

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g sorry harking back a page- oh you mean the sea monster obsessive? Threads that started quite normally with concerns about water or the royal family but after a few posts they couldn't help bringing up sea serpents like some minor Dickensian aunt. It was actually quite funny, though maybe not for the poster.

Same here. What a load of crap. And why can't Chuck and whatever her name is go to Grey Gables?
