Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd have been delighted with a hand-painted squirrel tray for your 40th, as shown below, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

All I have to say about current storylines for now is that I want the George Alice crash stuff to come to a resolution, sooner rather than later, and I also want to hear very little indeed of Alistair, Denise and Paul maundering on. More of Jakob would be very welcome. His brother can come back any time too.

I now declare this thread open for business!

I found it revolting, though mainly because if I were Fallon I'd have castrated the utter pillock rather than let him ever touch me again. Surely no self-respecting woman is that desperate?

Bruisername · 29/08/2024 20:15

So it was Fallon and Harrison? Are they signposting another pregnancy 🙄

PedantScorner · 29/08/2024 20:20

@Bruisername , they are signposting that Harrison will be dedded and that Fallon will have a bun in the oven.

Bruisername · 29/08/2024 20:26

i can live with the first part of that - and will forgive Clive if he’s the deaderer

CaptainMyCaptain · 29/08/2024 20:29

That's what I thought. Deaded by Clive.

Oh, I hadn't thought of that. Harrison has calmed down a bit. He wouldn't be top of my deaddering list.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 29/08/2024 20:30

It was Fallon drooling over him, draping herself over him and waving her tail very unambiguously that was a total turn-off, not the non-sex that we didn't actually hear.

The older I get, the more I conclude that only very exceptional sex should be a spectator sport, and on radio it definitely doesn't come over as anything out of the ordinary.

Bruisername · 29/08/2024 20:30

Tbh a murder would be a bit ott and definitely turning into Albert square.

WagnersFourthSymphony · 29/08/2024 20:32

Well, it ended on heavy Dramatic Irony, with FLW. So, either Harrison will finally go off the rails, as has been signalled before, and have his head turned by fertile young cricketer whose name I forget, or he will DIE.
Hopefully, the latter.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 29/08/2024 20:33

Gosh I'm thick. I get the point of contrasting the Joy, Kate and Clive scene with something mundane, but I didn't get that it would be a deading and a pothumous bun in the oven.

Gonners · 29/08/2024 20:39

I've always hoped that, at the autopsy, Harrison would be found to have bored himself to death.

PedantScorner · 29/08/2024 20:43

Fallon's vegan tea room will never materialise as she is not First Family and must be kept in her place.

Harrison will be trampled by a boar when Clive holds Neil hostage at Berrow.

Neil will have a life-threatening injury.

RegimentalSturgeon · 29/08/2024 20:46

a deading and a pothumous bun in the oven.

Well, if he’s dead, he can’t whine and bitch about her terminating, so not really a problem. Although if the dozy article hasn’t sorted out her contraception by now, she deserves a good hard slap.
(Another listener who was v disappointed she let him anywhere near her.)

She had a coil before, which should have been perfectly adequate given she's not worried about STDs. She said tonight that the reason they hadn't had sex between the miscarriage and now was that she was scared of another accidental pregnancy (but isn't scared anymore). That indicates to me that she has contraception but was just worried about another failure, rather than that she's not bothered and willing to take her chances having unprotected sex.

PedantScorner · 29/08/2024 21:55

But why make it so clear that they had DTD if not to signpost that something is going to happen?

echt · 29/08/2024 21:55

Two things that struck me about the episode:

Kate's "I know!" when talking excitedly to Joy sounded exactly like the Liz Truss of Dead Ringers. Also she was splendidly icy, her usually honking nasal tome completely gone as she put Cloyve right down.

Harrison's proposal to have a break "Friday to Monday" was very Downton Abbey.

PedantScorner · 29/08/2024 21:57

I thought Dead Ringers' Liz Truss too! "I know!"

Why am I starting to think about the next thread's title?

Boared to death? Vegan work it out?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/08/2024 22:07

Because there are only 157 posts left on this thread. Racing through it!

Kate used to irritate me immensely but she’s really grown on me recently. And good for Joy! I can half imagine her chasing Cloyve (whose true colours show remarkably quickly, he can shove his “reformed man” schtick right up his asana) out of the shop with a besom.

Wouldn't it be a bit unfortunate to have a second contraceptive failure so soon after the first?

PedantScorner · 29/08/2024 21:55

I suspect their reconciliation is so that it won’t seem unrealistic that Fallon stands by him/up for him when he tries to throttle George on finding out who was really responsible for the demise of his baybeh.

Scarydinosaurs · 29/08/2024 22:19

I think it was just a closure on the storyline of their difficult period. Now H and F will be left alone for a bit.

Loved Kate and Joy! I think this will prompt Clive to reveal George’s secret out of spite.

PedantScorner · 29/08/2024 22:21

Galloping forth?

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle , was the 1st a failure? I thought the coil meant the foetus was aborted.

@BrightYellowDaffodil , the dedder of the behbeh was Fallon because she had the IUD fitted.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 29/08/2024 22:28

@PedantScorner Well I know that and you know that, but Harrison has something of a blind spot on the issue…

Madcats · 29/08/2024 22:52

A lot of ambiguous posts this evening (so it was either brilliant or dire).

Was there some sort of "pampas grass in the front garden and throw your car keys into the bowl" thing going on in tonight's episode?

Is it safe for me to listen tomorrow lunchtime over lunch (school hols)?
